This discussion seems to keep resurrecting itself. No pun intended.

In answer to your question why or why not let me preface my remarks with the a statement about our atonement. In my opinion, MAN had to die for his sin from the beginning for the sake of the divine consistency of God's curse but in death alone there was no hope since in men their is no source of the "infinite atonement." Only God could atone infinitely for a creature's sin against HIS infinite nature, so that thereafter in holiness/perfection/consistency God had the right to eternally forgive whom he wills to forgive without harm to his divinity and glorifying his great condescension and goodness.

Therefore the mystic union of God/Man in Christ Jesus died on the cross for my sins. The Father in Heaven overseeing.

From all my reading and discussions: Oneness theology cannot and will not say that God died on the cross. In part or in whole this is because they cannot have the "whole" of God in one entity on the cross dying.
the flesh died the spirit never died and hell could not keep the flesh because he had no sin and he preach the gospel to those that are dead, then he raised up from death.

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep

I don't know why so many people have a problem with this concept, unless they are thinking in physical terms. It is simply unity- being of one mind and purpose. If you accept the Father but believe that the Son is not important, you cannot go to heaven. If you accept the Son but grieve the Holy Spirit you cannot go to heaven. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit will not be separated- They are one. If you try to separate an egg shell, and egg white, and an egg yolk, the DNA so-to-speak will all say "egg". God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are all Deity. Jesus says if you've seen Him you've seen the Father. In Revelation John bowed down to worship the angel who spoke to him, but the angel corrected him and instructed him to only worship God. But in Matthew 28:17, when some apostles worshiped Jesus, Jesus did not correct them. Why? Because they weren't wrong. Though some doubted. Doubted what? That Jesus is God (Deity). In Genesis 1:26 it says "Let US make man in OUR image." Who is the "Us"? Is it God and angels? No. Well how do I know? I know because the very next verse says both male and female were made in the image of God. It did NOT say they were made in the image of God and angels. Therefore, according to Genesis 1:26 the one God of the bible is plural. God the Father Himself calls Jesus "God" in Hebrews 1:19 (Therefore God your God has...). Again in John 1:1 "IN the beginning was the Word and the Word was WITH God and the Word WAS God." And we know because of John 1:14 that this person Who is the Word is speaking of Jesus. So how can you be WITH God and be God at the same time? Simply- God is plural (more than one person). God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit form the one God of the bible- just as an egg white, and egg yolk, and an egg shell form one egg.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. How can this be three...
You are counting the son twice
2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

There is no scripture a person that believes in a trinity can quote to support their trinity,if they knew the truth about God.

God is an omnipresent Spirit and is the same throughout His omnipresent Spirit with no distinction of persons.

Before God created anything He is a Holy Spirit.

When He created mankind God became the Father of all the believers.

God manifest all His attributes to His Son,the man Christ Jesus.

It is the same God with no distinction of persons that created all things, gave all His attributes to the Son,the man Christ Jesus, and dwells in the saints.

When we say Father,we are acknowledging that God is our Father.

When we say Son,we acknowledge that God manifest all His attributes to the Son,the man Christ Jesus, and the only way we will see the invisible God,and the Spirit in Jesus is still connected to the omnipresent Spirit of God.

When we say Holy Spirit,we acknowledge that God dwells in His saints.

Matt
There is no Scripture that a person who believes in South America can cite to justify their belief. Does that cause South America to cease to exist? The same can be asked of Australia and many other places.

