Default What Is Christian Life Here And Now

Christian life is the vision of the Soul in ecstatic
union with God, moving in a state of perpetual joy
and peace, experienced in this life and not in the next.
that the Soul in such a sublime state is above the
demands of ordinary virtue, not because virtue is
not needed but because in its state of union with
    God virtue becomes automatic.

    "
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,who loved me and gave Himself for me."
    Gal. 2:20

Friend, to reach that 'blessed stage a man/or woman has a few things to learn !
This life we have now is for 'preparation for the Kingdom ! there is nothing 'automatic to reach union with God.
Hen 5v8, Though he were 'a Son yet 'learned he obedience by the things which he suffered. HE is our example and suffering is not a 'sublime state.

Curious? Are these your own words or those of someone else?

    Sounds like it may come from Marguerite Porete (c. 1248/1250 – 1 June 1310), a French-speaking mystic???????

    that sounds like Christian mysticism

    it's not in the Bible

Paul, for example, was pretty grounded

it also sounds like a quote...please supply your source...unless you wrote it

Indeed it was inspired by her but is not a direct quote...after reading much of her works, this was my own meditation :d

so heavenly minded, that you are no earthly good?

probably digging a well in Africa then and getting sweaty and dirty would be beneath her

most of us do not have the time, never mind the inclination, to sit and stare into outer space all day and fancy we are getting holier by so doing

    your judgement is duly noted......

DR: Could you name some ordinary virtues? Patience comes to mind.
It seems some are too impatient for patience to become a virtue.

That is amazingly beautiful poetic and true. You need to write things like this a whole lot more

My life's testimony seems to have helped many people so I am going to put it here http://christianchat.com/testimonies...-new-post.html

When the hearts of God and a child of his make that special intimate connection a wondrous power is born and a flame ignites that can never be put out

Jesus knew more than anyone of us-Love hurts

A fired up Christian shouldn't be that big a deal. Our love should be an overpowering burning desire to serve and be in His presence

As some others have said here, this seems far beyond the ordinary everyday life perhaps,

But I like it - and to put it only in the realm of the ideal is to say that deep communion with God is not possible for us on the Earth . . .

Sometimes we put too much emphasis on gaining character (virtue) - perhaps if we concentrate more on union with God we would find ourselves gaining virtue without effort.

I like the thought, but think we need to avoid the idea that the ideal is to become a monk and achieve a sort of mystical union with God separated from society and people.

That's true Chester, I don't believe we were all called to be monks, certainly I'm not one...I've worked over50 years of my life and didn't come to Jesus til half way through my life...ever since then, even through my working years, I've never lost focus on Jesus...and i totally agree with you, while we are all bound by the human condition and will never be perfect on this planet...that should never stop us from striving for perfection
