Gal. 1:13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:14 And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.

Phil. 3:5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the (Pharisees) law, blameless.

Rom. 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Rom. 10:2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Matt. 15:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

Jer. 14:14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

Really Decon?

You really still preach to the world, after all Jesus and Paul and the Prophets have said about the murderers of the Prophets and Jesus and Stephen, that they were following God's Laws "Blameless"?

You are really willing to call all these people liars just to defend your religious franchise and their traditions? You are sticking to your preaching even after the Bible clearly shows it to be nothing but lies.

You call people all manner of names and accuse them of all manner of wickedness for simply following and believing the Word's of the Bible. I can understand being deceived, it happens to everybody at some point. But what does it say when a person knows they are preaching lies, and still preach them?

Fascinating to be sure.
Go read the rest of what Paul wrote under inspiration and then get your head out of da sand....

Finally you say something I can agree with. As Jesus warns.

Matt. 24;4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

It is a deceit to preach that the Pharisees were trying to earn salvation by following God's Laws. Teaching lies about God's Word is really, really bad. But Jesus did warn about "Many" who would do just that.

It's not too late to reconsider your preaching Decon. We have all been corrected, the humility, though uncomfortable, is very good to squish man's pride. It is my hope that no one is tricked into teaching lies about God. I hope you will see, and stop preaching the falsehood that the Pharisees were trying to please God by obeying Him.
Make no mistake....I am spot on with salvation....you on the other hand are playing a pair of twos against a Royal Flush......and your cafe blend false gospel of works will not win the pot....ever!

True. Those who are Truly Saved will have many good works. How could they not, if LOVE lives inside of them? If Love (Jesus) lives inside of a person, they will be so full of Love for others that they will be feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick, giving to charities, helping people any chance they get.
Those who do those things to GET SAVED, or REMAIN SAVED are in error. But those who do those things (works) Because they Love One Another, have Jesus living inside of them.

Amen. This is something that i have been saying over and over again, to a generation that has ears but can't hear. Works has nothing to do with a person Getting Saved. But once a person IS SAVED by Grace and recieve the free Gift, they will be full of good works (NOT to get or remain Saved, but because they ARE SAVED)

The problem is we live in the last days, among the last day generation. Which believe that believing in Jesus is enough (FAITH ONLY) and no works are needed or condoned. These people put down, belittle, or mock anyone who has many good works, saying to them "You are working for your Salvation" But the reason these people do not understand is because LOVE does not live in them, even though they claim with their mouths that Jesus does live in them. These claim to be Christian because they have given Jesus mouth service by accepting Him as their Savior and Lord, but altogether have no fruits that prove that He actually resides in them. You will know them by their fruits, or lack of them. These altogether do not, nor can understand Scriptures which teach things like:

Tit_3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

Tit_3:14 And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

These false Christians (Those who believe in Jesus but are devoid of any good works) will mock and condemn any person who maintains good works exactly as Scriptures teaches True Christians to do. These same people who profess to be Christians will mock, belittle, make fun of, or condemn anyone who teaches you should have many good works. These are goats and not sheep. The goats in the parable all believe Jesus is Lord, even calling Him "Lord" but even though they believe Jesus is Lord, they are devoid of any good works, and these will be rejected by Jesus Christ. Because even though they claim with their mouths they believe in Jesus, Jesus does not live inside of them, if He did, they would have evidence of His presence in them, but the Love they will have One for another, the compassion they will have to help people, the overflowing of good works done by that person because LOVE lives inside of them.

But Lo, This generation of false Christians are of the "Faith ONLY" Tribe. Saying, Teaching, and Believing that Faith ONLY is enough. Demons believe in Jesus, and even obey Him, they are not Saved either. Believing in Jesus gets your name written in the Book of Life. Letting Him live in you, which changes your life for ever, keeps your name from being blotted out of the Book of Life. Letting Him live in you, you will not be able to help having many good works, because Love lives inside of you.

Many claim with their mouths that they are Saved, does not make it TRUE. Those who are Truly Saved will have evidence that Jesus is living inside of them, they will full of good works, not to be Saved or remain Saved, but they will be full of good works because they ARE Saved. Woe to this generation who claim with their mouths that they are Saved, and yet they are unfruitful, no works. Many claim and believe they are Saved, but that does not make it so.
Anyone can freely accept that Jesus Christ is "Lord" but accepting Him to live in you is an entirely different animal.
You will know who has Jesus in them or NOT, by the Love they have One for Another.
Many claim to be a Good Tree, but it is their Works that determine if they Truly are or not.
Woe to this generation of couch sitters, professing that Jesus lives in them, but they feed no hungry, they help no needy, they do not give to anyone, full of dead works even though they profess with their mouths "I am Saved"

Acts 16
30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Nothing said about having faith. Salvation is all about believing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Faith comes into play after salvation. Faith is how the believer lives his life according to God's word. Faith implies obedience. A believer's faith is his testimony. Some believers are weak in faith and have a poor testimony. Some are strong in faith and have a strong testimony.