The evidence for a Trinitarian view of God is overwhelming:

1) the word used to state the oneness of God in Deut 6:4
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: KJV, is the Hebrew word אֶחָֽד which signifies composite, NOT absolute, unity as seen in Num 13:23
23 And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
KJV

2) We are said to be in the image of God Gen 1:27
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. KJV; but if a person were to look in a mirror and claim to see God; he would at best be deluded. The attributes we share with God; which comprise His image, are intellect, will, and emotions:

1) God thinks:

Isa 55:9
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
KJV

2) God decides:

Acts 13:22
22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
KJV

1 Kings 20:42
42 And he said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.
KJV

3 God feels emotion:

Ps 69:30-31
30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.
31 This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.
KJV

Ps 78:35-40
35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
36 Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
KJV

Jesus is directly said to be God in John 1:1-14

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
KJV

The Holy Spirit is said to be of God:

Gen 1:2
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
KJV

The Holy Spirit has attributes of personhood:

1) the Spirit has intellect in that He knows things:

1 Cor 2:11
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
KJV

The Holy Spirit has will:

1 Cor 12:11
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
KJV

The Holy Spirit has emotion:

Eph 4:30
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
KJV

Hence, the Holy Spirit is a person of God.

The Son was Son before He was a man, Hebrews 7:3 etc etc etc.
The Father was Father before His Son became flesh.
The Spirit is and always has been the Spirit of the Father and the Spirit of the Son.
It is the Spirit of the Man Jesus Christ that is new, John 7:37-39; 1 Cor 15:45
humanity being added to the Spirit in Jesus' resurrection, just as humanity was
added to the Son in Christ's incarnation, John 1:14; Philippians 2:7-8

The Trinity doctrine simply tries to reconcile five Scriptural truths:

1. The Father is God.
2. The Son is God.
3. The Holy Spirit is God.
4. God is one.
5. God has eternally existed in Three Distinct Persons.

Here's a summary of each of the points along with Scriptural references:

200 Words: Why We Believe in the Trinity | The Cripplegate

Some will say that the word Trinity isn't in the Bible..I will counter by saying the word Bible isn't in the Bible either.

The concept of the Trinity is certainly taught whether the word is explicitly mentioned or not. In addition, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is mentioned several times in a manner that indicates their association.

I do not want to debate a trinity or oneness, but I do believe in only one God with no distinction of persons, and I cannot be blamed because scriptures point me to that.

I believe there is only one God that is a Holy Spirit, and that is why the Spirit moved upon the face of the deep in creation, and Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit dwells in the saints.Father is a title for God,and the Son is the man Christ Jesus, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit.

I believe that Father,Son,and Holy Ghost, are not 3 persons in one God,but the 3 relationships that God has with His saints designated by titles.

Father-God's title for His parental role in our life.

Son-God's visible relationship to the saints.

Holy Spirit-God's invisible relationship to the saints.

Somebody that believes in a trinity, explain these things.

They say there is 3 persons in one God,so that means it would take all 3 persons to make one God,so you would not be able to call them God separately, but they say God the Father,God the Son,and God the Holy Spirit, which then they are saying there are 3 Gods.

Is it 3 persons in one God,or is it 3 Gods.3 persons in one God does not make sense, for if you say 3 persons they would have to be 3 Gods.

They calls Jesus,God the Son,so Jesus as God has to have a beginning, because son means to be begotten and have a father.

But the Bible says when the Son comes He will be from everlasting to everlasting, which means He will have no beginning(Micah 5:2).

If they say Jesus has no beginning, why is He called the Son.If they say Jesus is a created God by the Father,God said there was no God created before Him,and there will be no God created after Him.

If Jesus is God the Son walking on earth, then why was He conceived by the 3rd person of the trinity, the Holy Spirit, and the Bible never mentions God the Son.

Why does the Bible call the Son,the everlasting Father(Isaiah 9:6-7),and Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father and they would be satisfied, and Jesus said,I have been with you all this time and you do not know Me,he that has seen Me has seen the Father,it is the Father that dwells in Me,He does the works.

Jesus told the disciples that when He resurrects to heaven, for them to not ask Him anything, but only ask the Father and He will do it,but in another passage of scripture Jesus said when He resurrects to heaven to ask Him and He will do it.

In the Old Testament the Jews only believed in one God,the Father, and not 3 persons in one God,as it is to this day,and the Father was not angry for them believing that in the Old Testament. If there is a trinity why would God,the Father, allow them to believe He is the only God.

