Mat 22:36-40, "Teacher, what is the greatest commandment in the Law? Yahshua said to him: You must love YHWH your Father with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might (Deuteronomy 6:5). This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself (Leviticus 19:18). On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

Is this teaching still valid for the NT Christian?

and

How does this apply to our walk?

If we are not following Christ and doing his will, are we saved?

There is so much in the NT about obedience. Of course, it does not save us, but it certainly reflects as to whether we are walking with Christ.

It should help you come to Christ.

When you find out you can't do it perfectly you'll need help, right? Who will help? Only One can help. The Lord Jesus Christ.

Can you command someone to love something, or is this actually talking more about
a path of learning and foundations?

You cannot love what you do not know. You cannot know without leaning and interaction.

Some say these two commands are impossible so fail and we all sin.
But they could also be two realities, the Lord and our neighbour are worthy of love, but
you need to learn the why.

As I have grown as a believer, I worship God not because I am told to, but because
He is worthy. The strange thing to us these realities are boasting, but it is not boasting
if it is infinitely true.

In revelations the Lamb is worthy to open the scrolls. God did not have to come, and
put love on the line, walk as a man, limit himself, die at our hands, and forgive. To us
if we had this power, no one would dare touch us, but God chose the opposite of our
way, and chose the humblest path, and served and saved us. He is worthy of
everything.

I say that the law is a shadow of the real substance which is Christ. The Jewish lawyer asked the Lord "What is the greatest commandment in the Law"

Jesus gave him the answer according to the law of Moses. No one can fulfill these commandments - only Christ Himself has loved the Lord His God with all His heart, soul and mind and loved others. He has fulfilled these commandments and thus fulfilled the Law of Moses.

We are in Him and by us being crucified on the cross with Jesus and being resurrected to being a new creation in Christ. Now, Christ lives in us and His life is what is bearing fruit in and through us.

His life in us will love the Lord our God and love others now that the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Rom. 5:5

We do not try to keep the law of Moses - instead we behold the glory of the Lord as in a mirror and we are transformed by the Holy Spirit. There is no more "oldness of the letter" in following the law of Moses. We serve in newness of the spirit now.

Romans 7:6 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.

A true Christian filled with Christ in them would never even have to even know about the law of Moses and they would be fulfilling this commandment because Christ is in them and His life would be manifesting as the person kept their eyes on Christ.

( reading the law is a good thing as we can see how Christ has fulfilled it all for us and we can see Christ in every part of the law from the silver footings in the tabernacle to the shedding of the lamb's blood. - so we don't throw out the law - we just look at it to see Christ now. )

An interesting question? Is there a greater ethic than to love God and love your neighbour?
Loving your enemy as well, and loving your brother and sister in Christ as Christ loved the church?

It is an extension of the same goal.

I suspect those who find love hard, and openness and emotions, will not see the wonder of this
foundation. The cross just amplifies it even more.

Now for closed down people where this is all theology and religion, it is almost meaningless.
When I was younger I did not believe in my soul I could be loved, though I knew the words Jesus
loved me, the reality was far from me. Now today, I understand it, and know I am loved.

It is the most wonderful thing anyone can experience. It changes everything.

If you find yourself rejecting these ideas, it is because pain and hurt still dwell deeply in your soul.
Love is the well spring of Christ, and where the Holy Spirit dwells. It is pure, holy, righteous,
just, true, faithful, caring yet uncompromising.

This thread said nothing about doing anything perfectly, it simply asked if this is still valid. And yes, unless we abide in Him we can do nothing.

Thank you for this post, I enjoyed it!

1 John 4:19-21, “We love Him because He first loved us. If someone says, “I love Yah,” and hates his brother, he is a liar. For the one not loving his brother whom he has seen, how is he able to love Yah whom he has not seen? And we have this command from Him, that the one loving Yah should love his brother too.”

So if He lives within us, do His words/Teachings also live within us? and is this one of those that does or does not?

If you want His "teachings" look in the NT.

That's what the Law says, though, right? The law doesn't say just do your best. The law doesn't say its ok if you can't follow it the way it was designed to be followed. The law is perfect and holy and it demands perfection and holiness.

Why try to teach something and not even know what it is saying?

The Law of the Most High has mercy written into it.

So do the Messiah words here apply to the NT Christian or not?
They apply in the way I said they did. We live by the life of Christ now - not an outward keeping of the law of Moses.

They apply to our life by beholding the glory of the Lord as in a mirror and the Holy Spirit transforms us. I never think about keeping these commandments. I keep my eyes on Christ and His life in me lives in and through me to love both the Father and others more than I ever thought possible.

Colossians 3:1-4 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

[SUP]2 [/SUP] Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth
.
[SUP]3 [/SUP] For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

[SUP]4 [/SUP] When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

As I have received Christ - this is the same way I walk in Him. Depending on His grace and life totally. The law of Moses never even enters my mind.

Colossians 2:6 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,
