The word “Grace” is from the Greek word “Charis”—meaning, graciousness of manner or act. In order words, it means kindness or favor. Secondly, it also means the divine influence upon the heart; and its reflection in the life of an individual.

In the context which Grace is used in the scriptures, Grace can be defined to mean:

1. The Unmerited (or undeserved) kindness or favor of God on mankind.
2. The supernatural influence or empowerment of God on mankind.

And it is in the context of these two definitions of Grace above, that we shall be discussing scripturally, the actual works of God’s Grace in the life of a man (including women)...

As we begin to discuss about the works of grace, it is important for us to understand that since the beginning, and through the Laws and the prophets (The Old Testament era), God’s dealings with mankind, has been on the basis of Grace.

For instance, God dealt with Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob etc... On the basis of grace.

But since the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his grace has been made available to everyone. The birth, death and resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ, ratified the new covenant of God’s grace to all mankind. Hence, the bible says the Law was given by Moses, while grace and truth came through Jesus Christ (see John 1:).

Before enumerating the works of Grace in the life of a man, it is important that I emphasize that Jesus and Jesus only, is the source of Grace. And if you must partake of the benefits and tenets of the new covenant of God’s Grace, you must be a “hearty” believer in Jesus Christ, the atonement of his blood and his words (teachings).

Having established the above truth, we now begin to discuss the actual works of the Spirit of Grace (which is the Holy Spirit from Jesus Christ)...

So What Are The Works of Grace?

The works of Grace which our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ does in the lives of mankind-- through his Holy Spirit (The Spirit of Grace) are, but not limited to the following:

1. Eternal Salvation: Titus 2:11 says; “The Grace of God that bringeth Salvation has appeared to all men”. It is through the sovereign kindness of God by our faith in Jesus Christ, that we secure our eternal salvation. It is the grace of God that influences a sinner to believe whole-heartedly in Christ Jesus.

Without this work of Grace in the heart of a sinner (that makes the sinner repent and give his heart to Jesus), we can preach and teach all we want, but a sinner will never be saved.

Hence, the Lord says, except the father draws someone, no one can come to him...
2. Sanctification: Titus 2:12 says, the grace of God teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts and that we should live sensibly, righteously, godly in this present world.

So anyone who lives freely in ungodliness and worldly lusts and claims to be under grace, is a deceiver and also a self-deceiver. Grace works righteousness and godliness in the life of a believer.

Grace empowers the believer to forbid sin. Grace empowers a believer to live above sin. Grace does not only empower a believer to keep the Laws of God, it empowers the believer to fulfill them; as they walk in the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

And if we keep the commandments of God through the empowerment and leadership of the Holy Ghost, the bible says, we are not under the Law (Galatians 5:18).

3. Forgiveness and Repentance: The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, qualifies us to receive forgiveness and repentance of sin. As we walk with the Lord- by walking under the leadership of his Spirit, when we err, it is grace that gives us the boldness to go to God to receive forgiveness. And as we receive forgiveness from God, he empowers us by his Spirit not to go back to the sin anymore.

Hence, the Bible says, we should come boldly unto the thrown of grace to receive mercy (or forgiveness) and find strength to help in times of need (see Hebrews 4:16).

Grace works penitence and repentance from sin; and finally crowns it with divine peace as an assurance of forgiveness. Sometimes, the order can be reversed. That is, the assurance of forgiveness can come before the penitence and repentance.

But either way, one cannot come without the other. True forgiveness and repentance goes hand in glove. Hence, grace does not say, “I forgive you, go and continue in your sin”. But rather, grace says, “neither do I condemn you, I forgive you, go and sin no more (repent)” – John 8:11.

4. Love: Among several other things that the grace of God works in us, it supernaturally empowers us to fulfill the Royal Law of God, which is-- loving our neighbors as ourselves (James 2:8).

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, floods our hearts with divine love, making us feel like babies before God. His divine love in our hearts, through his Holy Spirit, makes us cry Abba Father to him that loves us (Romans 8: 15; Galatians 4:6).

Hence, the grace of God gives us the spirit of sonship. And this spirit of sonship in our hearts, floods our hearts with God’s Love. Thereby, making us love him intimately; and consequently, we extend this love to others. And by so doing, we fulfill the Royal Law or keep his commandments (1John 4:19; John 14:15).

May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you forever and ever, in Jesus Name!

Remain Blessed!

Yes,the law came by Moses but GRACE and TRUTH came by JESUS.

Under law they were purifying the outward man but they could not clean the Inward man.The law showed them their errant ways but they(the children of Israel)were not acceptable to GOD because they were clean Inside only temporarily

When JESUS came,HE magnified the law from just outward purification to the TRUTH Inwardly(once and forever)and HE gave those who would believe In the WORD of GOD access to GRACE through FAITH.

what is the new covenant and who is it with? also, item 4, the royal laws is more then "lover your neighbor as yourself.... its love Yahweh with all your heart mind and strength, AND love your neighbor as yourself, "on these 2 commands hang all the law and the prophets" so the royal law is much more......

