Jesus words....

matthew 4:17 "from that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

luke 13:2-9" "Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But UNLESS YOU REPENT YOU TOO WILL ALL PERISH.. Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you Repent you too will all perish.”

Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’
“ ‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’ ” this parable regards repentance onviously...( see john ch 15)
okay so its clear that Jesus made clear, repentance in required. but what about paul?

colossians 3:5-10 " Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator"

" put to death these actions, you used to live like this, but now YOU MUST RID YOURSELVES of all these things"

Romans 8:12-13 "Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live." (again paul makes it a matter of life and death, just like Jesus. again ?) if you live according to the flesh you will die)

ephesians 5:3-7 "but among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them."

again failure to repent of sin disqualifies people from the kingdom."Let no one deceive you with empty words, you can be certain of this : no immoral impure or greedy person has any inheritance in Gods kingdom"

galatians 5:19-21 " the acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God." ( again the acts of the flesh disqualify the inheritance)

Paul is not unclear about repentance from sin, Just Like the gospel teaches. repentance is required just like the foundation of a house. the writers of hebrews we see that repentance from acts of death ( sin) is elementary and basic teaching.hebrews 6:1 "Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God,"

if anyone is teaching you that grace nullifies your behavior obligation to God, they are leading you astray. if anyone claims repentance is a bad thing, or a "work of the flesh" they are telling you the opposite of the truth. if anyone is preaching something other than the principles and teachoings of Jesus Christ, they are not teaching you the gospel. you will see Jesus principles in all of the new testament. Just like Jesus said " unless you repent you too will all persish" paul said " if you live according to the sinful nature you will die" same principle, different words. all of the gospel is reflected this way in the nt writers. the principles of Jesus Christ are trustworthy and eternal, the gospel. Listen to Him. repentance is not a bad thing, it is not oppressive, it is not just thinking different, it means what it meant always....stop sin from controlling your life, you once had no choice, but no we have no excuse because of Jesus and His " finished work"

new age thinking, new ideas about what "God really said" ect just deception trying to blind us to the truth, but we Know Jesus the Truth. Don't be deceived by people who themselves have accepted a lie, Trust Jesus.

All glory, praise, honor, power and majesty belongs to God, and to His Son who sits at His right Hand He is worthy.

If you are trusting in your repentance to save you, you have not yet repented.

if, and that's a big if, anyone tells you that anyone here practices sinning and encourages others to do so, you let us know and we will go after them and make life very difficult for them

in the meantime, why don't you tell us how you practice all of the above yourself

just let us know how you have put yourself to death and where you are buried

Paul actually does talk about how it goes down, but I would like to hear it in your own words, cause, you know, it is so easy to copy/paste scripture

I figure if someone is going to be telling us all how to get it together, they should be real fine with letting us know how they actually did it themselves

There is only one unforgivable sin. Jesus said so! ALL others have been paid for.

"Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me
from this hour'? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour."
*He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours
but also for the sins of the whole world.

Repentance is NOT telling God how crappy you are or how sorry you are-

true repentance is agreeing with Him that your ways are wrong, His way is right

yielding yourself by renewing your mind with scripture and allowing Holy Spirit to guide

He will conform you to the image of Christ not self effort

Repentance means to change your mind/way of thinking because to all you do, you have to agree in your mind first. Turn away from the bad old and change your way of life and mind and have a mind of Christ :)

well of course it requires self effort. "yielding yourself" is a choice. it does indeed require effort and a desire to be a vessel He can use.

thinking about the title of the op here...repentance scares the deceiver

I don't think it does scare him at all in the way many approach 'repentance'

constant repentance with feeling bad about yourself creates a merry go round of I sinned, I repent, now I will behave

it's a cycle that needs to be broken, as Psalm 6819 says, changing our minds to agree with what God states, through renewing our minds in the Word

self effort creates failure and beating on yourself

that is not what scripture has in mind when it tells us we are more than conquerors

31What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.

34Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[SUP]j[/SUP]

37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[SUP]k[/SUP] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

the entire chapter of Romans 8 is an even better read to agree with

there is a very fine line between yielding and self effort

One gives glory to God- the other gives glory to self.

I understand, I think, what you are saying.
All the glory is His for sure.
I am just saying, as believers, we make choices.
We can study, pray, memorize Scripture, meditate on Scripture, make a practice of helping others. All these things require discipline and self effort.
Or we can just go to the ball game, catch a few hours of tv and facebook and just not worry about it. It is a choice.

that always makes for a beautiful poster.
but who really does that these days?
that kind of love would surely be remarkable.
When you are worshiping God, does not everything within you rejoice at the knowledge of His unending love for you and all He has done to accomplish His will and bring you into His Kingdom? Do you not respond with awe and joy at His creation, and sorrow too, to know how you ran and resisted and rebelled in defiance at what you thought were merely attempts to chain you against your will? Do you worship in Spirit and in Truth? That is what He desires :)

We love because He first loved us and yes, it is remarkable :D

REV. 21:7-8.

He that 'over-cometh' shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers,
and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone:
which is the second death.

I guess I am looking at the daily life.
If a person loves God with "all that is in them", I think it would make a remarkable person. Maybe like the apostle Paul, who suffered shipwrecks, hunger, being stoned, beaten with whips, pretty much abandoned every worldy possession... etc,
Does that make sense?
Lots of people can say they love God, and then go hang out at the mall, or go fishing, etc.

