[TD="colspan: 3, align: left"]God promised Abraham that he would be the heir of the world. Now, don’t be too quick to say, “Well, that promise was made only to Abraham and not me.” The verse says, “For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.” So the promise was not just made to Abraham, but to “his seed” as well, that is, you and I who belong to Christ—“And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” (Galatians 3:29)

Notice that God did not say that you would be the heir of the country you are living in, but heir of the world! The Greek word for “world” here is kosmos, which means the universe as well as the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments, advantages and pleasures. All these are yours to inherit through the righteousness of faith in Jesus and His finished work at the cross. This righteousness is given to you as a gift from God, so you don’t have to earn it through good works.

For God to fulfill His promise, He has to prosper you. You can’t be the heir of the world and be in lack or in debt! Not only that, He must keep you healthy because you can’t inherit the world when you are sick and always flat on your back.

Don’t listen to people who tell you that you will only get to enjoy these blessings when you get to heaven one fine day. Why would you need riches in heaven? There, even the streets are made of pure gold. (Revelation 21:21) And why would you need healing in heaven? There is no sickness there. So you need the health and provision in the here and now!

Beloved, God wants you to be the heir of the world today. So lay hold of your rich inheritance today. Jesus paid for it with His blood. Don’t push it all to the sweet by and by![/TD]

The message of God's love and righteousness being found only in Christ is the GOOD NEWS. We can't do it to gain it ourselves. We are admonished to cease the work we humans try so hard so we can accomplish something good. We are told to learn about resting IN Christ and His finished work.

Amazing how we are given all these promises by faith. By faith we learn to walk in the righteousness we were given. It takes practice to be able to take when we are used to earning.

We can't be good enough to earn these awesome gifts. That is why God has made it a total gift. We cannot try to earn it or work to keep it. It's ours because of Jesus, not because of our sacrifices of working and suffering here on earth for it. We humans get so mixed up when we look to ourselves for the answers.

We are heirs to the promises. Heirs don't earn their position. They are born to it. SomeOne else did it for us. GRACE.

When I read these wonderful promises it lifts me for the whole day. Knowing these things are freely given because of His Love for me makes all the disappointments and failures in life get in proper perspective. If God be for us who can be against us?? Taking that to heart will actually change everything. Putting the past mistakes of the day behind. Either yesterday or many yesterdays where they belong. And receiving today's grace.

We can be lifted up out of our own thinking and brought into the mind of Christ by faith. Knowing this is real and not just a far off promise for when I'm feeling especially "spiritual". It's a truth that God knew we needed to look away from ourselves and see Jesus. He knew how our flesh would get in the way and how looking to Jesus is the only way to have and maintain the promises and be built up in the faith.

We don't maintain our salvation by our works. It's maintained by Jesus through faith. The truth will set us free but only when we believe it. I've often thought of that verse "And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free" John 8:32
as if it was not working. I knew the truth so why is it not setting me free??? Well, silly me I need to believe it for myself in my day to day life or it can't set me free. It will just sit there being true. :)

Is it any wonder why we get depressed and introspective?? What a trap the enemy has used so successfully against us. We already have the selfish tendencies that need replacing by the transforming and in the renewing of our minds. So if we don't take the time to be read the Word so we can have our minds renewed in that transformation we will still be walking in the power of our old thinking.

We need all these promises right now as the author said in the devotional. Once we get to heaven we won't need the faith to have them. Right now we need to be built up in our most holy faith.
:)

Good morning Adstar. Can you tell me how this is not Biblical? Explain how trusting the promises based on Christ's finished work in our lives is not Biblical. Labeling it with the letters WOF is so counter productive and dismissive.

I know a lot of Christians missionaries who are laying their lives down for the Lord every day, and every day they do not know where their next meal is coming from. Some do more for the cause of Christ in a year than many of us do in a lifetime and yet, they die poor, hungry and diseased. We are not of this world. This is not our home.

Why would I need riches here on earth? The Christian's blessings are spiritual blessing kept in store in the heavenly places. That's what I seek.

Colossians 3
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

We need the riches of this world SO THAT we can be a blessing to others - not to consume it on our own lusts. The purpose of being blessed is so that we can be a blessing to others. How do we feed people without resources? How do we care of those that can't take care of themselves?