The New Testament says there is one God,the Father, and in another scripture, one God,and Father of all.Why would the Bible both Old Testament, and New Testament, ascribe the Father as being the only God.

The Bible says that the Son shall deliver up the kingdom to the Father, but in another passage of scripture it says that Jesus will present the Church to Himself.

When you view God as a trinity, there is contradictions in the Bible, but when you view God as one God with no distinction of persons, there is no contradictions.

Jesus is fully God and fully man,so He does not have a beginning according to His deity, but has a beginning according to His humanity, which the Bible says the Son was made according to the flesh, and made of a woman, made under the law.

God is in all,and through all.God's Spirit does not move around physical objects, but flows through them, for God occupies all space.

Jesus is God manifest in the flesh, which means God manifest all His attributes to the man Christ, and the Spirit in Christ is still connected to the omnipresent Spirit of God,for God cannot be separated. In the Son,God manifest all His attributes, and in the saints He manifests partial attributes.

Jesus is conceived of the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit in Christ is connected to the omnipresent Spirit of Gd for God cannot be separated.Jesus does not have the Spirit in Him that moves around with Him,because the Spirit does not have to move for the Spirit is already there, and the same with us.

Since God occupies all space, and the Spirit cannot be separated, and does not have to move for the Spirit is already there, and God is in all,and through all,the Son and the saints have the Spirit that occupies the space they are at.

When Jesus was in the womb,He had the Spirit that occupied that space, but when He came out of the womb, the Spirit did not move with Him outside the womb, but then He had the Spirit that occupied the space outside the womb.If Jesus was standing at a certain location,He had the Spirit that occupies that location, but if He moved 10 feet away,He had the Spirit that occupied that space, for where ever Jesus was at,and we are at,the Spirit is there. We do not have our own personal Spirit that moves around with us,but we have the Spirit at whatever space we are at.The Spirit does not move with us,for the Spirit does not have to move, but we are moving through the Spirit as we walk, and where ever we move the Spirit is there.

Jesus is conceived by the Spirit, and the Spirit in Christ is connected the omnipresent Spirit of God,for God cannot be separated.Jesus is not a visible God that has His own personal Spirit, but the Spirit in Him is connected to the omnipresent Spirit of God,and Jesus moves through the Spirit like the saints,so no matter where He moves and the saints move, the Spirit is there. The Spirit does not have to move, but we move through the Spirit.

Take a tub of water. It is the same substance throughout the tub.Put a glass at the bottom and it fills up with water.Move the glass one foot away, and it has the water that occupies that space. The water does not need to move with the glass, for one foot away the water is there.

God is an omnipresent Spirit, and Jesus moves through the Spirit, and where ever Jesus is at,He has the Spirit that occupies that space, the Spirit does not move with Him,for where ever Jesus is at,the Spirit is there.

Jesus is a visible manifestation of God,flesh robed around deity, but that deity is also around the flesh, and through the flesh, but that does not mean it is another God,but God showing a visible manifestation of Himself to provide salvation, and to have a visible relationship with the saints in heaven, which the throne in heaven is the throne of both God and the Lamb,God in the glorified body of the man Christ Jesus.

Some things that appear to point to a trinity, but is actually one God.

1.Baptism in the name of the Father,Son,and Holy Ghost. It says name, not names, and those terms are titles not names. The name is Jesus.Jesus is the one that created all things, came in flesh, and dwells in the saints.Jesus told them to baptize in the name of the Father,Son,and Holy Ghost,to let them know He is the one true God,that created all things, came in flesh and works among them physically, and dwells in the saints, and works among them spiritually.

Luke said, that baptism should be done in Jesus' name.

In the book of Acts,Jews,Gentiles, and Samaritans, were all baptized in the name of Jesus.

All we do in word,or deed,we do in the name of Jesus.

There is no other name by which we are saved, but the name of Jesus.

