Hello! I am a young lady in my mid 20's and I have had this pressing question on my heart, and that is how does one discovers God's purpose for their life?

When I read the story of Jesus, He knew exactly what He was coming to Earth for, and that was to save the world from their sins. Is it possible to have the same revelation that Christ had?

Our purpose in life is to serve God in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life: in particular as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ called Christians it is our duty to daily deny our own will, and repent and own our sins daily, and submit to and rely upon the Word of God daily all the day long in all manner of life and godliness.
(Luke 1:74-75)
(Matthew 16:24)
(2 Peter 1:3)

Hi nhyria7, It's a wonderful question and one that the true seeker asks I believe. God is so good in so many many ways. He knew we would ask these questions and left us the Bible so we could find out the truth for ourselves. "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God" Romans 10:17

God has preserved the Bible after years of the devil and people trying to destroy it and bury it. For years there was illiteracy so that people couldn't read the Bible themselves and there were very few Bibles around except those that the big churches had.

People had to depend on greedy religious people to get the truth and most often they didn't get the truth and were instead bound by man-made religion so they were controlled by fear of what those man made religions said about God that was not true. Saying people had to work hard to get good enough for God to accept them.

Many believers in Christ who tried to get the truth of the Gospel out to the people were killed for their faith and for doing what they were called to do to tell the world about Jesus and His love and salvation found clearly in the Bible for anyone to see. That salvation is free because Jesus paid 100% for our acceptance before a Holy God. Despite
the opposition to getting the truth out, men and woman of God just kept coming and coming along to make sure the Bible got out to the people. Men like Martin Luther were instrumental in this.

Then the printing of the Bible happened and the history of how God used men and woman to put the Bible in different languages. It's amazing to read about the long process over the years of how the Bible got to the people. Even today the Bible is still being translated and printed in different languages. Also the Bible (the Word of God) is preached over the air waves via satellite with tv, internet, books, tapes, cds., dvds. Christians are always being used of God to get the Gospel out not only for salvation but for believers to grow in the knowledge of the truth.

So we have the Bible today and the main message (the Good News) the Gospel., is Jesus Christ and the LOVE of God in sending His Son into the world to save sinners. John 3:16-17
[SUP]16 [/SUP]For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten ([SUP][a][/SUP]unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him.

After a person accepts Jesus Christ as their personal Savior then the Holy Spirit comes in and is always with them to teach and guide and comfort. Jesus promised to send us the Comfortor John 7:38-39
[SUP]38 [/SUP]He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water.
[SUP]39 [/SUP]But He was speaking here of the Spirit, Whom those who believed (trusted, had faith) in Him were afterward to receive. For the [Holy] Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (raised to honor).

John 15:26 [SUP]26 [/SUP]But when the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) comes, Whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth Who comes (proceeds) from the Father, He [Himself] will testify regarding Me.

All this begins with the truth in the Bible. So if we want to discover our purpose in life we go to the Bible and ask the Lord to show and teach us what He wants for us. Find a good Bible preaching teaching church that encourages their people to study the Bible. God has good plans for each of us personally. For good and not evil.

As we read the Bible the Holy Spirit teaches us personally the truth and most of all the love/grace God has for us in Christ. As far as finding out the purpose for our lives and what direction we should go in., it's different for each one of us in how we can bring honor and glory to Him., but the main thing I've learned is God wants us to know He loves us and will show us the path to go on when we acknowledge Him in our lives. It's a promise He made.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
[SUP]
5 [/SUP]Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

I've seen that this is a life long journey as we learn how to acknowledge Him in everything we do in our daily life. And He teaches us more and more as we go. It's a good journey because He is always by our side and His promise to direct us is real. It's all in the Bible and the Holy Spirit will teach us as we go.

Being in the will of God and knowing our purpose for living is something God wants us to know and be sure of YES. Not only that but the JOY of the Lord is our strength. He gives us a new heart that is fulfilled in following Him. He becomes our Good Shepherd. Psalm 23

[SUP]1 [/SUP]The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack.
[SUP]
2 [/SUP]He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters.
[SUP]
3 [/SUP]He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him—not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake.
[SUP]
4 [/SUP]Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.
[SUP]
5 [/SUP]You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with [SUP][a][/SUP]oil; my [brimming] cup runs over.
[SUP]
6 [/SUP]Surely or only goodness, mercy, and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, and through the length of my days the house of the Lord [and His presence] shall be my dwelling place.

There is so much good news in the Bible I've only touched on a tiny bit in my enthusiasm. Even thought this post is loooooooooooooooooooooooong. Just had my morning coffee and kept thinking and typing.
So read the Bible nhyria7 and you will find the answers you are looking for. You can email me anytime.

