Buddy, in every thread I see you in you have a chip on your shoulder.

If you need a friend be honest. You obviously came looking for something
A called and sent teacher of the word relies on the anointing of the Holy Spirit and would not have to use cuss words to get any point across. Same for a Preacher from the pulpit, so whats your excuse again?

Oh look at this, he did it, he actually said cussing was not a true sin. Parents, nobody should be offended by this guy teaching your young ones bad words, because he cannot use any nice words to get his point across.

Well in truth, nobody under this guy should be offended by his lack of self control and actually lack of love, because he cannot control what comes out of his mouth. Look away from him and concentrate on those with true sin, you know false teachers and antichrists. DO not ever be offended when the vulgar words coming flying from the pulpit he is behind because he cannot make a point with nice words and has to make the point with cuss words.

What's the problem? Oh you mean the problem that we demand Christian Character still matters and that the free gift of salvation and righteousness gives us an new exchanged life not merely a grace soaked changed life in progress, through passive sanctification. We demand our leaders not to make teaching points with cuss words because they are not spirit filled or have enough fruit of the spirit of self control or love to use nice words that edify, exhort and comfort.

The intimate relationship we have with Christ and the empowering resurrection power of the Holy Spirit, keep us from making points with cuss words, it gives us the love and self control for others to help us deny cussing, and other things we are powerless over.

Like I said and you went right over. I am not offended and expect the world to use cuss words and all the time and around me.

I am offended that someone saying they are full of light would actually think he should get a pat on the back and pass for admitting he uses cuss words to make points because he cannot think of any nice words to use instead.

This is the real problem with the church today:

Men like you trying to be so relevant you actually think people appreciate, respect and love the fact, you present yourself as just a weak, powerless little christian that should be given a back rub over your inability and refusal to let the power of God control your mouth and what comes out of it. After all, they agree that the true sin should be rooted out.

The thing is this, the 25-40 crowd in the world do not see you as being any different than the they are. If thye see oyu give yourself and others a pass on the lack of control of what comes out your mouth, they will not give you another try. They expect us to be different and they want us to be different and stand for something other than lip service, mental assent and playing church.

They need us to be the light, salt and the truth.

Sounds aweful legalistic to me. You want that kind of church, you can have it, Me,. I want a church full of people who are on fire for God. And not afraid to talk about God and his love, and not worried about who they may offend, the word itself will offend people. If people are afraid to offend people. Christianity is not th Place for them.

Sin no longer rules over you because the flesh has been crucified in Christ through the giving of the Holy Spirit.

When someone is living in slavery to the sin they show they have not been crucified. They are still in the flesh. they are not born again. You can only be a slave to the law and have it arouse sin in you if you are still in the flesh. That's the point. The law does not promote or increase sin in the believer because their flesh is dead in Christ. Only unbelievers are provoked to sin by the law.

If the 'believers' in this thread are provoked by the law to sin all the more, they show they are not born again.
Scripture states Paul teaching I am crucified.

That would be ego, not flesh. Ego involves our will. Flesh is the nature that we inherited (inherent) from Adams fall. This does not mean that lusts do not tempt, nor pride of life, which I would call our soulish accomplishments doesn't try to rise in our minds. We capture them.

What is swearing/cussing? How would one define what a cuss word is or is not?
Are they same?

It's it possible that a word may considered a cuss for one person and not for another.
Does a person's culture and dialect where words are used not be a cuss but not for another.

I really simple example being.
The Americans use the word 'fanny' which means backside.

Over here that would be considered a cuss/swear word.

My bible states saved by works - "Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only?" James 2:24
And maybe you should study the word Context......because context disagrees with your view.....Therefore WE CONCLUDE that a man is JUSTIFIED BY FAITH WITHOUT WORKS.....

ONE IS BEFORE GOD THE OTHER BEFORE MEN....see if you can wrap your head around which is which.........!!

How about trusting GOD when HE says that we are saved by grace through faith? Works are not needed in order to keep or maintain salvation.. NONE of us deserves salvation. It is because we DO trust, that we are granted it by God.
Amen....a gift that is eternal by faith... <--the simplicity in Christ

She did not say that we deserve salvation because we trust, but rather we are granted salvation by God because we trust. You twist words to suit your own narrative by speaking out of both sides of your mouth.
As do all that are led by something other than God.... <---this bears out all through the bible starting in the garden...

No, just a question.

It seems to me that God saw something in Abraham. Same goes for David, King Saul, Solomon etc.
the heart. With the heart...

