He speaks a lot of those things, which we would all agree with, because we all believe4 in those things. Where the disconnect crones from is why we do those things, and what the root power for doing those things come from.

Gal 3: 10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.

What part of perfection is required do they not understand?
The natural man receives not the things of God, neither can he know them for they are spiritually discerned....................

The Pharisees refused God's instructions EG, and created their own. You won't even acknowledge this. No matter how many time you preach against this truth, you can not change it. Had the Pharisees trusted God like Zechariahs and Abraham, they would have their names included in Heb. 11, as examples of Faith.

Rom. 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
My understanding is that they accepted the mosaic law and the 613 commandments but they then added to it, rules and instructions.
As a result we get the Midrash.

I think the purpose was to clarify the law.

A simple example of this is the Sabbath. Although the were many more.

The 4th commandment.
Keep the Sabbath Holy, not work.
So follow that commandment they created about 30 plus categories of what work meant and within those categories, sub-categories to follow.

So things like how many steps you can take and so on.

The issue that Jesus had with the Pharisees was

That they priced themselves on following not just the mosaic law but the letter of the man made rules designed to clarify the law.

That's why Jesus went at them

Matthew 23:27-28

27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. 28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

Matthew 12:1-8
Chapter 12
Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath
1 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. 2 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!”
3 But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: 4 how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? 5 Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless? 6 Yet I say to you that in this place there is One greater than the temple. 7 But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. 8 For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

We only have to look at the 7 woes in Matt 23 to see why Jesus had a beef with them.

So yes I would say that they were trying to obey God and his laws, tried to clarify it.
But in doing so all they did was to add burdens on people, burdens that they would not keep or had a get out clause for.

That's why he called them hypocrites.

Alas the church today does the same.

They add to the grace of God.
As a result it's adding works to faith which negates grace and faith for salvation.

Works will follow saving faith.
Those works prepared for us.

Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

This is a mystery that Christ, The almighty God can dwell within us.
Col 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Col 1:28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
Col 1:29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

Christ does the work, all good things come from God and if Christ dwells in you, you WILL have good works.
You can't have the Presence of Christ and not have the works.
Mat 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Mat 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
I am in total agreement with your comment. Another way of saying it is true faith produces good works. Which also means faith without works is false faith. It amazes me that people on this site argue strenuously against this claiming it is salvation by works ignoring that it is the other way around, the works are evidence of true faith. Dcontroversal chief among them.

Incorrect.
True faith produces good fruits (works) according to Jesus.
Bad faith produces bad fruits (works) according to Jesus.
Therefore faith without good works is bad faith according to Jesus.

Matthew 7 (Jesus speaking)

True and False Prophets
15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

You have been here what 9 days or so....go read every thread I have posted in and then come back bro....I have NEVER condemned one who preaches repentance pal.....nor do I EXCUSE SIN, but rather I ACKNOWLEDGE the bible's perspective on it....this thread is about salvation based upon faith void of works....NOT A THREAD ON SIN AND REPENTANCE....
No one has disputed that bro.....the bible is clear on the following truths

Paul-->Romans-->A man is justified (rendered innocent) before God by faith void of works
James-->James-->A man's invisible faith that justifies before God (void of works) is seen by men in our works

FAITH and FAITH alone saves eternally
FAITH that saves eternally will produce fruit/works....even if but one piece!

..... bump for the liars and false accusers

I suggest you open your eyes and get right.....ok genius answer the following question...

Was David saved when he committed adultery and killed Uriah?
What type of faith produced that work?

See, you don't know what your talking about and have been blinded to the truth by your dogma.

Rom. 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

There is a Law of works and a Law of Faith. Abraham obeyed the Law of Faith. The Law of Works was "ADDED" 430 years later. You have been tricked into believing these two are the same Law. For this reason you don't understand Paul in Gal. or Romans.

Of the Law of Works (Levite priesthood) Paul says; 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

The Levitical Priesthood does not judge us, God's "Law of Faith" judges us.

Rom. 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

This is not pertaining to the "Added" Levitical Priesthood "Law of Works", but the Law of Faith Abraham obeyed. This is the "Law of Liberty".

