There once was a man named Howard. Howard was a very careful driver. He completely obeyed all the traffic laws in our town. Yes, with perfection, he fulfilled them all. Stop signs, speed limit signs, no parking signs - Old Howard kept every single law. In memory of his passing, the town abolished all traffic laws, since Howard had fulfilled them so perfectly.
As a matter of fact, in that town now, if you try to drive under the speed limit, you will get angry looks from the townsfolk. They will tell you that you are trying to add to what Howard has done. So, in this town, driver beware, don't dare try to obey the old traffic signs.

an allegory?

You left out the part where Howard taught ((nay, transformed)) the people to drive cautiously and with perfect charity, from the heart, so that they no longer had any need for a written traffic law.

And you are slanderously misrepresenting the good folk of the town with these lies about angry looks.

Wow.

Really?

Love fulfills the Law, because love does no harm to its neighbor.

Did Howard put his spirit in the townspeople and live his life through them?

Were the townspeople adopted as co-heirs with Howard, with the promise that Howard's father would teach them in the way they should go?

Poor disciplemike. Can't make his case with Scripture, so he tries to make his case with Howard.

I think all the town folk believed Howard's righteousness was imparted to all of them, despite their ongoing and numerous accidents and traffic violations. The only problem in claiming Howard's righteousness as their own, is that same righteousness that was manifest in Howard's actions is not being manifest in all the town folks who still practice ongoing lawlessness. :)

It wasn't the fact that they were driving under the speed limit that they got angry looks. It was the fact that their bumper stickers say, " I am Howard." And they were big bumper stickers. took up the whole back of the vehicle.

And they drove slow, to make sure everybody saw it.

You are looking at the situation from a worldly point of view.

16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.

17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.
We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (from 2 Cor. 5)

17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people,so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. 19
For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death,
so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (from Rom. 5)

I'm so thankful that the Scriptures are so clear on this issue!!!

More like an idiocy. LOL Howard was just a Pharisee, and what he did affected no one's eternal life.

Did God credit Abraham with righteousness because he followed the Mosaic Law?

Awwww, go easy on Howard! Maybe he was a believer taught by grace, and over time became more and more obedient ;).

The rest of the story makes no sense, but that's not Howard's fault!

Folks, please.
I know you all have strong emotions about this.
You drive every day and see the signs.

But can we at least observe a moment of silence for Howard?