LUKE 17:3-4.
Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him,
And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying,
I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

REV. 3:19. - As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent

Yes it does make sense :) Paul was certainly a remarkable ambassador for Christ, I would never deny that. In the early days of the Christian faith, such a one as he was likely required, because there was much confusion and contention (not that those things do not exist today, but the Truth has been clearly laid out for us now, much in part to Paul's efforts on our behalf). He was as a midwife helping to transition the Jewish converts from the old to the new, for Jesus was/is the fulfillment of all that had been hitherto given to them, and yet many could not or would not see it. It is true my life pales in comparison to his. If we had a few more Pauls in this day and age I wonder what could be accomplished, while I sit on my couch in my living room tapping on a keyboard. :p

To repent of our sins means we do not want to do those things anymore. If we stole in the world, when we live for God we do not want to steal anymore.

That is what God does not like concerning the world is their sins, breaking moral laws, and laws of love, that is why He gave us His human body to wash away our sins, for our sins would remain with us that God does not like if He had not gave us His human body to wash away our sins.

We confess Christ as Lord and Savior, and we repent of our sins, which means we do not want to act like the world anymore, then we are forgiven, for can we tell God,I confess Christ as Lord and Savior, but Lord I want to keep stealing for I rather enjoy it,and who does not like a little romp in the sack with a fine babe, and a little drugs every now and then never hurt anybody, and expect to be forgiven, for how you be forgiven for something that you will not stop doing, for then it looks like you are not wanting forgiveness if you keep doing it,and you cannot get forgiveness if you hold unto it,knowing you will do it later.

If a husband cheats on his wife,if he wants to keep a relationship with his wife says, honey can you forgive me,for I will not do it again, for if he says, honey I am sorry for cheating on you,can you forgive me,but I will go get me some more of that good stuff tomorrow, and expect to be forgiven, and keep his relationship with his wife, soon to be his ex-wive.

We have to repent of our sins when we are initially saved, and after we are saved if we sin,for we must not want to do the act anymore, and mean it,for if we steal, and ask for forgiveness, but know we will steal again with the fellows tomorrow night,we did not give it up,so how can we be forgiven, and how can we keep our relationship with God,like how can the man keep his relationship with his wife if he tells her he will not give up cheating, and God knows what we are thinking.

God hates sin so much that it is nasty, and filthy,to Him,which if a man worked in the sewer for a living, and put in a 12 hour day,all stinky, and sweaty, and dirty, and came home and started rubbing on his wife,do you think she would be like,it does not matter that you are that way honey,I still love you,let us make love to the wee hours of the night, she will not do that but she will say, back up off me chump, and get cleaned up before you approach me in that manner, and attitude.

God hates sin so much that we cannot approach God,and love Him,with the stench of sin,all stinky, and sweaty, and dirty, praising God,and saying I love you,for God will say you clean yourself up,and do not approach Me in that manner, and attitude.

We confess Christ as Lord and Savior, but that does not exclude us from having to repent of our sins, not wanting to do those sins anymore, and after we are saved we still have to repent, not wanting to do it anymore, before we can be forgiven, for we cannot be forgiven if we still want to do it,which repenting of our sin means we do not want to do it anymore.

I know some people think after you are saved repenting of your sins does not save you, because they say it is all Christ, with no responsibility on the believer, but they take it too far,for there is a responsibility on the part of the believer, for if we sin after we are saved, the Bible says it can be forgiven, but if we do not vow to give it up,but hold unto it,how can it be forgiven, but if you say you do not want to do it anymore, then you repented, but if you say you do not have to repent, that means you do not have to give it up,but can keep doing it,and do they really think they are right with God when they intentionally will not give it up.

If they say we do not have to repent after we are saved, they are saying we do not have to give up sin,for to repent means you do not want to sin anymore, which what kind of attitude is that thinking they are right with God,that they will not give up sin but be right with God,and if they say you must not want sin anymore, then that is repenting which they say you do not have to do.

The Bible says that after we are saved, and are led of the Spirit,we have the capacity to sin if we desire, but if we sin it can be forgiven,so it is obvious that we still have a choice to be led of the Spirit or not, then if we do sin repenting of that sin is an act that goes towards our salvation, for is we do not repent of it,we cannot be forgiven, which the Bible says is we sin willfully, after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there is no more sacrifice for that sin,if it is not repented of.

There is a responsibility on the believer after they are saved, and led of the Spirit, for they still have a choice to be led of the Spirit or not,and if they did not, then they would never have the capacity to sin again, and they do not realize that there is more of a responsibility on the New Testament believer, than on the Old Testament believer, all the while taking away the responsibility, which the Bible says if a believer knows to do right, but does not do it,will have worse punishment than the Old Testament believers, which Jesus said those that did not know the will of their Lord, but did wrong, will be beat with few stripes, but those that knew the will of the Lord, but did not do it,shall be beat with many stripes, and if a person has come to to the truth,by escaping the sin of the world, and then goes back to it,it would of had been better if they had never known the truth at all, than to turn from the holy commandments delivered to them.

We have to abstain from sin when we are saved, being led by the Spirit, and if we sin we have to repent, not wanting to do it again,or we will not be forgiven,so then us repenting of our sin goes towards our salvation, for if we do not do it we cannot be forgiven.