Comparing Scripture with Scripture:

Romans 1:8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

People were not hearing about how those Romans got saved, rather their testimony and obedience to Christ after salvation. Here it is again at the end of the book of Romans:

Romans 16:19 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

So will you please tell me what works I MUST do to stop Jesus from throwing me into hell when he returns! Because I'm scared. Quitting smoking isn't a WORK surely? Stopping fornication and boozing isn't a work. Those things are changed behaviour.

Do I have to go to Sudan and preach the gospel to the militants there? Or do I have to find some vagrants and feed them? What WORK shall I DO to stop your Jesus from throwing me into the pit with the devil?
Not sure if your question above is about you or asking that question so that person who you responded to, how they would answer it to someone who is scared.
My response is the following.

You have no reason to be scared, no reason at all.
The gospel is not about being scared.
The gospel is about love, the love of God that he has for mankind.

God is love, he is not a scaremonger.

The only thing to be scared about us if one rejects Jesus, believes he is a fake.
One who does that is not scared at all, why be scared of something you don't believe in?

Romans 10:9-13
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Do the above then the Holy Spirit in you will go about the work of the Father in you.

After Adam & Eve sinned what was their first reaction?

Genesis 3:9-10

9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

Adam was scared, afraid.

Yet we know that at the point God reveals a plan had been set in place.

Jesus, who comes to reveal.
Jesus who says

Isaiah 41:10
10 Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

You can say that all day long, but if you are living in lawlessness your lawlessness is not crucified with Christ as you think. The crucified sin nature means more than just not being legally guilty of being lawless. That's what Christians don't seem to understand.
I should really ignore you Ralph, but you are just so lovable, am drawn to your posts.

If ones sin nature is dead, then how can that one live in it? Are you denying the power of the new birth? If one is converted, that one has EXPERIENCED the change in ones inner being. Doesn't mean old habits die immediately. So Paul gives us guidance through the revelation Jesus gave to him, that we need to capture thoughts which can stir up desires from the past. And not just lust.

So, we don't really know what we have been given when first BORN AGAIN OF SPIRIT. Do we? Apparently not. We renew our minds to this great salvation of Jesus, identify with Him in His death and ressurection daily. Why daily you ask? Because today is the day of salvation. Always today. So stop please with throwing the past at believers and try asking about today.

Walk free in the Spirit which we are now, and learn of Him. All we need to do.

This Lord's-Day Morning, December 6th, 1868,
At the Metropolitan Tabernacle, Newington

A Sermon By: C.H. Spurgeon

"And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness."-
Gen 15:6

C. H. Spurgeon : Justification by Faith—Illustrated by Abram's Righteousness

With your Bibles open, kindly observe that after it is written his faith was counted to him for righteousness, it is recorded that the Lord said to him, "I am Jehovah that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it." When the soul is graciously enabled to perceive its complete justification by faith, then it more distinctly discerns its calling. Now, the believer perceives his privileged separation and discerns why he was convinced of sin, why he was led away from self-righteousness and the pleasures of this world, to live the life of faith; now he sees his high calling and the prize of it, and from the one blessing of justification he argues the blessedness of all the inheritance to which he is called.

The more clear a man is about his justification the more will he prize his calling, and the more earnestly will he seek to make it sure by perfecting his separation from the world and his conformity to his Lord. Am I a justified man? Then will I not go back to that bondage in which I once was held. Am I now accepted of God through faith? Then will I live no longer by sight, as I once did as a carnal man, when I understood not the power of trusting in the unseen God. One Christian grace helps another, and one act of divine grace casts a refulgence upon another. Calling gleams with double glory side by side with the twin star of justification.

Dear friends, this last word, and I send you home. Have you believed in God? Have you trusted Christ? O that you would do so today! To believe that God speaks truth ought not to be hard; and if we were not very wicked this would never need to be urged upon us, we should do it naturally. To believe that Christ is able to save us seems to me to be easy enough, and it would be if our hearts were not so hard. Believe thy God, man, and think it no little thing to do so. May the Holy Ghost lead thee to a true trust. This is the work of God, that ye believe on Jesus Christ, whom he hath sent. Believe that the Son of God can save, and confide thyself alone in him, and he will save thee.

He asks nothing but faith, and even this he gives thee; and if thou hast it, all thy doubts and sins, thy trials and troubles put together, shall not shut thee out of heaven. God shall fulfill his promise, and surely bring thee in to possess the land which floweth with milk and honey.

I had to look up refulgence which means to shine brightly.