The Good Samaritan had money to care for the bills of the beat up guy found on the road. Joseph of Arimathea was a disciple of Christ and was rich - yet Christ didn't chastise him for that. God used Joseph's riches to provide a tomb for our Lord.

Religion is just so dumb sometimes and fails to see the big picture. In saying that - there is the warning to not let riches or this world's "stuff" control you or deceive us.

It is a good warning and one that should be heeded - we can easily trust in the "things" we have and if we allow it - that can take the place of the Lord's life and provision in our lives.

All that we are blessed with is for the loving of others and to demonstrate the kingdom of our Lord on this earth.

God is not against His people having "things". He is against "things" having His children.

George Mueller prayed in every day meals for his orphans without "begging for money". He trusted the Lord. There is something to be said about trusting God that "releases His resources" to us.

There is no denying the world will give us problems called "tribulation" BUT Jesus said to be of good cheer because HE has already over come the world. It will become real to us by our faith. Who is he who overcomes? Those of us who have Jesus. 1 John 5:5
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Who is it that is victorious over [that conquers] the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on that fact]

That is what we believers do., we will be victorious when we trust in and rely on Jesus and the facts and truth of what He has done. But we have to believe we walk in His righteousness not our own. We have to believe it first as was said in the previous post. Or the promise just sits there being true doing for us personally no astonishing changes except being far off in all it's glory to see but not have.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I know that sometimes things happen, but God is in control of all things. Those people may have been poor in this world but they were rich with God.

One thing that I have noticed, is that many Christians are down, and depressed, and have a feeling of hopelessness. I have been there many times. I don't think it has to be that way. I want to be able to have faith in God and let him move in my life and be happy and secure in knowing that he is working all things for my good and to my benefit. This is his promise to us and I want to increase my faith in him and his promises because we know that what he promises he is much able to perform according to his good will.

Yes, we live in a world where problems (tribulations) will happen. No denying that. But IN those times we each have to make a choice on how to think and where to look. I cannot answer for the people I don't know or about their personal trials and they can't answer for mine. I cannot base my faith on what others are going through NOR can I base my faith on what I am going through.

We each are all going through something. We each are walking and learning so to point each other to one another is not wise. And the Bible tells us not to compare ourselves with ourselves or by ourselves. We must each one of us look to Jesus and Him alone by faith. Not look to other people or to ourselves "by faith" We look to Jesus "BY FAITH." No faith in us., have faith in HIM.

Jesus never ever promised any material prosperity for His followers in this world... Indeed He told us we would be Hated and persecuted for His name sake.. He said::

John 16:KJV
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Romans 8: KJV
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Also Ladylynn I quoted the part of your OP that i was responding to.. I was not responding to the entire post..

IMO - Jesus also said that people would receive in this time "things" from being in the kingdom. We have to give "things" up before we can safely receive them back.

There is both a warning about "things" controlling us and also a blessing for us in order to be a blessing to others. It is not either or - it's both.

Mark 10:29-30 (KJV)
[SUP]29 [/SUP] And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,

[SUP]30 [/SUP] But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

It looks like we will receive things in this time and with it comes persecutions too. Sounds about right on many different levels.

Sometimes we try to get the cart before the horse and sometimes we refuse both the horse and the cart. We can be in the ditch on both issues.

So true what you posted here brother. Man fails to ever see the big picture in a positive way. Man always always looks at the big picture in a negative hopeless way. ARRRRGGGG!!!!!!

Years ago our pastor told us about George Mueller. We all thought how great to be like that and have faith like that!!!! But....the only way to HAVE faith like that is to trust Jesus 100% George did it and so can we. He was a regular guy too.

God blessed George to be a blessing and because Jesus is our Good Shepherd and promises to take care of us. He also uses us to take care of each other! What a privilege!!! To use the things He has gifted to us and give it to our brothers and sisters is the best thing we can ever do. It's not only a privilege but it is one of the BEST BLESSINGS too.

Man made religion is such a destroyer of faith. It reasons out everything with human intellect. It totally demolishes anything amazing. And puts it all in the sphere of human realms of possibilities that are limited and out of God's realms of possibilities that are limit-LESS.

Yes, but there is no Scripture promising earthly riches to the church.
