One of Angela's threads inspired me to make this. :) I will start off by reposting the response I left on Angela's thread.

Luke 1:37 says "For with God nothing shall be impossible." To me, that is Tequila's (and God's) way of telling me that as long as I have God, nothing will be impossible for me to overcome. :) That the sadness and grief I feel right now, and will feel again and again as my family members die off, will not last forever. Now, anyone who knows me, knows how much I love and miss my beautiful Tequila girl. :) I actually started bawling when I found that verse in my magazine..lol..But I digress, so back to the title of this thread. In hard times, I have always looked to the verse Philippians 4:13. In the last couple of years, it has become a mantra of sorts for me. :) Especially last year when I was knocked out of commission with a herniated disk and sciatica in my left leg. The agony of that was unlike any other pain I have ever had. It is absolutely undescribable, except to say that it's probably worse than the pain of burning in hell. I was alone, had no one to help me, and I was stuck in bed, and on top of all that, I had a terminally ill cat to take care of who made it even harder for me, because she would throw up and poop on the floor rather often.

So here I was, alone and in agony, and having to keep my life going while taking care of a sick animal, and I was unable to stand at all, every move was excruciating. So my daily cry was "Lord please give me your strength, I can't do this myself". And I would remember Philippians 4:13. Long story short, with God I was able to get out to do tasks like checking my mail, taking out the trash, doing shopping and laundry, etc.I especially needed help getting out of bed. God's strength gave me the ability to do it. It hurt like hell, literally, but I had God's strength so I managed to do it all. :)

Philippians 4:13 and Luke 1:37 are my go-to verses in times of trials and pain. Now tell me what some of YOUR trials have been, and what verses you used to get you through. :)

17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
18 The Lord hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.

Ps 116:3-8

3 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.
4 Then called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.
5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.
6 The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me.
7 Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee.

2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

I have loved there with an everlasting love..

Ez 16:4-6
It's a lot to type but basically speaks of your being unwanted and left to fend for yourself, no one cared and God passed by and said LIVE...

My whole life I felt unwanted and as if I belonged no where, but God gave me a life in Him and I'm wanted and loved very much.. As is everyone

The profile page asks you to write your favorite verse when you sign up, but I, like many others, I'm guessing, have too many to pick, so I didn't put one in.
It's really wonderful how the Lord will give us different 'words from His Word' in different seasons of life, to comfort, or to encourage, or strengthen and embolden, to just rest in, or be awestruck by, sometimes even to chasten, if need be, not to condemn, but perhaps to warn or re-focus us, and all by His grace to grow us and love us and teach us His love.

'Hard times' can mean different things to different people at different times, ..... for some, it's a physical thing, and certain healing verses from His Word will take on special meaning. Or an emotional pain will be met by His grace through a verse of comfort. Sometimes financial woes may strike, and a verse of reassurance that He provides will become the one we'll cling to in hard times.

So much of His Word reminds us of His love and care, and can be applied in hard times, and He knows how to meet each one of us in our individual needs in due season, as well as sometimes even collectively, when it seems God will place a verse on your heart or mind, and you talk with two or three others around that same time that will say, 'Wow, I just came across that passage in a new way', or 'Really...I just heard someone on the radio teaching on that very same verse!', and you realize there must have been hundreds who were hearing what God placed on your heart, and you get a comforting reassurance that you're not alone.

But, I guess maybe I'm avoiding the question a bit, because as soon as I write down one, another will come to mind, or I'll read someone elses's answer, and I'll think, 'Ooohh, I shoulda wrote that!!!' Lol
So I'll go with what's written so far...all excellent answers, btw, ... and say, 'all of the above' and pray that He gives me the verse needed to help another through hard times. GBU.

Great Thread, TY.

JOHN 14:27.
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

1PETER 3:14-15-16.
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer
to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror,
neither be troubled;

Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers,
they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

I also like John 3:16.. Especially when I feel unloved..
its such a powerful verse but it's so famous that we forget the power and depth of meaning behind it!

Hebrews 12:2 is one of my favorites also .... For the joy set before him he endured the cross... <insert tears emoticon as I realize that the joy set before him was in fact us!!!>

and um just wrote an email about Jeremiah 29:13 which is really an amazing promise :) and many of us have hear the awesome promise of Jeremiah 29:11 as well! There is so much comfort in God's word !

