Any answer given to the question posed in the OP is pure speculation.........nothing more.
Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Jesus is our Creator, and there since day 1.

Adam was created , tselem Elohim (to the image of God) from the dust of the earth. Before he was created Adam was not. Before we were created, tselem Elohim we were not.

I believe it is safe to say before we were created we were nothing, we all are part of God's plan because He knew us before were born but He is God :)

Where were we before we were born?

I reckon that would depend upon how you defined born.

In the sea of O beyond Jordan.

One day I was watching a marching band and
the next thing I know I am encapsulated in star dust and sliding down some slip and slide and unfortunately I am not at liberty to divulge any more information on this subject due to the sensitive nature regarding the issue on whether O is a letter or a number.
:D

Another possibility is that I was here.

God created us to worship and love him at the beginning. Then there came Satan who wanted us to worship and love him. This happened in the first earth age. We now happen to be in the 2nd earth age and a third to com. You can read of this in the 1st book of Peter I think it is. Check this out (https://compellingtruth.org/one-third-angels.html) to better understand where we were.

I knew that all of us—, you, me, your family, friends, neighbors, every one of us—are actually together forever.
All experiences like this need a reason or a conclusion.
If the conclusion is wrong, or contradictatory you have to break down what the experience
actually was.

A figure called itself Peter. There was a sense of elation, oneness. A feeling of filling space,
light. So lots of emotion and senses, but almost no content or discussion or illumination of
existance and its issues.

So its authority or reference is missing.

This is universalism in interpretation. And in the end, so what?

To those who do not believe reading the bible is a spiritual experience, but only mystical
encounters with no content are real, this is wow. But for believers, get a life.

As a mother I have often wondered about all the eggs a woman carries that never become a human. Then I think about my 3 children and realize they have always been with me and everywhere I have been, and one day those three eggs became humans. I believe at the moment of fertilization they became a soul spirit and body.

JOHN 3:13.
And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but He that came down from heaven,
even the Son of man which is in heaven.

That is interesting and as well that women are born with all the eggs within the ovaries for Her whole life.

Where were we before we were born?.

1Pet1:17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
Heb11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Yer1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations
Eph1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love

The scriptures above lead us to believe that we surely be in the eternal realm with God, before He sent us/created to live in this perishable world.

In what state? In the zero state = without knowledge and without any ability = not know about good and bad.

Why should be sent to this perishable world ?, to reach a full state ( only in this perishable world have possibility in growing or there is no growth in the eternal realm).

Heb5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat

God Planed us to have progress in growth (zero state to full state---> understood Mat13:23 , winner Rev3:5) unless we cannot bring glory to God (the purpose of creation).
Isa43:7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

So before the foundation of the world, there were: Adam, eve, Abel, Seth,……….,Noah,………, Abraham,Isaac, Jacob, …………., last name in the book of life.

They should be sent to this perishable world one by one through multiplication mechanism /placing the appropriate spirit in the womb of a woman to be born/ born of God /God’s people(John1:12-13, Rom9:8 ) known as sojourn, wander ,a stranger in this planet.
Finally the winners being moved to NHNE.

I have been thinking about the scripture that says that before we were born God knew us. The scriptures also say that God is the Father of spirits - of which that is part of our make-up. The essence of who we are.

What are other's thoughts on this subject? Do we originally come from the Father to begin with? How does the spirit of man come into being with conception physically?

This could be one of those things that is fuzzy in scripture and there are secret things that do belong to the Lord. It also could be that our un-renewed mind can't handle the reality of this too. I don't know - just asking the questions to see what others think. We all can learn from each other.
For the soul that sins, it shall die but fear not them that kill the body but are not able to kill the soul but rather fear he who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell, as the flesh shall return to the earth as it was and the spirit goes back to God who gave it, that all spirits might face the judgment of the spirits.

We are not born fully equipped, but develop over time just as the ova do. The life of the flesh is in the blood. Bones are made from blood. Skin is made from blood. Teeth are made from blood. Milk is made from blood! Then Jesus tells us that the flesh counts for nothing.

God knows the end from the beginning.

Man is tripartite; body, soul and spirit. His body comes from his parents, his spirit comes from God, and his soul, i.e., himself, is the result of this union of body and spirit, a new individual without experience of any kind, but good because made by God Himself. Man is a soul, he possesses a spirit and a body, the former whereby he can contact the spirit world, and the latter with which to enter and appreciate the material world. The soul, if it loses its body, is dead to this world; if it loses its spirit, it is dead to God and the Heavenly world. If it loses both, it is dead to both worlds, conscious only of the isolation and hopeless darkness of death. Gen 2v7—margin "lives," Num 16v22, Isaiah 57v16, Eccl 12v7, I Thess 5v23, Matt 11v11, Heb 4v12, John 3v6, I Cor 2v10-16, Job 10v21-22, Heb 2v15, Luke 12v5.

God, because He is omniscient, from before the foundation of the world knew ALL about EVERY individual that He would create, every thought they would think, every motive and every deed they would do, God knew from before the foundation of the world. Psalm 139 (all).

I recall in 2012 at a visiting church, the associate Pastor stated that he believes we once walked with God in Heaven.

JESUS told us that He was the only One Who had been to heaven.
