Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8). (This can be done, providing the Cross is the Object of our Faith, which then gives the Holy Spirit latitude to help us.)

Our thinking and believing are tied together. Our inner man is renewed through our knowledge and through our dependency upon what Jesus did for us at Calvary (2 Corinthians 4:16). Our inner man is renewed by applying the benefits of the Cross to our life every single day.

We are seeing things that we should never see or should be heard of immorality on a consistence basis. We need our minds covered with the Blood of Jesus. We need our minds covered guarded by the peace of God. This why the Apostle Paul says in Philippians 4:7, "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Christ peace is one of the benefits from Calvary.)

Think on things that promote the love of Christ in us. Our minds have been bought with the Blood of Jesus. Let the things we think about be glorifying and acceptable to you that bring you glory. Psalm 19:14

When he is always on our minds when he is the passion of our passions and when we are constantly in communion with him even if it's just chatting with him during the day we see him and his works everywhere we start to be able to see with different eyes even something as simple as a small pebble on the sidewalk can lead to revelation he can and will use anything to speak teach and encourage his children especially those who actively seek him actively think and talk with him.

Upon constantly thinking of heavenly things we constantly begin living in the heavenly things entering a realm of absolute beauty and closeness with him a realm that is not commonly known a connection of the hearts that rarely heard of. Believe me if you think he is amazing and beautiful now wait until you and him enter that realm and make that special intimate connection and don't be surprised at how much deeper you and him will go and how much more of his beauty and absolute wonder he will show you.

Yes - we need to think on "these things", but not forget to think upon the hurts inflicted upon others in our world, and intercede.

We need to think upon the ones who need our help, our comfort, our shelter. Because our Lord is.

It is all about balance. A time to look around us and see reality and a time to open our eyes to what he has made pleasant and lovely to us - the things that lead us to praise.

From my experience constantly thinking and living on the heavenly things he tends to draw us into seasons in which we weep for the hurting and the lost as if he is saying follow me and feel what I feel. I think it just naturally flows like a flowing river one minute you will be basking in his glory and then you will come into a place of loving mourning

There is a lot more to Paul's words in this text than this. This is the means by which we confront human experience, especially those that are most trying. Our experiences are are not part of a closed system. Paul is explaining how he was able to deal with his thorn in the flesh.