Thank you everyone, especially ladylynn for your responses! I agree lots of prayers are needed, in addition to holy living, and saturating one's self in the Word of God, to discover what is the God's will for one's life! Once again, God bless!

I believe Christ was God in flesh. He knew from the beginning what he was going to do. I might suggest you not worry about this. Live one day at a time. The Lord will lead and someday you will understand your role.

Romans 11:33-36
King James Version(KJV)

33.)O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

34.)For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

35.)Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

36.)For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

Romans 12:1-2
King James Version(KJV)

1.)I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2.)And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Matthew 16.13-21 says
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” [SUP]14 [/SUP]And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” [SUP]15 [/SUP]He *said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” [SUP]16 [/SUP]Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” [SUP]17 [/SUP]And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. [SUP]18 [/SUP]I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. [SUP]19 [/SUP]I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.” [SUP]20 [/SUP]Then He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ.

The Holy Ghost reveals things to us and we can simply ask him to show us what are divine purpose for the kingdom is.
I also agree that prayer helps in this area.

IN the above Passage we see how Peter got to know his purpose.

One thing I have observed is that what you do in the natural[your job, your likes, your motivations for life] often times are exactly what your purpose is all about in the kingdom.

The purpose may be a call to full time ministry or the purpose could be to fulfill something in your current role.

Everyone is called to be a minister of reconciliation, which is a fancy way of saying, showing Jesus to the world.

Start there, then seek, ask and knock and the Holy ghost will reveal the plans & purpose he has for you...

Hello resurrection33, you said something very interesting. You said that Christ was God in the flesh, so no matter what, Christ will know all things. So then I'm reminded by various people in the Bible, who were like you and me, that lived their lives without knowing their purpose until something happens to reveal their destiny.

Example, Joseph the son of Jacob, did not know he will be the second of command of Egypt and save alot of people from starvation.
Then, there is queen Esther, whom Mordecai stated "who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?" Esther 4:14
And then there is Mary the mother of Jesus. She probably thought, she would live a normal life, not knowing she would be the one who would bring the Messiah into the world.

So, resurrection33, I really like your answer and I am beginning to realize that it's one of God's mysteries. The thing that I have to say to myself, it is just too wonderful to me to comprehend. However, sometimes I believe it can be hard to not worry about it and to take it one day at a time. Because, deep inside, one can feel that they are not living up to their fullest potential and that each passing day, it's an missed opportunity.

I hope what I am saying makes sense.

There is God's base line will:

* Getting baptised by full immersion after you've been saved-- picturing what Jesus has done for you.
* With this baptism.. joining a biblical New Testament church with Jesus as the Head of that church (not a building.. but the community of saved, baptised believers that are members)
* Fellowship with other believers of like faith and order empowered by Jesus
* Continuous prayer empowered by Jesus
* Telling others about Jesus' testimony in your life
* Daily reading the Word of God
* Learning to read the Word of God in context
etc.

Practice doing these things.. by reliance on Jesus.. and then God's SPECIFIC will for you personally will be revealed to you. He will direct your talents into a particular area as you are faithful in these areass.

'in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths'

Sometimes our egos can lead us astray. We want to be amazing and so we grow impatient. Instead of following the Lord's lead, we develop our own agendas. It happens all the time. We just don't want it to happen to us.

Obey the Lord's commandments and be patient. You were right when you said, "It is just too wonderful to me to comprehend." The Lord's plans for us surpass our own.

Hi nhyria7!

I think it's important to always remain in the knowledge of God's love for you. Keep hearing and hearing the word. Jesus always tells us not to worry, and to always give thanks. Remember Martha and Mary? Jesus told Martha that she was worried and troubled about many things but Mary chose the good part which was listening to Jesus.

Also John, who referred to himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved, focused on the love of Jesus and ended up being the only disciple to be present at the cross. He was given much ministry while remaining in God's love.

Right now, you may already be doing God's purpose for your life and not be aware of it. That's why keep giving thanks, be always mindful of Jesus' love and do not worry nor fear. Trust in Him, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

Wow! blessedjohn80! That is powerful!! And so true!! It puts things into perspective. Knowing that, one should learn to be grateful and learn how to love God with our entire being. And the funny thing is, it sounds simple but it's so hard to do, B/c the whole invisible aspect of God. Loving a being who we can't see, I believe is the tough part of the Christian experience.

God really is amazing! Yes, it sounds simple but very difficult to accomplish. Thanking God for the things we already see and have is still much easier, i guess. But we have to trust God that every moment He is working behind the scenes for us.

"The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed." - Deuteronomy 31:8

God bless you! Peace.
