1Th_5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Why do you think the Holy Inspired by God Scriptures instructs us to put on the helmet "The HOPE of Salvation"

Why HOPE?

Hope because it's to attain something that we have been promised.

Maybe the first thing would be to define the word "hope". The biblical explanation of the word "hope" is not like the definition we use today for "hope".

Hope to us means - "maybe and maybe not". I hope I win the baseball game.

True biblical hope is the "confident expectation of good". - nothing to do with "maybe and maybe not".

Use that definition of hope and then we can look at hope in scriptures in context.

Why hope?....because faith is the substance of thing "hoped for". - the confident expectation of the goodness of God being manifested in us because of what Christ has done in His finished work.

We can trust Him when He says that He will perfect that which concerns us. He will never leave nor forsake us. Heb. 13:5 He said that the Holy Spirit will be with us forever. John 14:16

Jesus is not a liar and He said no one can pluck us from His hand nor the Father's hand.

This is the Christian
hope - the confident expectation of the goodness and grace of God in our lives because of Christ Himself.

Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness.

elpís (from elpō, "to anticipate, welcome") – properly, expectation of what is sure (certain); hope.

i think the context of "hope" here is different than the "maybe, maybe not" "hope" we hear in todays culture

The reason i bring this up, because it seems to me this generation likes to think they are wearing a "Helmet of Salvation" and not wearing the helmet "The HOPE of Salvation" This generation thinks and believes they already have it, therefore why HOPE for it if you already HAVE it. But this Scripture instructs us to wear the helmet "The HOPE of Salvation" and for good reason we are to wear it, because we are to HOPE for that Salvation, it is not guaranteed as this generation likes to believe. This generation likes to wear the Helmet of Salvation, instead of the Helmet Scriptures speak of, which is the HOPE of Salvation, big difference. But He that is enduring to the end to be Saved, is indeed wearing that helmet "The HOPE of Salvation"

In this world we are sure to have trouble, but we are to take heart because Jesus Christ has overcome the world... sin and death also, on our behalf, out of His great and everlasting, undying love for us. Our hope is in the renewed world to come, following the resurrection and judgement of all, where sin, death, and sorrow shall be no more.

The subtle teaching behind the theology is saying people are eternally and irrevocably saved
so they are wearing salvation.

If you are told you can never rebel and fall away, that you are accepted no matter your behaviour,
then there is no hope needed, you have arrived.

Paul is expressing a real fact. We have a relationship in our heads, a model of what we are and where
we are going which is not fixed, but based on assumptions and experience.

When we see Christ face to face, our assumptions will be converted into reality or not. So in humbleness
Paul is acknowledging it is a hope, resting on Gods will. And that is truly humbling, and gives me pause
each day, and also great thanks, that it is not founded on me but Him alone. I need to know I can get
carried away, go too far, say too much, miss something crucial, that I am just a servant, unworthy of
fellowship with the King, yet He calls me friends, a child of the His Kingdom. Amen

The other aspect to the "helmet of the hope of salvation" is that it is the armor of God as Paul discusses in Ephesians 6:10-11.

It's interesting to see Paul's understanding of the armor of God progress with greater revelation from 1 Thess. which is his first epistle to the book of Ephesians where he has a greater revelation of the full armor of God.

Ephesians 6:10-11 (NASB)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.

[SUP]11 [/SUP] Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

All of the armor of God is for "standing" - standing in the truth of Christ in us and all that He has already done for us. We are one spirit with Christ now. 1 Cor. 6:17. Having done all to stand - stand therefore.

