What does it take to get into heaven? 8i know Jesus said believe and me and repent and you shall be saved, but what does it mean to repent? Do we have to completely stop sinning? I thought that was impossible because humans are naturally wicked

Repentance is to turn away from your sins & not to go back to them. As the scriptures states in 2 Chronicles 7:14 - if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. As well as in Romans 12:2 - Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

simply believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ 1 Cor 15: 1-4 (KJV)

"1. Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4. And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

Again a discussion around what is 'repentance' at eternal salvation.

The only requirement of salvation is believing in Jesus Christ as God that He has paid for your sin and gives eternal life to whoever believes.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Believe

This isn't doing actions to turn from ungodly ways.. but receiving Jesus' gift of eternal life. This is eternal salvation ALL from Jesus.. not from the person changing their ways. Believing He can deliver you eternally.. not trusting yourself to turn from ungodly ways.

Repent-- doesn't mean do works.. but is a 'change of mind, heart'.. driven by Jesus Christ.

The person is converted.. then they have the Holy Spirit inside their soul.. they can STILL sin.. but the Holy Spirit will quicken them to turn to Him and flee sin. He will discipline, love, rebuke, teach, lead, guide them through His Word and conviction.

It is impossible to be perfect.. saved or no. Only God, as Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit can ever be.

So eternal salvation is given someone as they are. They only believe and are converted. Not by works. Doing actions to turn from sin doesn't give eternal life.. knowing that you can't turn from sin under your own effort and accepting Jesus' sacrifice for you does.

(John 5:24) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

If people do not repent, which is to turn from their sins and ask for forgiveness for their sins they will be judged including you.

Repent-- happens at being given eternal life.. people do turn from their sins to ask for forgiveness at salvation.. but it isn't a work or ongoing action.. it's a 'change of mind, heart'.. worked by the Holy Spirit and not the person under their own effort.

There will be fruit from this conversion.. that is the result of the having the Holy Spirit in the person's soul.

This doesn't mean though, they will then live continuously faithful to Christ.. some people do after conversion.. some falter.

So the eternal salvation in the first place isn't to do with this ongoing faithfulness.. but Jesus' payment for their sins and indwelling through the Holy Spirit.

So, you have ripped the Book of James out of your Bible?

What you just described is entry level... but there is more to getting to Heaven than "easy believeism"

Unless one is OSAS then by all means utter a "sinners prayer" and then live for self and see where ya end up.

If one is not a doer of the Word, they deceive themselves... which is sad cause they can't even blame the devil for that.

I prayerfully commit this teaching on James to you and ask that you do read it, it isn't long, it'll take all of about 5 minutes to read). Eternal salvation isn't about acts. It's about faith.

Being justified by works is not inconsistent with being justified by faith. The latter is the cause, bringing forth the former; the former is the effect, the outcome and proof, of the latter.

True,If a man has faith,he will seek to do physically what Is true Inwardly,but GOD Is a Spirit and does not need to see physical proof,man wants to see physical proof.
GOD looks at the heart,man looks at the outward appearances.

Romans 4:1-2
King James version(KJV)

1.)What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

2.)For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

you have to answer three questions, one of which is your favorite color... better get it right, you don't want to see what happens when you get it wrong....

The bible talks about the narrow path, which I believe leads to salvation. If just saying the sinners prayer gets us saved then the path wouldn't be narrow. How many people have said the sinners prayer and never a day in their life live as a Christian.

Sure they think about Jesus and know of Jesus but they don't know Jesus. My wife and I were talking about this last night actually. My example was with my real mother. She left me and my sister at a young age and I have never known her. I know of her but I don't have a personal relationship with her. This is the same with a lot of Christians and God. They know of Him but they don't truly know Him.

The Lord doesn't ask that much of us. There is no need to continue in our sin.
