If so, why? Even though they may receive the former rain, will they be denied the latter rain?

Because they have rejected the Love of the truth... If people reject the Atonement of the LORD Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins whats the point in them having any other spiritual awareness

Are some people Spiritually blind? Absolutely "Yes." But, is it God's doing? I doubt it. It seems to usually be a product of either pride or men's traditions.

Could you describe, in some detail, what you think "the former rain" and "the latter rain" are? And I don't mean just quoting verses with no explanation of your understanding of that/those verses.

Romans 11:8 According as it is written (Isaiah 29:10), God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear; unto this day.

Acts 28:25-27
25 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoAken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,
26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

2 Corinthians 4:3-4

"And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God."

Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in.
Rom 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
Rom 11:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
Rom 11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.
Rom 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
Rom 11:31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
Rom 11:32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
Rom 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

hmmm seems to be that scriptures says so....

God's desire is that all would be justified and live by faith -

Romans 1:

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

First step in spiritual blindness – knowing God yet not glorifying Him as God and becoming unthankful. That leads to vain (empty) imaginations which leads to the heart becoming "darkened". Not completely blind … just "darkened" -

Romans 1:

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Because the heart is darkened, people profess they are wise but in reality are fools. Then they change the glory of God into an image and God then gives them up to uncleanness. God can no longer hold and protect those who turn from Him -

Romans 1:

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Because they are given up to uncleanness, they change the truth of God into a lie, they worship and serve the creation more than the creator. God then gives them up to vile affections -

Romans 1:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

Because of their vile affections, they burn in their lusts and receive the adequate compensation of their error and do not like to retain (hold) God in their minds. God then gives them over to a reprobate mind -

Romans 1:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Those that have a reprobate mind are filled with all of the characteristics shown in vss 29-32. And please note vs 32 – these people not only do these things, they have pleasure in taking other with them -

Romans 1:

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Thank God, we have a Savior Who is able to save to the uttermost, and Who opens eyes, turning them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith.

Exactly. God didn't do it.

I believe the gospel is open to everyone; "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you" (Matthew 7:7). But just as God hardened the Pharaoh's heart after he had resisted, I believe God withholds enlightenment to some people; "When they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened... And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind" (Romans 1:21&28). I don't believe God indiscriminately blinds a person, I believe some are blind because they will not see or accept the Truth, whereby God withdraws.. jmo

Matthew 13 (KJV)

The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.

2
And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

3
And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying,
Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

4
And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

5
Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up,
because they had no deepness of earth:

6
And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

7
And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:

8
But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold,
some thirtyfold.

9
Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

10
And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

11
He answered and said unto them,
Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

12
For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

13
Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

14
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

15
For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

16
But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

17
For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

18
Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19
When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

20
But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

21
Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

22
He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

23
But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

***
36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

37
He answered and said unto them,
He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;

38
The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

39
The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

40
As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

41
The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

42
And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

43
Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Yep. Some people say, "I don't want to know anything about you!"

And, God says, "Fine, I won't bother to tell you."

The Lord doesn't play favorites and his salvation is for all who will follow him. Still, his ways are unknown to us, and we can get so deeply embedded in our sin that the Lord might need to use unusual methods to draw us out.

"But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)

Some other supporting verses...

"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Corinthians 2:14)

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." (1 Corinthians 1:18)

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." (John 14:16-17)

Tell me if there is so much that God supposedly says in that book that you do not believe.... how is it that you selectively choose to emphatically believe certain specific other things in it?

Shouldn't you either believe the book, or completely discount it, thereby eliminating the need you seem to have to argue about parts of it, and to try to disprove it as being wrong?

It's a bit like saying: "I am positive there is no God; that is why I hate Him so much."

I grew up in a Christian home, and left Christianity and identified as an atheist for a few years. What led me away was myself. What led me away was my indifference, and that I found the world to be more fascinating at the time. But the world and all of its promises, usually falls short. I had an experience of faith last year, and Jesus revealed Himself to me. God doesn't cause us to leave, but He lets us leave. That is how I know God is the truest love of all, because He lets us leave, and still loves us. He loved me, even in my indifference to Him. It is hard to explain this to someone who doesn't believe, because I had stopped believing and nothing anyone could have said then, would have made me change my mind. But, if you leave your mind and heart open, He will reveal Himself to anyone. And you'll look back and wonder why you ever didn't believe.

Faith is funny like that. lol ^_^

Instead of that position,take a helicopter ride to a new perspective.

See all the dead puppies and babies that SIN KILLED, and get mad at selfish,self serving, Godless mankind's horrible payday.

The terribleness of sin is the correct perspective.