In the Old Testament, the Father said, that one day He will speak to the Jews, and reveal His new name to them(Isaiah 52:6).Jesus said He came in His Father's name, manifested His Father's name, and declared the Father's name.

The Father's name is Jesus.

The Holy Spirit told Mary the Son's name will be Jesus, and the Son inherited the name from the Father(Hebrews 1:4).The prophet Agur asked the question, what is His name and His son's name,if you can tell(Proverbs 30:1-4).Since Jesus is God manifest in the flesh,it is the name of both God the Father, and the Son,the man Christ Jesus.

The Son's name is Jesus.

The Holy Spirit comes in the name of Jesus(John 14:26).

2.Jesus at the right hand of God,which they believe that Jesus sits on a throne next the Father.

The Bible says there is only one throne in heaven(Revelation 4:2),and it is the throne of both God and the Lamb(Revelation 22:3).The only person we will see in heaven is Jesus, who is God in a visible manifestation, and God's visible relationship to the saints.

The Bible says, there is one God,and one mediator between God and men,the man Christ Jesus. The man Christ Jesus is our savior, because only a sinless man can approach a holy God on behalf of mankind. No man is sinless,so God manifest Himself in flesh, and reconciled mankind back to Himself in the person of Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man in harmony.

God's right hand represents,power,authority,wisdom,and salvation.

Jesus said, all power is given to Me in heaven and earth.

David said, the LORD said unto my Lord, sit thou at My right hand until I make your enemies your footstool, and the Bible says the Son must reign until all His enemies are conquered, and then the Son shall submit to the Father, that God may be all in all.

Since the man Christ Jesus is our savior,He must reign until all His enemies are conquered, and we are with Him,and then Son will stop reigning that God may be all in all.

When the Bible says that Jesus sits at the right hand of God,that means that God exalted the man Christ Jesus to exercise the throne of power, for a certain amount of time, when all His enemies are conquered, and the saints are with Him,and then the man Christ Jesus will stop exercising the throne of power, and God will be the only one ruling,,which God always rules.

Since Jesus is God manifest in the flesh,God is ruling through the man Christ Jesus for the sake of the saints.Jesus st the right hand of God is only a temporary role, and when the Son fulfills that role, then the Son will not rule, that God may be all in all.

3.Let us make man in our image. They believe this points to a trinity, but I believe it is a prophetic statement to the coming Son of God,God manifest in the flesh.

The Bible says that God calls things that have not happened yet,as though they already happened(Romans 4:17),for if it is a plan of God to happen in the future,it is the same as if it happened in the beginning, for it will surely come to pass with no hindrances.

The Old Testament says Adam was created in the image of God.The New Testament says Adam was made in the image of Christ(Romans 5:14).The image of God is the image of Christ.

God had the plan to come in the future in flesh, and created Adam in that image,an innocent nature in flesh.

Since God calls things that have not happened as though they already happened, the man Christ Jesus can be in the beginning before He is born. The Bible says that the Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world, although we know it did not happen until 4000 years later,so the man Christ Jesus was in the beginning before He was born, because God calls things that have not happened as though they already happened.

Since Adam was made in the image of Christ, then the Let us make man in our image has to include the man Christ Jesus,so I do not believe it points to a trinity, but is a prophetic statement to the coming Son of God,God manifest in the flesh, fully God and fully man,the man Christ Jesus.

If someone believes in a trinity there is contradictions, many of them, but if one believes in one God,the Father, all contradictions are gone.

With that many scriptures that seem to contradict a trinity, surely there cannot be a trinity.

Since God the Father allowed the Jews to believe that He is the only God,then everything in the Old Testament would be coming from Him.

Is it 3 persons in one God,or is it 3 Gods.3 persons in one God does not make sense, for if you say 3 persons they would have to be 3 Gods.

