I recently stumbled upon a Facebook page who's purpose is to make fun of anyone who buys expensive Bibles. They post photos of raggedy, paperback, cheaply made Bibles and brag about how little they cost. I guess they feel that this is a more important subject than to preach the gospel to the unsaved.

I understand how there are those who make an idol out of their super expensive Bibles, but I don't see why someone would take the time to create a FB page saying "if you spend more than $20 for a Bible you're an idol maker".

If anyone wants a very high quality Bible for a reasonable price, check out Local Church Bible Publishers. Another good publisher is Bearing Precious Seed. One caveat - they only sell KJV.

Good grief.... a good, leather bound Bible can last a lifetime, if reasonable care is taken. A paperback? Probably 2 or 3 years at most.

And, I've seen people brag about their old raggedy paperback Bible as if to say.. "look at how righteous I am... I've worn out my Bible"...

so who REALLY has the prideful attitude issue?

Sounds like they are making a idol out of a raggedy paper back low cost bible. A idol can be low cost or high cost as you mentioned pride comes into play for sure.

I wouldn't spend more than $20 on a Bible ONLY because I am a cheap SOB. I found a New In Box Bible that is exactly like the one I used to read as a kid (the one my Mom used to hide at the bottom of the closet out of sight), and as much as I'd love to own it, I am too cheap to pony up the $60 to buy it.

I have bought several expensive Bibles over the years, and I don't mind saying so. I plan to buy more if I see one I like.
The one I have most of my hand-written notes in, however, is a $40 ESV.

When i buy a Bible, i want it to last for years. Also a lot of people use the Bible as a means of keeping important information in it about their family.

I personally use biblehub to read scripture. While I don't judge those who pay for expensive bibles, the quality of the book is not what matters. Whether or not the person received Gods message is what matters.

one interesting side note:
God commanded that Kings write their own copy of Torah, and study it every day.

Sounds like someone found a away to create their own personal sign and wonder to show others how humble he thinks he might be.

we have a local 'Christian Store' that always has a sign out front for sale items, =
in the front of the store are the 'new Bibles' and at the back are the older editions of
just about every kind... the prices in the back are very reasonable, but something I have
seen about the ones in the front are often 'new-age' Bibles, those that want to eliminate
the name of Jesus and make everything sound like a neutral assembly without Jesus as
Lord and King...

If I were plugging those publishers, don't you think I'd attach a link directly to their store pages?
I mentioned they only sell KJV so if anyone wanted to search them out and they don't like the KJV they wouldn't waste their time. The FB page I mentioned in my post was a suggestion that popped up on FB. Why are you so dang suspicious? I offer some information (that folks can use or ignore) and you start up with accusations? I really don't understand that mindset, especially in a Christian forum.

For those whose read their Bibles daily, highlight passages, write notes in the margin and take it with them just about everywhere they go - quality is an important consideration.

To me it is matters not how much you spend On your bible but rather how time much you spend IN your bible.

That's interesting where in the scriptures do you find that ?

When you say Torah what does that include? Some Jews say it contains the written commandments as well as oral commandments both equally authoritative

Today we have the whole book of the law, the Bible containing 66 books that we are to study. So what was the point, was it that kings studied the scriptures?