The final piece of the armor is "praying in the Spirit". This is the lance of the armor that is used by God in this world. Eph. 6:18

Well you can always look at it this way, wear the hope helmet for that generation you speak of, like breaking down the fences the borders that bind them. This can be merely carrying their armor afew more miles...

you know, God places prophets within a body of believers for a reason...and there should be more than one...if it actually is God who has called a person...coming on a forum with the intent of asking people to believe God has given you a message for the world is beyond the scope of this or any other forum...for reasons discerned by those who actually know what a prophet in this day and age is

but I digress

what also irritates me, is the supposed familiarity homemade prophets have with trying to make it seem they have a message...all encompassing...from God to everyone

the reason this can never be true, is stated in scripture and I refer briefly to it above

oh I do believe a person can receive such a message from God...but this ain't it

don't take a verse and try to contradict what is stated in the original intro of spiritual armor from the book of Ephesians as follows:

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

we are told to PUT ON the full armor, including the helmet of salvation

that helmet, protects your MIND...from all the attacks of the devil who tries constantly to make you DOUBT your salvation

to interject the word hope in some way meaning it is not sure, is a gross misapplication to the intent of context in the book of Ephesians

put your helmet on folks...you and I know we need it now, today and always

and today is always today

Hope verses certainty

Paul the apostle to his core believed he was one of the chosen. He regarded christians
as blasphemers worthy of death, and was quite happy to see them in prison or dead.

His foundation was being a jew, Gods word, his heritage from Abraham. He was a pharisee
of pharisees, he was dead certain. It was his job to stamp out this evil apostacy from
judaism.

So what a shock when Jesus confronts him. All his certainty gone, in a flash, and all those
actions he thought of being righteous, become evil condemnation and murder.

If you want a lesson is humbleness and not presuming something before the King of Kings
Paul learnt this. He never was presumptive again, even though he is one person who you
could say could be persumptive he talked always He stands in the grace of Christ, held
in His hands, and under His will.

Truth can be we are saved, chosen, predestined, held safe, yet we will declare it is in
the will of the Father. It is said, not because we doubt His grace, but because we have
no presumption.

While you and others seem to have doubts, maybe you do and maybe you do not, I have the assurance of eternal life.
Absolutely no doubt in my heart or mind!
I base that assurance on the Word of God while you seem to base your hope on your ability to please God with your living.

ROMANS 8:24-25.
For we are saved by Hope but Hope that is seen is not hope, for what man seeth,
why does he yet Hope for? (we can't see what we Hope for in the Kingdom of God)...

But if we Hope for what we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

the Helmet of Salvation is on our heads, therefore the 'brain' which is the seat of intellect) -
so our mind is to be continually filled with that Hope of Salvation - and our hearts are to be
filled with the Love and the Faith, therefore the Breastplate of Faith and Love...

as Paul says, 'Now abideth Faith, Hope, and Charity', - it looks like Faith and Charity hold Hope in place!
God is Good...

Hope of salvation

It is interesting how the idea of security in salvation is linked to works.
To those who feel secure in faith, what do they have faith in?

That Christ died upon the cross. That He conquered death and sin.
That forgiveness is given through Him. That Jesus is God.

That you need to know Him. That you need to repent, to follow, to
obey.

Now many christian have wondered which of these things can be removed and
you still be counted as the elect. Even the apostles asked this question.

John answer is simple -
"We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands."
1 John 2:3

This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.
1 John 2:5-6

So knowing Christ is something that believers asked from day 1 and the answer is not
straight forward, yet it sounds like people have more presumption than these early believers.

What you have also realise those who quickly say I am certain I am one of the elect are often
quick to tell you who is definately not. Humbleness does not often go hand in hand in this area.

Hope of salvation

Do not get me wrong, the Lord witnesses to my heart all the steps of
my life in faith. But I know how limited I am, and how easily without the Spirit
guiding I can easily slip and dishonour my Lord, for I am eternally dependant on
Him.

What is also obvious is people get angry, irritated over some very difficult and
complex issues, to which all believers have questions about, and often miss-understand.

In our church a young believer thought they had committed the unforgivable sin, and got
very worried. Another felt a conviction of testing to come, which they later failed. This
discouraged them to the extent they were not sure they knew the Lord anymore.

I have met leaders, who left their wives, married another and came with some super-spiritual
gumph to justify it all. So I am very cautious in this arena.

It is not for me to judge who is saved and who is not. Only God and the individual knows.
I am certain because the Holy Spirit that dwells within me assures me.
I find it very difficult to understand how one could live in doubt and keep one's sanity.
Again, not judging, just stating where I am in my relationship with my Lord and Savior.
