I haven't heard many people discuss this. Jesus saying that you will not see the kingdom unless born of water and spirit makes it an important topic

Born of water is when you were born into this world as a baby.

Born of Spirit is when we received the Holy Spirit, when we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Now that you are saved, you should ask the Lord to baptize you with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4).

While it is certainly true the Holy Spirit came into your heart and life the moment of your Salvation, still, He now wishes to endure you with power from on high. Consequently, Jesus told all of His followers immediately before His Ascension, that they should "wait for the Promise of the Father" (Acts 1:4). He was speaking of being "Baptized with the Holy Spirit" (Acts 1:5).

You must understand that there is a great difference in being "Born of the Spirit" than being "Baptized with the Spirit." They are two different works altogether.

To be "Born of the Spirit" is that which took place at your conversion, as the Holy Spirit brought you to Christ and performed the work of regeneration within your heart and life. To be "Baptized with the Spirit" is in order that you may have Power with God (Acts 1:8). Every Believer should ask the LORD to fill them with the Holy Spirit, and expect to receive (Luke 11:13).

I have difficulty with the Baptism of The Holy Spirit. It's discussed often, but it makes no sense to me whatsoever. Is it something tangible a person feels, or is it another thing a person takes on faith as having happened? I think a big part of my difficulty with all this spiritualism is I have nothing tangible I can touch or feel or see. It's all just faith. I think I keep expecting "something" to happen and so far, bupkis.

"Water" is a symbolic word for "spirit." Getting to know the Lord means getting acquainted with his spirit.

Jesus' reference to birth reminds us that just as we can not choose to be born one cannot choose to be one who is born by spirit or born again.

Those chosen to be born again are chosen by God to rule in heaven - the "little flock" given a kingdom while the majority of faithful ones "other sheep" will live on earth under this kingdom as God originally purposed.

I don't agree with this. I'm guessing you believe in election? I don't want to get off topic here so maybe we can start a thread on election and predestination.

The Bible teaches that those born again are chosen by God.

Nope, just like threads to stay on topic. Makes things easier to respond to if they stay on topic. Some people like to come on forums because they have an agenda and no matter what the topic is, they will turn it into their agenda. Not saying you are doing this, just letting you know :)

Here is what I believe on the matter. Since being in spirit requires communication from Father to the Holy Spirit to you and vice versa, a baby would have no use for it until it reaches the age of self-awareness. I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, I'm saying that it's not likely to happen without intervention.

The just shall live by faith..... in every part of life. Hebrews 11:6 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP]And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Read all of ch. 11.
