There is very little posted on CC regarding angels. The angels portrayed in the Bible are not the cute little cherubs or female fairy lookalikes often assumed by society at large, in the Bible they are most often portrayed as male and strong - they have to be in order to protect in many cases but most often they cannot be seen unless revealed to man for a purpose, they are spiritual and cannot reproduce, like us they are created beings. Angels never die and have been around since the earth was formed.

The task of angels are to serve God and to worship Him but they also have many other tasks:
To message (Acts 7:52-53)
Guide (Acts 8:26 & 10:1-8, Matt 1-2)
Provide (Genesis 20:17-21, 1 Kings 19:6, Matt 4:11
Protect (Daniel 3&6)
Deliver (Acts 5&12
Strengthen and encourage (Matt 4:11, Acts 5:19-20 & 27: 23-25)
Answer prayer (Daniel 9:20-24 & 10:10-12, Acts 12: 1-17)
Care for believers at the moment of death. (Luke 16:22)
They are even described as executioners. (2 Kings 19:20-34)

Angels are stronger than men but not omnipotent, more knowledgeable but not omniscient, more noble but not omnipresent. Not all angels are good, satan and his demons are all fallen angels that were thrown out of Heaven.

I think angels can surround us the minute they are called upon, I smile when I realise this - it's kind of reassuring to know and I understand how Jesus must have been reassured when He was ministered to in the wilderness by them. They were there to proclaim His birth and they will be there at our moment of death - what a blessing!

Great topic!

Just be careful not to violate Colossians 2.18-20....

Angels do nothing against the word/will of God....

They are also the reapers sent to harvest the stumbling blocks and lawless ones in the kingdom, at the end of the age...Matt 13.39

Was it God's desire for Satan to rebel? Surely He allowed it but is that what He wanted to happen?

Haha yeah well I don't worship angels for they are created beings. Worship is for The Creator alone. I just don't feel we consider them or know much about them.

Good post.
Whenever I see people post "I believe in angels" on facebook, I am tempted to ask "what kind of angels?"
Most people seem to think of them as something very different from what described in the bible

The short answer is "no," because even Angels have free will.

Heb 1:13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
Heb 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

All people that shall inherit salvation have angels that minister to them.

1Pe 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

God loves the angels, but people are His pride and joy, which the angels desire to look in to that salvation, for the saints will have a higher position in heaven than that of the angels, for they will have a glorified body like Christ, and rule with Christ in the millennial reign of Christ,a privilege the angels will never have.

The angels assist God in the salvation of the saints.

I completely agree and the secular use facebook to talk about (their own version of) angels most especially when a loved one has died. What can you say when someone is grieving?

Hi Magenta,
I should have said non-fallen angels do nothing agaisnt the will/Word of God. This really was stated because some people believe they can command angels to do anything for them, and that is only partially true, because non-fallen angels will not go against God's will or his Word.

NO, it was not God's desire for Satan, because just like us, he gave the angels free choice. Like wise NO, he is not something he wanted to have happen.

Eze 28.12 says Satan had the seal of perfection, was full of Wisdom and beautiful....

I wonder what lie he told the other 1/3 of the Angels that made them follow him?

There is no female,or male, angels, for there is no gender with angels, but they are given masculine names for they are greater in power than people.

The only thing that determines gender is the flesh, and does not apply in the spiritual realm with angels,or people.

Jesus said the saints will not be given in marriage in heaven, and shall be as the angels in heaven, which means there is no gender in heaven among people.

The only thing that separates a man and a woman is the flesh, for the spirit and soul are the same, and when they put off the flesh and are in heaven, there is no gender between them.

That is why the Bible says that a man and woman are equal in the Lord.

People are actually above the angels, but not at this moment, but in heaven they will be above the angels, and there is no gender among angels,or people,in heaven.

Everything was made for people, and God to relate to people on their level of being in the flesh, and then a glorified body,so they can relate on His level of eternal life, peace, joy, love, and everything that makes a person feel like a million dollars, and without the plan of God to come in flesh,God would of not created anything that He created(John chapter 1).

This makes absolutely no sense since Jesus himself was a male. Are you saying Jesus has no male gender sitting at the right hand of the Father? If so the Bible says otherwise in Heb 13.8

Also, The final destination is not Heaven, it is the new Jerusalem on the new earth.

Angels that took the form of humans on earth were always male.

Of the angels described in the bible they are always described as male, and we know they have:
1) Priestly roles (unto God)
2) Messenger roles (unto mankind)

Warfare - Michael the Archangel
Messenger angels - Gabriel being the chief of the messengers

Additional types of angels given include Cherubim and Seraphim.
Satan for example is a Cherub and was originally established as the covering angel, the first sound of the morning.

In addition, the angels announced different aspects of Christ's ministry.

When Christ was born, they announced the fulfillment of prophecy.
When Christ was risen, they broke the roman seal by rolling back the stone
When Christ ascended, they appeared and told the people to stop looking up at heaven because Christ will return exactly in the same manner in which He ascended.

Great post!

Job 38
4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

I believe the angels are considered sons of God as here they sang at the glory of God's creation.

From a biblical perspective, any direct creation of God is considered a son of God or a child of God.
In the OT, this would include the first Adam and the angels.
From the NT, it now includes Jesus (the 2nd Adam) as well as born again believers.

Nothing else is considered a son of God or a child of God :)

Right on brother! Have you ever pondered this passage:

"For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven."

and

"That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;"

Is our "inner man" our true self without the physical flesh? Do you think we will all be of male gender in heaven? I know it's a weird thought but...