One passage in Scripture really impacted my mind years ago. It was during a time that I was struggling with depression and feeling that my life had no purpose. I read the parable of the Pearl of great price in Matthew 13:45-46. I had read this parable many times in the past, but that day I read it in a whole new light. What really affected me was that the merchant joyfully sold everything he had just to purchase this pearl. I realized that instead of being depressed about certain circumstances in my life, I should rejoice that I had such a precious and invaluable treasure: my faith in Christ. Reading those verses totally changed my outlook and gave me the right perspective.

I also like John 3:16.. Especially when I feel unloved..
Perhaps the thing I hate more than when I feel unloved, ..... (and I'm all too familiar with the feeling, Waayyy too much), ..... is hearing someone else, (especially a woman, or a child), say they feel that way.

It grieves my heart like almost nothing else can, it really, honestly hurts, and I have to fight back the tears, often unsuccessfully.

Mainly because, not only do I know how bad that feels, soooo bad,
but also that I KNOW it's just not true. At least, I know it for others.

Jesus loves you with an abounding, all-encompassing, everlasting love.
I know it as truly as I know anything at all.

My struggle, (only at times, but I'm trying to grow away from it) is believing it for myself as much as I know it beyond a doubt for others, .....

I don't quite have it experientially as many others describe having an encounter, of being bathed in love, peace, joy, light, etc., different experiences I've heard described, and that's wonderful for them, and I guess it makes it undoubtable, undeniable, indescribable, etc.,

Forgive me for saying it, but, perhaps it's pretty easy to believe after having an experience like that.
How could you not?!

I have to more like just accept what I read in scripture or have been told, almost fight against what I feel and experience, and just believe it as best I can. Sometimes it can be a little bit harder than others.
But that's with God, for one thing. Vertically, as some say.

The OTHER thing is on a human level, though. ..... Horizontally.

Just feeling like no one loves you, on a deep, abiding, experiential way, can really hurt, and may be even harder to prove isn't true, sometimes. We don't have a book of promises for that, exactly.

But we're told TO love, not necessarily FEEL like we're loved.
But it must be nice though, and those that have that feeling must have found a very good thing.

Another would be the feeling that you might love another, but it's either un-requited, or perhaps not proper or permissable to feel that way, so you can't do much to act upon the feeling.

Those things all can hurt, and I'm not sure what scriptures apply there, except to trust in the Lord, (like in Proverbs3:5-6 or like blb said, John3:16 can always apply), and try to let knowing He loves you supercede any feelings or perhaps even realities of not being loved by others.

I guess. But what do I know?! :p Aaahh, love.
I now have so much more I want to say.
And do. And give. And receive. And experience.....

ahh this is very beautiful ! "Is believing it for myself as much as I know it beyond a doubt for others!" You must be a beautiful minister of the word to those around you, notwithstanding your own doubts which have no place when your heart calls you to serve others!
And for you, since you have not had the encounter, are you not the opposite of Thomas? Indeed you have very little to build your faith upon , which must mean your faith is very big and bueatiful :). And Jesus certainly says you are blessed who has not seen and yet believed! Pretty sure Hebrews 11:1 and 11:6 makes you smile, knowing that your faith is precious and big and absolutely real!

I find the verse that speaks to me during a trial is the "rhema" word from Him that speaks inside my spirit at the time of the trial or circumstance.

If I can quiet the "noise" in my head long enough - I can hear what He is saying within my spirit. Jesus said "The words that I speak to you are spirit and they are life."

Then it's time to latch onto that word like a dog on a bone. It's with faith and patience we inherit the promises of God. We are all learning to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

He doesn't chastise us for failing - He encourages us to keep on walking - the same we do with children learning how to walk. We need a revelation of His deep love for us.

PS. 115:11.
Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: He is their help and their shield.

PS. 118:8.
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

125:1.
They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed,
but abideth for ever.

143:8
Cause me to hear Thy loving kindness in the morning; for in Thee do I trust:
cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto Thee.

PRO. 3:5.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

NAH. 1:7.
The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that trust in Him.

1TH. 2:4.
But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak;
not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

1TIM. 4:10.
For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God,
who is The Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

HEB. 13:18.
Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.
