Kind of tired of the three gifts always debated on here are tongues, prophecy, or healing. How about the other gifts? How about the gift of helping? How about administrative?

Anyone want to debate that one to death too?

[h=1]1 Corinthians 12:28English Standard Version (ESV)[/h]28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.

Wouldn't it be great if 90% of the work wasn't left for 10% of the church to accomplish?

For the cause of Christ

But the greatest among all these is the gift of love for love fulfills all of the others gifts.
prophecy and healing and tongues while amazing when used correctly cannot ever begin to compare the gift of a loving humble servant.
What I treasure more than the gift of healing or prophecy tongue or any other gift is a heart of a loving and humble servant, I find it far more honorable to be a lowly servant who always thinks of others never himself and finds utter joy in serving because love compels him to do so.
I learned what true humbleness is by looking at Jesus, he knew who he was he knew he was God almight that he was the king of all kings and that if anything we should be serving him not even looking up at his face and yet even knowing who he was he lowered himself to serve us.

Now can you imagine a king so exalted to high so clean and glorious whose name alone makes the spine tremble and yet lowering himself even lower than us in our state of filth and sin if we are the worms of the earth he was the dirt. This is why and how I came to truly desire a heart of a loving and humble servant I wanted to not just know believe and live as the royalty he says I am (which i have yet to be able to do) but I wanted to lower myself lower than the worst of all sinners and the most evil and blood stained souls knowing who i was yet serving and living as if even the worst of all sinners in this world was several ranks above me.

Love is what compels me to do this and love is what taught me what true humbleness is and this is why above all other gifts I seek love and above all titles like prophet teacher healer apostle the only title I truly hold precious is servant

Actually, I am not sure what Paul meant by the "gift of helping" and how it differs from common Christian helping.

Helpings.

I have the gift of helpings.

When someone passes the mashed potatoes, I feel the spirit move in me, and I take many helpings.

res,
what you just said, I can't make hide nor hair out of it...I must have missed your point...

first, when you are called,.,.we can be appointed to be whatever Jesus needs us to be at this time,
there's lots for Him to choose from, but we're put where He wants us,,, after we totally surrender
our own will over to Him, God The Father, Jesus Christ, He becomes our Master/Leader,
we His followers and doers and ETC,.,. yes, it is definitely a choice, but it is one that we both
cannot imagine even comtemplating...

If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
Romans 12:8 NLT

I have the gift of encouragement, I love encouraging and seeing the best in others...worst part of it is I find it incredibly difficult to encourage myself.

breno,
so many of us here, where Jesus has put us, can read your precious Spirit so clearly...
all of us who love you, sincerely pray that Jesus will show you who you really are...soon, -
same as many others...we are giving it our all in prayer and asking for assurance and
the gift of even more Faith...

you must always trust whom Jesus tells you to, like I asked Lynn=depleted, to trust us,
it truly is an act of real Faith, to believe and trust in another in any arena in this fallen-world.

My wife and I served in the helps ministry at our church for 3yrs or so....what a blessing.

Many needs for meals, moving, babysitting, house sitting, yard chores, visit the shut ins, to many to mention.

(I can't believe I'm responding to a drop dead gorgeous chick).....wow...

If you see woman bringing in a car load of groceries with toddlers at wandering about, you help her bring in the groceries. If you have the gift of help you also make sure she has sometime to herself, and aid if she doesn't.

Yeah, we see an easy-to-deal-with problem and help. The gift is seeing the whole picture and continuing to help long-term.

It's not healthy for people to sit around boasting about their gifts. Rather than joining them, I chose to simply to say, "I have no gifts," when asked what my gifts were. I sing in my church choir, but singing isn't one of the gifts Paul mentions, is it?

Edify! It really really means something. And it is done through our gifts not boasting about them. And yet you still insist on not knowing how God gifted you? Kind of like not opening your Christmas gifts but complaining when others open theirs that you got none.

Seriously, dude. God gave you a gift. He probably gave you more than one. Open it up and find out what it is. I can guarantee it's a good'n and seriously needed for your church and on here!

I got help, administrative, and encourage. Does this really sound like a boast? Most people don't even know what the first two are, and don't believe me on the third. ROFL

I know just how you feel buddy, I am one who loves to encourage when i see a person who was broken suddenly have light their eyes or when people are inspired by the word of comfort and encouragement and that spark is clearly seen in them I tell you I have yet to find anything in this world that gives me greater joy. But like you encouraging myself is by far more difficult.

I don't boast of any gifts I have because they are not my own they are gifts meaning given to me but I have noticed how God often times operates through them day to day, I am known even by my atheist friends to be uncommonly and abnormally kind and generous I am known to give even when it hurts me financially and I whenever i see someone in need of help no matter how small instinctively act my body just moves on it's own.

But I also am well known for not helping myself and I sometimes end wearing myself out forgetting to rest and do good for myself a lot of times I don't have enough money to make it through the month many times I am just so tired inside and out and the phrase you can't help others unless you help yourself rings true for me.

simply having a gift is one thing operating through it correctly well... that takes some practice lol

Besides, what fun would you have if you didn't have something to disagree with me about?

I can fall asleep but it's staying asleep that I can't do, I think my gift is lacking sleep 24/7
