George Washinghton:"You Do Well To Wish To Learn Above All The Religion Of J. Christ.
Why are some in the media and elsewhere trying to paint most of the Founding American fathers as non-Christians? After all about half of them were Christian ministers.
The first US President, George Washington wrote to native Indians: "It is well that you wish to learn our arts and our ways of life and above all the religion of Jesus Christ. Congress will do everything they can to assist you in this wise intention." [(1)George Washington's Speech To the Delaware Indian Chiefs,May 12 1779, John C. Fitzpatrick, editor,The Writings of George Washington,p55,Vol.15,(Washington USGovernment PrintingOFFice,1932)]- ChristianAnswers.net
Where are the bumper stickers?
It is clear that President Washington insisted that it was the duty of the US Congress to help, greatly, people living in America to be Christians(if they chose too) and ChristianAnswers.net says Washington also meant Christ would be taught in schools.
President Washington also said:"To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian."
[(2)The Writings of Washington,pp.342-343,Jared Sparks
Jared Sparks(fmr. president of Harvard U.) also noted that Robert Lewis, the nephew and private secretary of Washington, said: "he witnessed his(Washington's) private devotions in his library, both morning and evening; that in those occasions he had seen him in kneeling posture with a Bible open before him, and he believed such to be his daily practices."
Jared Sparks also wrote that Washington's adopted daughter, Nelly Curtis-Lewis, wrote a letter to Sparks about Washington's faith. She testified:"His life ...proves he was a Christian." And "No one in church attended the services with more reverential respect."
Here are some other founding fathers who were deeply Christian: Alexander Hamilton, Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, Roger Sherman, James Madison, Benjamin Rush, John Hancock, Richard Stockton, John Witherspoon, Noah Webster, John Marshall, Francis Hopkinson, Charles Carroll, George Mason, Thomas McKean and on it goes...
Please remember the real founding mothers and fathers were the Christian pilgrims!
