Actually, no it's not. Satan can & has declared or quoted God's word.

To prophesy is to speak for God, when God sends it.

Anointed preaching is indeed prophesying, but those hirelings that preach off the internet & outta books are not.

Amos 8 prophesied to Israel of a famine of the words of the Lord. They would go into captivity & not hear from God.

The 400+ years before John the Baptist was a spiritual famine, with no prophets at all.

Now in the falling away, there's a new famine of hearing the words of the Lord..... false teachers & prophets leading christians astray by the millions because they had no respect for & belittled God's Word. They walk in ignorance purposely, being baby christians & nothing more.

When the time came when they ought to be teachers, they have need again to be taught the first principles.

Now they're getting their just due..... being turned over to a reprobate mind, while still believing they're going to Heaven.

Anointed preachers are still out there, but few want to hear them. Now they are criticized & accused of liberal intolerance.
very good post man.

I would add just one quick thought to this really informative and accurate post. true Prophecy will never ever evvver part from the testimony of Jesus ( the Gospel) meaning if it parts from the principles He taught such as forgiving others, repentance, not judging another, and self sacrificial Love principles.

false prophets and teachers are so many it makes a persons Head spins, popularity and personal Gain two of the most popular motives. and i think alot of christians dont understand how very, very important what we take in and accept really is to our Lives....we fell by a lie, and are saved by the truth. bot came by words that were believed.

I haven't decided yet on which side of the fence I will land. Half of Bible teachers say that inspired preaching is prophecy and the other half say it is not.

Last night I had an insight on how to demonstrate that PROPHECY probably includes PREACHING: In 1 COR 14 Paul addresses church discipline: "Two or three may speak in tongues, and two or three may prophesy". But what about preaching sermons? Did Paul forget to give instructions about preaching the word of God? I don't believe so because the sermon is the most important part of the meeting. Paul could not have forgotten to establish rules about sermons and this is the reason why I believe that PREACHING SERMONS is included in LET TWO OR THREE PROPHETS SPEAK (1 COR 14:29).
its interesting that to my Knowledge there is not a single verse saying otherwise. than the prophets taking turns sharing the word as your comment shows.

I saw your question about women prophesying, I am convinced that there are many women who have far more annointed and authorized messages than many men out there, and Paul does say " I do not permit a woman to teach" but He also teaches morethan Once that in Christ there is no difference in men and women, as eve was made from adams flesh, after that man is born of womens flesh. I would listen and learn from anyone Male , female, black, white, one eye, two eyes as Long as what they are offering is Good sound doctrine. Jesus sure didnt favor men over women Mary was the first person to report to Believers His resurrection. and many women supported His ministry financially, and also many women were following Him on His walk to the cross while the men scattered and Hid.

I think that paul is speaking from Himslef on that one being a former pharisee a few times in His epistles he says " I say this, not the Lord"

That's not Gospel. That's Law.

Gospel, and Prophecy, is what The Lord Jesus Christ has done and what He will do. Not the requirements that people think they have to perform.

Do you really think that the Testimony of Jesus Christ means memorizing what He has said in the bible? The words in red?

I'm starting to think that it is impossible to teach without the gift of Prophecy or the ministry of Prophecy or whatever you want to call it.

And its starting to seem like it is impossible to understand without having, for your own self, the Testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. What He has personally done for YOU.

I suppose these should be first principles. Our inability and His Ability.

Many teachers say that PREACHING IS NOT PROPHESYING.
What they say is unquestionable if we consider pastors who deliver microwave sermons, for example. But I don't think this is what God intends preachers to do; I think preachers are supposed to seek God's guidance in every way, specially with respect to the topic of the sermon. Only God knows the hearts of everyone and He knows what we need to hear.

If we preach according to God's guidance we are actually prophesying. I attend a rather fundamentalist church and they permit women to deliver the sermon when no male preacher has received any revelation from God on what to preach. If their policy is biblically right, this would mean that women can preach (prophesy = preach).
I was wondering where you stood on this issue. Good to know.

When a prophet prophesies and uses the words 'I' or 'Me', those words may be referring to the LORD.

Jeremiah 19
14 Then came Jeremiah from Tophet, whither the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the Lord's house; and said to all the people,
15 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

Ezekiel 37
4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.
5 Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:
6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

The spirit of prophesy resides in anyone who knows Jesus Christ is Lord and God. No man can nçknow Jesus Christ is Lord unless it has been revealed by the Holy Spirit.