Man, all these weird and hard words to understand... From what I know from the Bible, there is one God who became flesh and who can also dwell in you with His Holy Ghost... So there is Father in Heaven, Son of God and Holy Ghost. Why make things hard to understand by using these weird words that actually can't really be defined?

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
- Matthew 28:19

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- Acts 2:38

These verses are telling us the same thing!
What is the name of the Father? What is the name of the Son? What is the name of the Holy Ghost?

HIS NAME IS JESUS CHRIST!

JESUS CHRIST IS GOD! THE HOLY GHOST IS GOD! THE FATHER IS GOD!

Sunday Church notes...

God eternally exists in three persons.
All analogies fall part.
Trinity impacts how you relate to others.
Trinity= tri unity
One God eternally existing in three Persons.
God is one 'what' (Godhead), and three 'whos' (Persons).
Deut 6:4 Shema (God is one) used by Jews Islam
The word One is a composite oneness leaving room for the Trinity. e.g. I and the Father are ONE.
HEB 9:14"the Eternal Spirit"...Great Commission 2Thess 2:13 (all three mentioned) 16 similar passages.

What Trinity doesn't mean. ..
1. Is not 3 gods acting as 1 god. (Tritheism)
2. one god acting out in three forms (modalism).
3. one god divided into 3 parts
4. one god who made two other persons (e.g. JW's).

Importance
1. Absolute essential to our salvation. We know Him as He has revealed Himself. Our salvation was an exchange in the Persons
2. Historic fundamental of the Faith. First doctrine that came under attack.
3.integrally vital to our salvation.
4. Original foundation of all relationships.(Father, Son, Holy Spirit in reation to each other)

It doesn't make sense for Jesus to pray to the Father, if there are not distinctions within the Godhead.

The Triune nature of God also describes why God is love...God has existed in community since eternity.

I would suggest reading Forgotten Trinity by James White.

Regarding "making sense", how do you make sense of the fact that God has existed since eternity? We know it's true because Scripture teaches that God is uncreated. However, realizing how that can be for a created being is difficult. We only know of things that have a beginning.

The same is true of the Trinity. We know that 1. God is One. 2. The Father is God. 3. The Son is God. 4. The Holy Spirit is God. 5. These three are distinct Persons.

That is the biblical revelation.

Again, read Forgotten Trinity by James White. It is an excellent book in this regard.

[SUP]10 [/SUP]Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God(Isaiah 43:10-12).

[SUP]6 [/SUP]But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him(1 Corinthians 8:6).

There is only one God,the Father, who created all things,in which we are in God,and one visible manifestation of God,the Father, that is eternal, the Lord Jesus Christ, which is the whole purpose of God creating mankind(John 1:3,Revelation 4:11).

[SUP]6 [/SUP]One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all(Ephesians 4:6).

[SUP]7 [/SUP]If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?
[SUP]10 [/SUP]Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake(John 14:7-11).

[SUP]6 [/SUP]For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this(Isaiah 9:6).

Is it 3 persons in one God,or is it 3 Gods.3 persons in one God does not make sense, for if you say 3 persons they would have to be 3 Gods.

It is an excellent book in this regard.
i pray to the Father just like Jesus taught. praying to a 3 person godhead makes no sense and i dont think Jesus taught confusion.

So, are you saying denying the full deity of Jesus Christ? it's obvious that the Father is God, and that Jesus is not the same person as the Father.

The thread might be great for the academic mind, but jaybird88 put things in their proper perspective. The bible says:
Do not go beyond what is written 1cor4:6

No confusion then

The Trinity doctrine is only unclear to those who deny it. It's perfectly clear to me and most Christians. Please be aware that most Christians are Trinitarians.

I accept all of what Scripture says concerning God's nature. Scripture says that God is One, and that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all God, and all distinct Persons.

This sentence describes the Trinity doctrine. No confusion there. I think the confusion is when individuals try to think according to the way this world works, where there is only one person per essence. I am one person and I have one essence (body), therefore God must be the same way. That is fallacious thinking.
