I find the meaning of this name interesting as Baalzebub, in the Hebrew is shown as “lord of the fly”, or this name is also shown as Beelzebub in the NT , which is given as similitude of the Devil.

The name seems to come from an Old Testament Philistine diety shown as בַּעַל זְבוּב Baʻal Zᵉbûwb, bah'-al zeb-oob'; from H1168 and H2070; Baal of (the) Fly; Baal-Zebub, a special deity of the Ekronites:—Baal-zebub.”

But it is also spoken of here in the NT as the prince of the devils, Jesus then comparing Satan to the same in Matthew below.

Matthew 12:24-28 “But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.[SUP]25 [/SUP]And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:[SUP]26 [/SUP]And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
[SUP]27 [/SUP]And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.[SUP]28 [/SUP]But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.”

Why I thought this name was interesting was because of this verse in Ecclesiastes 10:1 “Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.”

Now here is the similitude I am seeing in all of this, Satan is like the lord of the evil spirits and the ointment of the apothecary is like the sweet smelling ointment of God, which is meant to perfume and bring forth a sweet smelling savour in His sacrifices. And the flies are like evil spirits and doctrines of devils sent forth to try to cause the Lords sweet smelling ointment to stink by injecting worldly wisdom into God’s words, which the wisdom of this world is shown as foolishness,(1 Corinthians 3:19) which foolishness is the same definition as the word folly shown above in Ecclesiastes 10:1.

Also notice the word flies above means a stinging fly as shown here….זְבוּב zᵉbûwb, zeb-oob'; from an unused root (meaning to flit); a fly (especially one of a stinging nature):—fly.

Compare to the sting of death which is sin in (1 Corinthians 15:56) in connection with the sting of the devils that come out of the bottomless pit in Revelation 9:10.

Now to the connection to the ointment of the apothecary, which is a similitude of the holy anointing oil, which is given to symbolize the Holy Spirit. This similitude is shown here in Exodus 30:25 “And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.

This holy oil was meant anoint and perfume the tabernacle, the ark of the testimony, all the vessels of the tabernacle for ministry, and also the sons of Aaron were also to be anointed with a sweet smelling savour and offer up sacrifices perfumed before the Lord as shown in the OT.

But is it also shown in the spiritual sense in the NT.

2 Corinthians 2:15-16 “For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:[SUP] 16 [/SUP]To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
Ephesians 5:2 “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.”
Philippians 4:18 “But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God.”

So Satan by mingling in his leaven of flies, and by a mingling in of a perverse spirit into the sacrifices, he has also caused what was meant to be a perfumed by God’s Spirit a sweet smelling sacrifice, the sacrifices have been made to stink. And so as he has caused many of the offerings to stink , these stinking offerings and sacrifices shall be refused by the Lord.

Those who have been given ears to hear, let them hear what the Spirit is saying.

Isaiah 3:24 “And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.”

Same sign shown here....

Jesus said Matthew 5:13 “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour,(G3471) wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

When the salt loses its savour it becomes
foolish. Notice the word usage in the phrase “lose savour” is also shown as “become a fool”, and to “make foolish” (G3471)

The KJV translates Strongs G3471 in the following manner:
lose savour (2x), become a fool (1x), make foolish (1x).

And this is what happens when people listen to
fools or the foolish doctrine of carnally minded men.

Romans 1:22 “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,(G3471)

1 Corinthians 1:20 “Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish (G3471) the wisdom of this world?

So now you know the difference between the 5
foolish virgins who had no oil,(Holy Spirit) and the 5 wise virgins who had the anointing oil of the Holy Spirit to lighten their lamps. And we also now know why Jesus said the foolish salt that had lost his savour would be cast out, and trodden under foot of men.

Jeremiah 12:10Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

The Lord of the Flies...I like that thought about the "ointment".

In Psalm 23 - "The Lord is my Shepherd....He anoints my head with oil".

I read where the shepherds would anoint the head including the ears of the sheep to keep the flies from getting at the sheep.

In like manner the Lord protects our minds from the "flies of the enemy" - Beelzebub lies. Those flies manifest as wrong thoughts trying to get in to our minds from what we hear.

The mixing of wrong thoughts that can come to our "ears" is the mixture of anything that takes away from what Christ has already done for us when He redeemed us with His blood.

The just shall live by faith - by grace through faith. We walk in Christ in the same manner as we received Christ. Col. 2:6

The Lord of the Flies loves to distort the clear message of the salvation that is in Christ's work only.

An interesting thing to note about flies is that they are highly attracted to anything rotten or gross or impure and often times in demon possessions flies will be buzzing around either an area where a demon is at or around the victim themselves, They are also always around a dead rotting body .

if there was anything in the animal and insect kingdom that represented the devil evil and death it would be the fly

That would make sense when we see so many perverting christianity, like televangelists, & those who believe they're God's gift to the chat rooms being nasty & judgmental. It doesn't matter whether they're right or wrong, the whole thing stinks in the end, & nobody wants to hear it.

I guess that means the mods need a big fly swatter..... and a strong arm.

This sign here might also be connected as the scarlet worm in scripture is also shown as sin, and flies breed maggots. Notice what happened when the children of Israel transgressed the command of God about the manna....

Exodus 16:19-20

[SUP]19 [/SUP]And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them."

I love the point in 2 Cor 2 where we are told that to some we smell like death and to others we smell like life. God is so vivid in his descriptions. I have seen both responses first hand (where a complete unbeliever came unglued because I spoke and lived the truth of God’s Word and also where believers came together in love). So interesting.

We really should not be shocked when we are reviled for speaking truth … especially when we are speaking out against those winds of doctrine blown about through the sleight and cunning craftiness of those who lie in wait to deceive.

David described his prayers to God as incense and the evening sacrifice. I hope and pray that my prayers to Father are sweet smelling to Him. He is so good to us!

Try hanging clear plastic bags filled with water in your window to scare them away.

Thanks, ISIT. I took no offense to Blain's comment --- all is well here. :)

Your thread also brought to my mind the judgment of God against Egypt's idol worship (Ex 8:20-32). It was at this time that God divided between His people and the Egyptians (Ex 8:23) so the land of Goshen (where children of Israel lived) was not affected by these swarms.

Long ago, my husband and I were hiking in the mountains and these deer flies kept biting us. We were hiking near the water to stay cool but had to move away from the stream because these flies kept pestering us. It was just a few flies at a time here and there. I can't imagine what God had in store for pharaoh and those who were involved in idol worship! It had to be awful as it corrupted the all the land of Egypt (Ex 8:24).

Yea good insight, and that is also a similitude of that which shown in my OP in reference to the book of Revelation. The Lord often shows things in a natural way first in order that we might see and grasp the spiritual things to come. This is how the Holy Spirit teaches, by comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

And that separating and protecting of God's people from the natural plagues in Egypt is also given as a sign of the greater spiritual plagues that were to come upon the whole world. If you will notice the locusts swarm from hell could not hurt those who God had sealed by His Spirit in Revelation 9.

Revelation 9:3-4

[SUP]3 [/SUP]And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

In this we see how God protects his servants from these spiritual demons whose sting is in their tail.(the prophet that teaches lies he is the tail) ....

Isaiah 9:15
The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.

Yes, those who are not sealed by His Spirit shall be tormented and seek death but death will flee from them (Rev 9:6).

Here are some verses from Psalm 135 that are quite revealing:

Psalm 135:

15 The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

16 They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;

17 They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths.

18 They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth in them.

According to vs 18, those who are involved in idolatry become as their idols.

Compare that to 2 Cor 3:17-18

17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