I think that's a good word for it. A spiritual instinct.
The point being, we tend to not let others have different spiritual instinctive obedience than what we believe we ourselves should have. We need to recognize that and understand that not all law keepers without exception are being observant because they are trying to justify themselves through the law. They can have good reasons for keeping the laws they keep just as you do for the laws you keep.

That's my point. Your law keeping is not legalism, but for some reason Hiz's can only be that. If your law keeping is not legalism why does Hiz's HAVE to be?
oh, for....walking by and in Spirit is not law keeping. It's empowerment. Law is control. Sinners need law, not the children of God.

Pay attention to the words in bold just before the camel and gnat reference you cite

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. 24“You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!-Matthew 23:23-24

The Pharisees did not keep the law. So how can people say that if you DO keep the law you are being a self righteous Pharisee? Pharisees did not keep the law.
Thats not what is said. They kept law without providing room for justice, mercy, and faithfulness. That is destructive without restoration. Grace restores with repentance.

Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Heb 9:13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Does this not say that Jesus poured out His blood on the MERCY SEAT, before Father in heaven, and that blood speaks..intercedes for His own body on earth, and purges our conscience, from dead works?

so where does the law of sin or the condemnation of law, have anything against the blood of Jesus and those of us who bear His image within? Our very DNA braided or twisted together with His Spiritual DNA, one with Him, and always abiding in Him?

You were declaired righteous when your had faith, when like the tax collector. You called out to God. And you did that because you had faith.
I agree with you E-g whole heartedly, it is our "faith" that saves us and our "faith" is a gift of God. Even the devil and his angels "believe" in Jesus and shudder, (James 2:19). God has granted to each believer a measure of "faith" and each new believer He will, "certainly not cast out." It is God who saves, who keeps us saved and who will, "present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy." Jude1:24. From faith to faith our salvation is all of God, from the beginning to completion, trust in Jesus Christ.

"All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out." John6:37

"He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has granted them.” John6:65

"And have I not myself heard you say in your heart--"Jesus, Jesus, my whole trust Is in thee: I know that no righteousness of my own can save me, but only thou, O Christ--sink or swim, I cast myself on thee?" Oh, my brother, thou art drawn by the Father, for thou couldst not have come unless he had drawn thee. Sweet thought! And if he has drawn thee, dost thou know what is the delightful inference? Let me repeat one text, and may that comfort thee: "The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." Yes, my poor weeping brother, inasmuch as thou art now coming to Christ, God has drawn thee; and inasmuch as he has drawn thee, it is a proof that he has loved thee from before the foundation of the world. Let thy heart leap within thee, thou art one of his."

Going to the extreme will not make your point. In fact it negates your point.

I have never ever met a believer who walks in the extreme that you use to make your point.

If such people did then they are not believers.
That's the point, Bill. People who are still 'in the flesh' are not saved. Unless they can prove otherwise by NOT being in the flesh. It doesn't even matter if they were never saved, or left the faith. The point is they are not saved and ready to meet Jesus. So you're right. Believers don't live in the extremes of verses like Galatians 5:21. UNBELIEVERS do. People who make grace out to be a license to sin are showing they do not have the grace of God. If they do have the grace of God they will rise up in righteous indignation at the suggestion they do not and will make it a point to show different.

Any believers who believe it's ok to sin and use is as an excuse then they should be corrected with Romans 6.
And other scriptures too.

There is a difference between those who use grace as a license to sin and those who have a particular sin trait that they hate and ask release.
I agree.
Hatred for sin, and sorrow over sin is the difference. Embracing sin in the way of this new popular doctrine of grace in the church, which we can not discuss, is definitely not the way of hating sin and asking for release from it.

To quantify a level of works for evidence of salvation is judging and it's wrong.
I'm just going by what the Bible says.
People who 'live in' sin are not born again-Galatians 5:21, Ephesians 5:5, 1 John 3:6-10, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.

That's not quantifying it as in 'x' number of times a person sins. It's about living in a lifestyle of unrepentant and unchanged sin. We've discussed at length in this thread what constitutes 'living in' sin as opposed to the believer who sins.

Please forgive the use of quantity, but let's look at that way to help illustrate the point about the difference between sinning and living in sin. Sinning 100 times and coming to Christ in repentance 100 times is sinning. We true believers can relate to that. I sure can. But sinning 100 times and then 100 more times and not even thinking about Christ, except what a bother He is to your sinning, is what I would call 'living in' sin. 'Believers' who can relate to that kind of a relationship with God have to stop and face the reality that they are probably not in Christ in salvation at all.

I do prefer the phrase 'upholding the law'. But either way, the Spirit in us seeks to keep us away from walking in ways that have a law against it-Galatians 5:23. Walking in the Spirit violates NO law. It is that way that the Spirit in us upholds the law.

The person who 'lives in' sin is in fact denying the power of the new birth. That's the point.
