When the topic comes up of what happens when you die three are two different answers that come up. One is you go to your eternal place the other is we wait until Jesus returns. I am going to post some scriptures and what I find in them that maybe shed some light.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 - Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
Here the word spirit means Wind or breath like when God breath into man and Gen. 2:7 he became a living soul.
1 Corinthians 15:51-55-
[SUP] [/SUP]Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.[SUP] [/SUP]O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

John 5:28-29-
Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Daniel 12:2- And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Now the other side
Luke 16:22-31
[SUP] [/SUP]And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
This story is used as proof we are alive after death. it is said that because Jesus did use a name it's a true story and the proof id he knew Lazarus name and not the rich man who was a sinner.

2 Corinthians 5-Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

This one is used to saying Paul was saying when he dies he goes to be with the Lord.

There are many more to support both views so which one is Biblically sound. Post your Scripture and one from the opposite view on how you view this.

we go to the grave, only a few exceptions such as Enoch and Elijah, but these are not the normative, the spirit (breath) Ruach in Hebrew and pnuma in the Koine greek return to the one who gave it... upon resurrection, it is returned, the righteous rise incorruptible, the wicked rise with the same type of body they died with, we do not have immortal souls, (1 Tim. 6:16) everlasting life is given after all are judged (Heb. 9:27)

I believe Luke 16 is a parable. If the Bible says after our death we have to wait for our resurrection, then we have to believe it.
Paul said those words, but he didn't say that being absent from the body MEANS to be with God.
The scripture says in many places that Jesus Christ is the first to be resurrected, in acts it says not even David has been resurrected.

If any have more scriptures to apply please do. This is not for debate purposes but for clarity on both sides.

For Christians physical death of the body is just a transition necessitated for a new context of life, a "graduation to glory."

When our physical body dies we do not become disembodied spirits/souls. We "will not be found naked" (2 Cor. 5:3) without bodily covering, but will "put on the imperishable and immortal" (1 Cor. 15:53,54) body. We will not be left homeless, even though we "lay aside the earthly dwelling" (2 Peter 1:14) and "the earthly tent is torn down; we have a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens" and "will be clothed with our dwelling from heaven" (2 Cor. 5:1,2).

Here we see the conscious souls of the physically killed saints speaking to the Lord prior to the last trump resurrection--->>>>

[h=1]Revelation 6:9-11[/h] [SUP]9 [/SUP]And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

[SUP]10 [/SUP]And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

[SUP]11 [/SUP]And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled."

Hello InSpiritInTruth,

Those saints which are seen at the opening of the 5th seal would be those who will have been killed after the church has been gathered. The church will not be on the earth during the time of the seals, trumpets and bowl judgments, which is the wrath of God. Where do you get that these souls under the altar are speaking to the Lord prior to the last trump? There is another phase of the first resurrection that takes place for the great tribulation saints, which is after Christ returns to the earth as recorded in Rev.20:4-6.

Hello InSpiritInTruth,

Wrong, there is no resurrection or being caught up in the clouds until the last trump=last day. Proof that there are still saints on earth during the seals, trumpets, and God's wrath being poured out is shown here--->>>>

Revelation 16:1-15

16 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

[SUP]2 [/SUP]And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,
[SUP]11 [/SUP]And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame."

Only the saints of God are given clean white garments, so some of the saints are still on earth alive during this period of God's wrath.
