For me personally I think He kept it like His medal because He fought a war to save us. It's like a symbol of His unfathomable love for each every one of us.

I agree.. :) Though i think its not to remind him of what he has done for us, but rather to remind us time and time again when we see him of what he has done for us

Because our memory of sin is forgotten through eternity, the consequences won't be.
They are there to remind us what sin cost and how much God loves us. and that is beyond our comprehension.

I thought he just wanted to show people that it was really him.