Salvation is the gift of God. Grace by which salvation "is supplied" and faith through which "grace is received", are all the gift of God.

Forget or lose sight of any of this - and we end up in some kind of a works-based salvation mindset that nullifies that very grace from operating in our lives that is there to change us. Without Him and what He has already done for us - we can do nothing.

So are you saying should have included that the only way you can even love God fully is by His grace?

The New Covenant is with God's people both New and gentile both

I see you're a grace-only person. Not a single statement about faith.

We have thousands of posts about grace & how grace does it all, & NEXT TO NOTHING ABOUT FAITH.

NOTHING is posted about how christians are save by grace THROUGH FAITH.

Guess what? If you're not saved through faith with grace, YOU'RE NOT SAVED AT ALL.

1John 5:1Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. 2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. 3For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. 4For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

Romans 1:16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.”

Heb 10:38BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM.
39But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.

Then there's ch 11 of Hebrews..... a WHOLE CHAPTER! Yet the grace-onlys won't touch it.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.

Ephesians 2:4-10 (NASB)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

[SUP]5 [/SUP] even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

[SUP]6 [/SUP] and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

[SUP]7 [/SUP] so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

[SUP]8 [/SUP] For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;

[SUP]9 [/SUP] not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

[SUP]10 [/SUP] For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

The life of Christ in us will manifest in good works as we access His grace by faith in what Christ has already done for us. It all starts and ends by grace and we access this by "believing" in what He says is true.

Then it needs to be properly balanced, not lopsided..... and accurate.

Jesus is NOT the only source of grace..... simply not true. ALL of the Godhead shows abundant grace & mercy.

The Bible says we ought to accurately handle the Word of Truth, wherever we're at..... church, home work, or chat site.:)

This is good example of not balancing the truth.

"Grace is realized through Jesus Christ" (John 1:17); the "grace of God was given to us in Christ Jesus” (1 Cor. 1:4); "The grace of God has appeared (in Jesus Christ), bringing salvation to all men" (Titus 2:11).

"through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:2

Amen...Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Of course our loving Father has grace and the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of grace. We can't have one without the other. It's like trying to have the water without the wet.

2 Timothy 2:1 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Our hearts become strengthened by grace.

Hebrews 13:8-9 (NASB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

[SUP]9 [/SUP] Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited.

We are to base our hope completely on the grace that comes to us with the revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 1:13
[SUP]13 [/SUP] Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit,
fix your hope completely on the grace being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

See? It's all about grace to them, for they believe once you "accept Christ", it's all a done deal & nothing else is needed.

You can't please God without active faith.(Heb 11:6)

Grace brings salvation before us, to be accepted. Faith is the ONLY means by which man can accept God's gift of salvation.

God has given to every man the measure of faith, yes to every sinner. Since the analogy of a gift is used, we are to follow the prerequisites of gift giving:

  • To be a gift, it has to be freely given, otherwise it's not a gift, but earned.
  • Before someone can enjoy the gift, it must be accepted, taken by the other party. This is done by faith. Man has the ability to grasp, to accept salvation ONLY through faith. Since faith is ALSO a gift, man doesn't accept Christ by his own ability.
  • For that gift to continue to be ours, we have to keep it. It's no longer ours when we give it away, or sell it, or the enemy steals it.(Parable of the sower) This is why the scripture says through faith..... obtained AND kept through faith. It is the christian's responsibility to keep his faith active & growing, not God's.
  • NO ONE CAN BE FORCED TO TAKE OR KEEP A GIFT. It is the choice of the recipient whether to keep the gift or not. God created man with the ability to choose & He never stripped that from him. Men have faith taken away when they abuse the grace of God continually, rebelliously. This is what the "falling away" of the church is about. When one "falls away" from the faith, they can be turned over to a reprobate mind, never able to believe in Christ again. They still have choice, & make choices, but never more to believe things God's way. They will believe ANYTHING but the TRUTH.

2Tim 4:1I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort,(the church) with great patience and instruction. 3For the time will come when they(christians) will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. 5But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Whooooooaaa there..... Nobody knows how the conversation in Heaven transpired of how Jesus gave Himself for the sins of the world. But we know the trinity is in perfect agreement on ANYTHING that comes from the throne to man. To say Jesus is the only source of grace would be blasphemy.

We also know that God the Father so loved the world, that HE GAVE grace by giving His only Son, the Son's grace to give of Himself, & the Spirit's grace to give into Mary the Seed to bring forth the Only Begotten Son of God & empower Him throughout His ministry.

You believe grace-only, & don't believe the Father & the Holy Ghost give grace?!? You're impossible.

Dude, Jesus IS God. It's "God's" grace. You're being ridiculous.