12 For as many as have sinned without law (Not Law of Works) shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; (Not Law of Works)

13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. ( Not Law of Works)

Because you have been tricked into believing God's Instruction are so grievous and that the Pharisees were rejected because they were trying to earn salvation by following God's burdensome Law and not their own "Commandments of Men" as Jesus taught, you are being led astray.

I wish it were not so.
Yeah, I forgot,

You ignore passages of scripture which prove you wrong. You think the pharisees (even though paul said otherwise) did not think they were righteous because they obeyed the law. You love to excuse your sin while judging others.

You did not refute the passages I gave, Look at them, then point by point show me where they did not say what I said they said.. Then MAYBE we can talk.

The Pharisees were rejected because they did not believe Jesus was the Messiah, and they rebuked Him of every work that He did, and they kept rejecting Him IN THEIR HEARTS.....that's why the Pharisees were rejected.

He is one of the many who come to CC and believe and say things no one has ever said before. Better off just letting them rest in their stories.

Yes that's true.
If we have no assurance in God and of God then the only assurance were have is in ourselves.

Well at least we think we have.
The reality is that we live guilt ridden lives.
Waiting for the sky to fall on our heads.

Does God love, or dies he not?
If I work harder then he will love me, if I get it wrong then he won't love me?
If I sin at that point will be not love me?
One minute I'm in the next I'm out.
Emotions all over the place.
It's no wonder that many many Christians suffer from anxiety as a result of this.

What I find very interesting concerning this is that the issue is not with Jesus but with God.

How many people on this site know that God loves us as much as he loves Jesus?

I was very surprised when I have asked people that question.

So many did not believe it or said that can't be true.

So I point out

John 17:23
23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

If we have no assurance in and of God then we will be miserable believers until the day we die.

Not for action.

Very sad indeed.

We shall know the truth and the shall set us free, not should but will.
Amen

What else can we trust but God.. If God did nto love us, he never would have left his heavenly place. COme to be a man, put up with all he suffer4ed his whole life. And suffered the death of the cross. And separation from the father. For us.

How much more does God have to do to prove his love?

Yeah whatever man, They did not obey the law. They could not obey the law. You can not obey the law. And I can not obey the law.

The pharisee did what every religious person does. They gatekeeper the law. Water it down. And think they are righteous because they are obedient to their watered down law.

Yet Jesus still said unless our righteousness exceeds theirs we have no hope. Now he did nto say this to say we can do it, He said this to prove a point. It is impossible to come to God by our own actions. Thats why he hands to die. Everyone knew the pharisees were the most morally upright people in their day. Everyone else were dire sinners compared to them. That was th point Jesus was making, You want to come to me by yourself. You have to be better than them. Good luck with that. Their righteousness is so unrighteous, yet they are BETTER than you. If they will not make it, How do you think you will make it?

Only one man ever obeyed the law in a way required by God (continue in ALL ways and obey EVERY Command) ie perfection.

Maybe when you realise you can not fulfill the law. You will be open to the fact of why we need grace.

You're still missing it....if they had ACCEPTED Christ as the Messiah and glorified Him in their hearts, then they would have been accepted. They refused to do that because they felt the Old Law was the only law. But Jesus came not to abolish the law, but that it might be fulfilled. They "thought" there were wise, but rejecting Jesus, they became fools......think about it

You mean Like Saul? Like Nicodemus? And we are sure many others did?

It was not because Paul all of a sudden started to be perfect. It is because he repented and trusted CHrist.

I'm reminded of a sermon I heard from an old preacher, who talked about works, and how the best works we can do while here on this Earth would still only be a stench unto the nostrils of the Lord because of our sinful nature, but through our mediator, which is Christ, we are made whole, a sweet smelling aroma.

some false gospel pushers (lightlovehope for example)

who lie
bare false witness
manipulate
omit truth

love to pretend they are seperate from sin
while they are still in their flesh

but this makes them hypocrits

and they do not put their faith in what Jesus did on the cross as the only means to salvation

but they like to add their dirty rags (own works) onto what it takes to "stay" saved

when in reality

He who began a good work in you will perform it until the day of Christ

and if any man sins He has an advocate with the Father in Jesus Christ

They will answer to God.. let tyhem drown in their religion and self righteousness. And their many sins they display daily in CC
