Hi all,

I have heart it been said that your greatest ministry will come from the greatest pain or suffering you have had in your life.
What do people think? Is it true? What does the bible say about this?

I'm not sure but from experience in a number of circumstances that I had and still am pushing through I have cried out, "Father, teach me how to deal with this so I may help others in the same circumstance one day!"

depends, some I've seen have used their testimony as a way to grab people's attention. I don't think it's for everyone but for some.

I do not see anything in the Bible to give this theory validation..

I personally think that it is probably based on the simple human condition of empathy..

People who have suffered from a certain type of bad experience are more compassionate upon other people who are experiencing or have recently experienced the same bad experience..

A person who has suffered food deprivation and experienced days of hunger will feel more empathy for a hungry person they may see and they will have a lot more motivation to go out of their way to help the one they see starving..

A person who has experienced being bullied have far more empathy for another person who they see being bullied and will be far more likely to be motivated to step in and intervene and try to stop the bullying..

So i can see how someone who has experienced deprivation of living on the streets and being homeless for a short time in their lives would later be motivated to work in a ministry working with homeless people... Or a victim of child abuse would be motivated to work with abused Children as a foster family..

The greatest ministry comes when the Holy Spirit empowers you with his anointing to use you. It is not about you and what you have experienced. It is only from Him and it totally directs people to Jesus.

It is when the WORD is spoken that reaches people's hearts. The Holy Spirit gives that word life.

I agree with your very true point that the Greatest Ministry personal and in general always come from getting that Holy Spirit enabling to be able to do what it is one is doing in a ministry.. The Holy Spirit gives us inspiration to be able to be effective in what we go out to do..

But I would add that the correct view of " anointing" is that ALL christians are anointed - with the Holy Spirit. It's not just for a select few and there is no such thing as a " second blessing."Once Jesus is in - He is in.....along with all the other blessings.

Who better to help those who are in pain or suffering, than those who have experienced the same pain or suffering?

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (2 Cor 1:3-4)

11COR. 12:9.
And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness.
Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

any weakness that we experience; emotional, Spiritual, physical, - after we do everything we can and
figure out that it is not enough, Christ comes in and fulfills the Scripture, 'that He is the Author and
Finisher of our Faith...

if I can recognize that my weakness is bitterness, or jealousy, or low self esteem, He can surely
change the 'bitterness' into sweetness, and 'jealousy' into acceptance, and low self esteem into
the correct measure of accessing oneself...in short, through Him, our weaknesses are made strong
that we may be allowed to minister unto others with compassion through the Love of Christ in
our hearts...

Yes all Christians have the Holy Spirit... But i am talking about specific anointing for a certain specialist area of work. In the scriptures Paul spoke of the special blessings like wisdom, prophecy, healing, tongues, and others and that each individual was given different abilities with the body of Christ..

1 Corinthians 12 KJV
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
14 For the body is not one member, but many.
15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:

I don't have my Bible with me here at work but there is a scripture that says to comfort others with the same comfort you have received. I know that's not a perfect quote.

I know because of the very low income I have and how I struggle, I have a heart for people who don't have enough, whether it is food, money, etc. I try to help others anonymously when I can with what I have because I know how it feels to suffer.
