When God breathed into man the breath of life, man became a living soul,
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7 [KJV])
And this became the natural body man was sown into, a body formed of dust of the ground, housing the breath of life and his living soul - body, soul, and breath,
it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. (1 Corinthians 15:44 [NIV])
This breath of life that gives life to this natural body is the spirit of life, as there is no distinction between "spirit" and "breath" in the Hebrew and Greek languages, both words mean "wind, breath". This same spirit of life that gives life to the natural body of man is also the same spirit of life given to the natural bodies of animals,
And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two by two of all flesh in which is the spirit of life. (Genesis 7:15 [JB2000])
Now, when this natural body dies, the breath of life given to man returns to God who gave it,
and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the life's breath returns to God who gave it. (Ecclesiastes 12:7 [NETBIBLE])
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. (Ecclesiastes 12:7 [KJV])
And the soul, which was made into a "living soul" by the breath of life, then becomes a "dead soul" when the breath of life departs, and goes to sleep in Sheol, as the soul is what houses the consciousness of this natural body, hence why it becomes awake and living when the spirit of life is given, and becomes asleep and dead when the spirit of life is taken away,
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going. (Ecclesiastes 9:10 [ESV])
For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. (Psalm 16:10 [ESV])
Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. (1 Thessalonians 4:13 [NIV])
And as such, although this body is sown as a natural body, it will then be raised as a spiritual body,
It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual. So also it has been written: "The first man Adam became into a living soul; the last Adam into a life-giving spirit." (1 Corinthians 15:44-45 [BLB])
And this spiritual body was the new body Jesus Christ was resurrected into,
[18] For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that he should lead us forward to God, having put to death indeed the flesh, but being restored to life to the spirit; [19] in which also having gone he proclaimed to the spirits in prison, (I Peter 3:18-19 [ABP])
As this natural body of flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God,
I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. (1 Corinthians 15:50 [NIV])
And as such, as opposed to being sown into a natural body having life from breath, he was raised into a spirit body having life in himself,
[25] Amen, amen, I say to you, that there comes an hour, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the son of God, and the ones hearing shall live. [26] For as the father has life in himself, so he gave also to the son to have life in himself;
(John 5:25-26 [ABP])
And this same spiritual body he was resurrected into is the same spiritual body that angels have,
In speaking of the angels he says, "He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire." (Hebrews 1:7 [NIV])
Now about the angels He says: "He makes His angels winds, His servants flames of fire." (Hebrews 1:7 [BSB])
Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:14 [NIV])
When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. (Mark 12:25 [NIV])
Which is also a body of power,
it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; (1 Corinthians 15:43 [NIV])
Which is readily able to take invisible form of spirit,
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. (Luke 24:31 [NIV])
Then the angel of the LORD touched the meat and the unleavened bread with the tip of the staff that was in his hand. Fire flared from the rock, consuming the meat and the bread. And the angel of the LORD disappeared. (Judges 6:21 [NIV])
And just as certain spirits are able to, such as angels of God, it can also readily take on the form of flesh and bones that can also eat and drink,
The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. He said, "If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by. Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree. Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way--now that you have come to your servant." "Very well," they answered, "do as you say." (Genesis 18:2-5 [NIV])
See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” (Luke 24:39 [ESV])
And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?" (Luke 24:41 [NIV])
And as such, just as Jesus Christ was resurrected as a life-giving spirit, so will all those that are his be resurrected as life-giving spirits at his second coming, and be gathered by angels to meet the Lord in the air,
And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man. (1 Corinthians 15:49 [NIV])
Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years. (Revelation 20:6 [NIV])
in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. (1 Corinthians 15:52 [NIV])
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 [NIV])
And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. (Matthew 24:31 [NIV])

Hello pappq,

And the soul, which was made into a "living soul" by the breath of life, then becomes a "dead soul" when the breath of life departs, and goes to sleep in Sheol, as the soul is what houses the consciousness of this natural body, hence why it becomes awake and living when the spirit of life is given, and becomes asleep and dead when the spirit of life is taken away,

"When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been."

Those souls above will have been killed during the seal judgments and they seem to be pretty conscious and aware to me. Also, scripture already tells us that after the death of the body, the spirit/soul departs to be in the presence of the Lord where it is conscious and aware. What is being referred to as being "asleep" is the body, not the soul/spirit. The event of the rich man and Lazarus, as well as Moses and Elijah meeting with Jesus and Jesus promise to the man crucified next to him that he would be in paradise with him that very day. There is no such thing as soul-sleep.

Hello pappq,

"When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been."

Do you not know that the elect will be given white robes to wear?

Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. (Revelation 3:4 [NIV])
And that the elect will enter into a rest,

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. (Hebrews 4:9-10 [NIV])
Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them." (Revelation 14:13 [NIV])
And that this Sabbath rest in which God rested for one day on the seventh day corresponds to seventh thousand years of this earth?

Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years. (Revelation 20:6 [NIV])
And that all will not be finally judged and the elect will not be fully avenged among the dead until the final great white throne judgment after the thousand year rest?

(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. (Revelation 20:5 [NIV])
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. (Revleation 20:12-13 [NIV])
Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15 [NIV])
So why should it come as a surprise that those slain among the prophets of old would not be given white robes and told to rest longer for a thousand years until in which time the fullness of the slain among those who died for Jesus would have also been fulfilled, and then they will be fully avenged?

until would be fulfilled also the fellow servants of them, and the brothers of them, those being about to be killed as also [had been] they (Revelation 6:11 [INTERLINEAR])
The scriptures state that the soul departs to Sheol at death, hence,

For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. (Psalm 16:10 [ESV])
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going. (Ecclesiastes 9:10 [ESV])
The transfiguration of Moses and Elijah was a vision,

And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.” (Matthew 17:9 [ESV])
The passage of the rich man and Lazarus is clearly a parable, as Hades itself is not a place of fire, but is rather, destroyed by the lake of fire,

Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. (Revelation 20:14 [NIV])
In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. (Luke 16:23 [NIV])
And we know whoever is thrown into this lake of fire dies,

"And they will go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind." (Isaiah 66:24 [NIV])
So already we know this passage is a parable, and not to mention it is in a series of parables that precede it, and commences with in the style of many other parables, "There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen".

The words ruach and nephesh have many varied meanings through Scripture. You cannot just equate each mention as you have done.

Adam alone had 'the breath of life' breathed into him directly by God. That is how he became the image of God (what we would call a spiritual being). The animals did not have the same breath of life breathed into them by God. They are said to have the breath of life generally because they were breathing creatures.

The Ruach in the animals was not the same as the Ruach in man (e,g Num 27.18).,

These were all the saints who had been martyred from the death of Christ to the time of the event. They were 'under the altar' because the enjoyed the shed blood of Christ. At the same time they enjoyed the white robes of Heaven,,

The ruach in men is the same ruach in animals, yet the mind of animals is different than the mind of men,

Let his mind be changed from that of a man and let him be given the mind of an animal, till seven times pass by for him. (Daniel 4:16 [NIV])
