According to Our Savior Lord Jesus Christ, every born again Christian is found in one of these seven churches in the book of Revelation. Jesus says I no your deeds. It appears five out of every seven Christians will not be "Raptured. Your thoughts.

Revelation 1 - Revelation 2 - Revelation 3

1) Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7) - the church that had forsaken its first love (2:4).

(2) Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11) - the church that would suffer persecution (2:10).

(3) Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17) - the church that needed to repent (2:16).

(4) Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29) - the church that had a false prophetess (2:20).

(5) Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6) - the church that had fallen asleep (3:2).

(6) Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13) - the church that had endured patiently (3:10).

(7) Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22) - the church with the lukewarm faith (3:16).

All of these churches will have some if not all saved individuals in them with the possible exception of Laodicea. The next worst church was told that there would be a few of Gods children coming from it. They were also warned to change and may have. These were churches in John's time, and some have continued until now with different names and others have retained their identity.

Matthew 25:1-13 King James Version (KJV)

25 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

[SUP]
2 [/SUP]And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

[SUP]
3 [/SUP]They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

[SUP]
4 [/SUP]But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

[SUP]
5 [/SUP]While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

[SUP]
6 [/SUP]And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

[SUP]
7 [/SUP]Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

[SUP]
8[/SUP]And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
[SUP]

9 [/SUP]But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

[SUP]
10 [/SUP]And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

[SUP]
11 [/SUP]Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

[SUP]
12 [/SUP]But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

[SUP]
13 [/SUP]Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Five of the virgins were religious, they thought they were saved. Millions presently are in the Church, but not in Christ.

MessageOfTheCross,

I think the whole issue that Breno is pointing out, is that you are making a "specific claim" that is NOT "specifically said" in the text.

If you simply read Revelation Chapter 2-3, it just does NOT state "every believer is in one of these churches".

That just isn't in the text.

* There are preachers who say something like, "These 7 churches seem to match up to 7 different spiritual states a believer, or a local church, can be in."

* There are preachers who say something like, "These 7 churches seem to be similar to different periods of church history in the past."

There are all kinds of things you can read into the text, which may, or may not, be there.

However, you made a DEFINITIVE STATEMENT that the text says CLEARLY & DEFINITELY something it simply does not say.

If you read Revelation Chapter 2-3, it simply does NOT say "every born again believer is found in one of these seven churches."

Those words aren't in those chapters.

That's a very good question, imo it's what the individual sees in his heart. David asked the Lord to search him for any wicked ways in him. We must do the same.
Have you lost your first love? Do you think you've arrived and in need of nothing? Etc etc
Imo it speaks to the individual...we must be open and true to the Lord.

It's not an individual thing but rather a time period. We are in the Laodicean Church Age. The body of Christ as a whole is lukewarm.

There is also in every one of those churches those that are not born again just like there is in our churches today. Some times the writers in the books are speaking to those that are amongst them that are not "in Christ" yet.

Like Paul in Corinthians where he says to "examine yourself to see of you are in the faith". Jesus also in the letters to the churches in Revelation is sometimes speaking to the ones in the church that are not "in Him" yet.

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock - if any man opens - I will come in to him"

In Acts there were groups trying to "join themselves" to the Christians. The word for "associate" means to "join oneself to".

Acts 5:13 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] But none of the rest dared to associate with them; however, the people held them in high esteem.

The wording of the five foolish virgins in our text is all too familiar to the reader of Matthew’s Gospel:

Matthew 25:11 - "Later, the other virgins came too, saying, ‘Lord, Lord! Let us in!’ 12 But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I do not know you!"

Matthew 7:21 - "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven" but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. John 6:40 - For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day). 22 On that day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons and do many powerful works?’ 23 Then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you. Go away from me, you who work iniquity!’

The difference between the foolish virgins and the wise virgins: The wise virgins had oil for their lamps, while the foolish virgins did not. The wise virgins had the opportunity to obtain oil, and did so. The foolish virgins had plenty of opportunity to procure oil, but did not.

It is possible to be in close contact with Christ, and with Christians, and yet not be saved. I am reminded of a similar passage in the Gospel of Luke:

Luke 13:23 - Someone asked him, "Lord, will only a few be saved?" So he said to them, 24 "Exert every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. 25 Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, then you will stand outside and start to knock on the door and beg him, ‘Lord, let us in!’ But he will answer you, ‘I don’t know where you come from.’ 26 Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’ 27 But he will reply, ‘I don’t know where you come from! Go away from me, all you workers of iniquity/evil doers!’ 28 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God but you yourselves thrown out.

I agree with a little of what's being said but did you notice the letters are written to the churches not the pastor or elders of the church but to the church. If there were still un converted with in the assembly this was not adressed to them. Jesus is talking to his own.

You do know that these are seven churches that existed in Asia Minor when John was inspired to write the chapters under examination?

To make correct application of the chapters one must first arrive at the correct interpretation. Knowledge then understanding which leads to wisdom.

Why the rush to go figurative and prophetic before you get the literal understanding?

I understand - I heard that in my church upbringing that is only talking about believers but I don't buy it because of the things said in some churches about those people - it is not describing believers IMO.

It seems to me that Jesus is speaking to the "angel" "messenger" of the specific church about some people in those groups and it seems in some cases by the Greek "singular" language being used - He is speaking directly to the "angel/messenger" of a specific church.

Personally I believe Jesus is speaking about both groups of people ( believers and unbelievers ) that make up most church assemblies.

Revelation 2:1 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] "To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: The One who holds the seven stars in His right hand, the One who walks among the seven golden lampstands, says this:

Revelation 2:8 (NASB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] "And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: The first and the last, who was dead, and has come to life, says this:

Again the confusion with the popular teaching of every believer being 'the church'

The body of Christ is a LOCAL body. It ain't every believer.

Every believer will one day be one church in heaven.. but that is 'yet future'

(Sigh!)

Who are the ten "virgins?"
Why did the Holy Spirit say five were wise and five were foolish?
What does the "lamps" represent?
What does the oil represent?
What does Eph. 5:18 mean?
Does the oil need to be refilled?