Therefore any who know Jesus Christ is Lord and witnesses to it has learned by the Holy Spirit and is indwelled by the Spirit of prophesy.........

Paul wanted all Christians to prophesy because the one who prophesies builds up the church. What was he mainly talking about? Prediction of future events; revelation of unknown information; or preaching, teaching and exhorting?
The word prophecy means to speak. Many people say things but don’t realize they are prophesying. A night show comic made a statement that my be truer than he realized. You may remember it. He said “If the Rolf Ed’s tomorrow, Trump will be a one term president.” So he more or less was prophecying.

The word prophecy means to speak..
It means much more than that. Anyone can speak, but prophets spoke and wrote by DIVINE INSPIRATION. Big difference. And to answer the OP, prophecy in NOT preaching and teaching, since evangelists, pastors and teachers are not prophets (but the apostles were). Please note very carefully (2 Pet 1:21).

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

To be moved by the Holy Ghost is to be "borne along" by the Holy Spirit -- a supernautral action of God which ensured that the prophet spoke only the words given to him by God, not his own ideas -- "not by the will of man". It is trully amazing how much confusion there is about these matters.

You are talking about the HolyGhost wanting them to speak a certain thing. It’s still speaking. Just as men of were moved on to write it was still writing but Holy Ghost inspired. A preacher may be preaching a message when the Holy Ghost moves on him to take a different direction.

In reference to the first King in the flesh of Israel, Saul, he was taken over once by the Holy Spirit and he prophesied with the propphets.

Prophesying is not simply predicting what is going to occur within our Father's will, in Revelation we are taught that anyone giving testimony of Jesus christ, that is witnessing Him, does so due to the spirit of propphesy, so yes, preaching is prophesy.

We all praise God and give Him glory, this too is prophesy.......praise God, amen.

It is not revelation of unknown information- that no longer exists. The reason we no longer have prophets today like Elijah or Samual, is because we now have the complete Word of God- everything that He wants to tell us. The gift of prophesy today is the ability to tell in your own words what the Bible already says- to elaborate and use different angles and parables to better the people’s understanding of the meaning that already exists in the Bible.

That is still NOT prophecy. Prophecy means "THUS SAITH THE LORD" not "Here is how I interpret Scripture". Please study the prophets from Isaiah to Malachi, and also the Torah (since Moses was the primary prophet of Israel).

i believe it entails all of those things. Mostly speaking with understanding the things of God which others may not understand. "the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" the testimony of Jesus would be what Jesus said what He testified to in His ministry. He was speaking of things No one else understood. things that were always written but no One understood the truth of those things. we saw through mans understanding, Gods Word. Jesus Gave Gods understanding of His Word.

to look at things from the Gospel, through Jesus testimony will always lea to understanding of things before and after. though we find it placed in the middle of the Bible, it is Both the first and Last the eternal word of God. prophecy fathoms mysteries, sees truth. Jesus spoke of things behind and things that were current, and things to come in His testimony. and everything will be based on what He said thats where the spirit of prophecy comes from, through Faith in the Lord and His Word.

revelation 19:10 "And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do itnot: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

john 6:63 "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

to quicken is to make alive, to strengthen.

the words of Jesus are what brings Life to the dead.

john 5:28-19 "
Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation."

as much as people want to make this untrue, it will be true through eternity. this is a prophecy spoken about what is to come, its upheld by pauls teaching of the resurrection in romans 2:5-11, and by Peters account of Judgement, and Johns avccount of judgement. they never taught a different thing regarding this. They had the gift of prophecy because they Had the testimony of Jesus. They spoke not different things, but they believed Jesus word and were given insight into them, understanding to reveal what He said.

john 3:
He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. 32And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth;and no man receiveth his testimony. 33He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.

34For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. 35The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. 36He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

the testimony of Jesus, the testomony He gave of God is the spirit of prophecy. and prophecy will never part from His Word.

Prophesy is declaring God's point of view whether to God's people or to the world. A prayerfully designed sermon definitely qualifies.

Some of the prophets just spoke a statement and didn’t say thus sayeth the Lord.
So now you are going to nit-pick? Amazing, since you did not even read the Prophets before responding.

To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats. (Isa 1:11).

To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. (Jer 1:2)

The word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him. (Ezek 1:3)

Should we multiply this or is that enough to learn that prophecy is by direct Divine revelation. It is neither preaching, nor teaching, nor exhortation by evangelists, pastors, and teachers. That is a misrepresentation of prophecy.

PROPHECY = DIVINE REVELATION, WHETHER "FORTHTELLING" OR FORETELLING
