The function of the “resurrection” is to join a spirit being with a new indestructible physical body, similar (maybe exactly) to man’s body prior to sinning. It’s also true that believers and unbelievers will both receive a resurrected body (John 5:28, 29), but not both will have “eternal life” (John 10:27, 28) in their new bodies, which is the intention of “the second death.” If eternal life means an eternal relationship with God, then the absence of an eternal relationship with God means eternal death.

So, I believe a question that may be adequate in addressing eternal life is, “when does a believer receive eternal life”? My understanding is that it is possessed at the time of rebirth, and if so, the phrase “loose eternal life” is not only an oxymoron (you can’t lose eternal life since it means life that is forever) but Scripture has no usages of such language or concept.

May God guide all who reply to this post to His truths concerning it, and God Be Blessed!

The sole condition on our part is receiving salvation--"through faith" (Eph 2:8), then manifesting the faith--"by works" (Jam 2:24), which needs much clarification. "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified." The Greek for "justify" is 'dikaioō' and basically has two meanings: to render one righteous, which only God can do (Rom 8:33; Gal 2:17); to show (manifest or display) one is righteous, which is definition II at the below link. Effecting righteousness is always attributed to God and Christ. Showing righteousness is through the believer.

We are in Christ and Jesus said that He is the Life - we have Him - He is our life now and we are sealed with the Holy Spirit when we believed in Christ. Eph.1:13

Colossians 3:3 (NASB)
[SUP]3 [/SUP] For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

John 5:24 - Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

All those who will have eternal life with God have it reserved for them at the moment they believe Jesus and trust in the Atonement He secured for them on the cross.. When they get transformed into that eternal incorruptible perfect body they they are simply taking possession of the gift that has been reserved for them..

God because of His foreknowledge of our lives can reserve that gift even before we ever lived in our short human lives.

It's not "reserved' for us, it is received by us at the moment we receive Christ. In Christ we HAVE eternal life. Those new bodies have nothing to do with our receiving eternal life. They are simply bodies designed to continue on living in eternity the eternal life we have already received.

We do not have these eternal bodies now.. We get them on the day of the resurrection / Day of the LORD.. Yes they are secured for us as gifts in waiting.. Our current bodies will soon rot in the earth and return to dust..

The Bible shows you 1 example of what resurrection & eternal Life looks like.
Study out Jesus after he rose again and before his ascension on the mount and you will no everything about our own resurrection and glorified bodies.

Hi again FNC, and thank you for ringing in your comment! Of course my intention concerning the OP is to demonstrate being saved includes presently possessing eternal life, which means it's permanent, hence the word "eternal," i.e "have passed from death unto life" (John 5:24; 1 John 3:14) as others have also indicated this passage.

Blessings!

Hi Adstar - Thanks for your reply! I agree that "reserve" (1 Pe 1:4) represents the actual occurrence of the resurrection concerning our new bodies, and that we will also be "like Him" (1 John 3:2) concerning the sinless state, but we are presently "risen with Him" (Col 2:12, synonymous with eternal life) in our spirit, which answers to "have passed from death unto life" (Jhn 5:24; 1 Jhn 3:14).

Blessings!

Hi E - Appreciate your input--of which I strongly agree, as it concurs with, "Who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body" (Phl 3:21).

God bless!

Upon Glorification, which is the end result of our Sanctification Process and race of faith, we shall receive our glorified, spiritual bodies :)
Praise God

I agree. This concerns our new body, but we in our spirit presently have eternal life "abiding in us."

Thanks NRD for your input!

God bless!

I actually chuckled out loud, that is a good once-saved always-saved argument.

Indeed, and it's important that we do not quench the Spirit in our Sanctification Process/race of faith. Run so as to win the prize (Glorfication), receiving at the end of our faith the salvation of our souls

1 Peter 1:6-9 NKJV
6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen[a] you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.

Yes. In Romans 8:30, we read - Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. Paul uses the past tense for a future event to stress it's certainty.

I believe if one allows this to remain in their life, God is not in him, because God causes us to avoid this (Phl 2:13).