Rom 10:10 For with the heartman believeth unto righteousness; and with themouth confession is made unto salvation

Good point to consider.
Philippians 3:8
8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

skybalon/skubala (rubbish)

[FONT=&quot]The Greek word translated as “rubbish” is skybalon, but that’s not the most accurate translation of the Greek. Skybalon is a dirty word in Greek, and our lovely wholesome translators have really dulled the translation down. What does it mean? The NET Bible translates it as “dung”, which is still not quite the full meaning. The NET Bible note on verse 8’s “dung” says:[/FONT]
The word here translated “dung” was often used in Greek as a vulgar term for fecal matter. As such it would most likely have had a certain shock value for the readers. This may well be Paul’s meaning here, especially since the context is about what the fleshproduces.

[FONT=&quot]Skybalon was a vulgar term! It has been found in ancient graffiti and in manuscripts linking it as pure profanity! Paul purposefully uses a vulgar and offensive term in his letter in order to grab the attention of his readers and get into their faces. (thinkhebrew.wordpress.com)

It seems from the above they Paul used a word that was considered vulgar, basically s**t
Now if the above is true he has used a word that seems to be offensive.
I think for me to cuss or use what is considered a swear word is one that is used against a person.

So if the above word us s**t the Paul is saying "Everything I have lost is s**t and indeed it should be because the s**t I have lost had been replaced by Jesus"

In a nutshell "Everything not of Jesus is s**t.

We did have a preacher who used the S word in a evening sermon once. Brief pause then he said "having looked out I want to ask how many of you are offended that I used that word, how many of you are upset I used that word, don't raise hands but if you were does that upset you more than the people God has given you to proclaim the gospel to are going to hell?

I'm not an advocate of gratuitous profanity I must admit.

My mother uses the f word a lot.
I was off the mind set that if was a swear word and to be honest it upset me.
As I thought about it and prayed about it I realised the majority of the time it was "Well F me"
It was in fact to her an element of surprise, that's all.

Funnily enough since she became a Christian she hardly uses that word, I think mainly because she was aware I would not visit with my kids because of the ways words she would use. Not that the word to her was swear word but because she knew they may hear it and bigger blur it out in school or to a friend because they would find it offensive.

Hope the above makes some sense.

Am way behind with posts.

Strongs defines flesh as the human nature with its frailties both physical and moral, and it's passions.

This is NT flesh. OT is the body.

Come on dan. Same thing! You know this.

If the saved person WILL have works, or else they aren't saved, means they MUST have works, or else they're not saved.

You know where this is going, right?

I'm making you see that works being required for salvation does not have to mean you are trying to earn your own salvation by those works (If it does then that means Calvinism is a works gospel.) But that is the argument you and others have leveled against every single argument in this thread for works being required in salvation. You people instantly think that has to mean you're trying to add your own self righteousness to faith, all the while adhering to your own Calvin belief that says you have to have works or else you're not saved. Time to get real here.
works coupled with the Word required does mean self effort. Law.

When confronted with a simple but uncomfortable verse just hide behind context. James 2:24 is very straight forward and no amount of "context" will change its unmistakable message.

If you can claim "context" as the reason to not accept the verse's simple message then every verse is up for grabs.

Thanks, and that is the point. It is peo-le who makes words “bad” or think they are sinful. Not the words themselves.

As a self professing Bible teacher you should have a higher standard for yourself and a higher love for those you shepherd that should keep you from justifying the use of any kind of slang or profanity. That is really the point here. IF you use this language and think it is their issue or they need to get it over it, that is truly sad. In fact, it is being selfish.

When you state the issue is with other people and it is people who make words "bad" or think they are sinful and not the words themselves, it is nothing but rebellion in the heart. It is the inability or outright denial to let God have it and help you change it.

I ma not judging you I doing what I did with the OP. Since you both are self proclaimed teachers & leaders in your churches then you should have a higher standard for yourselves. If you need help, ask someone you trust. mediate on Scriptures that nothing wicked will come out of your mouth.

You will get like minded ear ticklers telling you it is OK you used the f-bomb in Sunday school class, because you could not make any point without using the word. Your lead Pastor may even relate to it, but the minute a child says it and repeats it and then is asked where he got it from and the child says Teacher EG said it and he is a teacher and leader, you have no defense.
The offense is not the word, the offense comes that a leader/teacher in the body of Christ, gives this a pass, like its not a big deal.

You will rue the day at Judgement when Jesus says enter in good and faithful servant. I have to ask you though, what made you think I was OK with you talking that way to my sheep? and God forbid, some of those sheep are lost because of your inability to use nice words to make a point while teaching.

James 3:1 says you have stricter judgment coming. Teacher

Romans 14:16-18
[SUP]16 [/SUP]Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil; [SUP]17 [/SUP]for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. [SUP]18 [/SUP]For he who in this way serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men.
