Yes but some might think to be saved despite of them in that they don't really need to repent or strive to avoid them.

They are dead works....bible doesn't say folks do them to be saved but that folks need to repent of dead works.
I still think dead works means works which are powerless to save us, Thats why the are dead.

A person must be saved before they can seek voctory over certain sin issues. I don't God demands we repent of every sin issue, we may not even know they are sins,, And have no way to know until God teaches us.

Faith towards God

2 Peter 1
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

We have to have humble and contrite hearts to repent of anything God tells us are sins.

Don't have time to find them. I am sure someone can help me locate the Gospel verses about faith in Jesus death for the remission of our sins?

A true understanding of the "elementary principles" helps us to become mature Christians, rooted in Christ.

The list I gave is based on scriptures.
Most everything the Westboro Mob blasts people with is based on Scripture, too. What is important is what is behind the imparting of Scripture.

Are you implying something with your statement Willie?

If you are questioning my motive for posting, it is because I would like to practice explaining the elementary principles according to scriptures so that we might grow and mature in Christ.

So far I am rather failing miserable.

For the time will come when they cannot endure sound doctrine, but will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears............many cannot even handle the milk......much less the meat....
I think there is a difference between those who are babes and those who are immature. The difference being those who are immature are those who by reason of experience should know better.
I think Aerial in this thread is talking about babes...but I could be wrong.

To anyone who might ask.

If my 3rd grader asked about trig I would explain it. Just basic math dealing with triangles.

Can we discuss the milk?

What do you know of the elementary principles?

1. foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,
2. the doctrine of baptisms
3. laying on of hands
4. resurrection of the dead
5. eternal judgment.
Naive question alert:
Are those five things what you consider milk topics?

I think the milk is more along the lines of learning of God's love, compassion, mercy and grace because new Christians are like babies. They fall down from time to time like babies do when they are learning walk.

So I'm not really sure about the last one on your list eternal damnation. When I first got saved I made mistakes and then I heard preachers talking about eternal damnation so I felt that I was damned when I made a mistake and just felt like giving up...I didn't understand that I had to learn and grow through the grace of God.
If a sign of baby Christian is falling down, then how long does it take to get to small kid stage? I've done been falling down for 44 years now.

Sooo, you do think these are elementary. (I really never thought past the basic saved/repent/follow.) I have no doubt you can find it all in scripture, but is it elementary?

To me, They were tryign to be justified by the law. They were not even drinking milk, they were drinking sulfuric acid.. Because they never trusted Christ, they went back to what they TRULY had faith in (the law)
I think it is possible to get sideways even after having believed and understood. I don't think the Galatians just never believed to begin with. I think they just got lured back and yoked again and needed some help.

I remember when I had trouble where I actually stopped reading the ot for a while because I would get a firm grip but then begin to slip back into what I must do whenever I read ot.

Even now, I have to remember sometimes that if I begin to wonder when reading if if I really should be doing some outward thing, that I am slipping back out of seeking the Spirit of the words for inside and viewing it as law for the outside. It takes some practice of feeling the pull and rejecting it before it simmers down. It's a battle going on there between the flesh gravitating to law and the spirit gravitating to Spirit.

You both are right...
The Galatians got pulled back into what eg is talking about.
Christians make good works dead by the flesh thinking it can take part, is what Ariel is talking about.

Both would be dead and useless works. I guess one you could call dead works for salvation and the other you could call dead works because of the influence of the flesh...

It takes the whole body and the Spirit too, to pull something this big together. You are brave and persistent. Keep going. We're here listening. :)

Paul calls these Ariel is speaking of the elementary principles. This would not be Paul saying it's trigonometry. He would be saying they are more like the basics of math like simple arithmetic. Ariel wants to delve into these elementary principles Paul lists. There is one of them I know absolutely nothing about so I am eager to get to that last one on the list. :)

I'm going to read the whole chapter to refresh. Be back!

Imagine my surprise when I realized there's one of these that Paul called elementary that I know nothing about... :(

1 Corinthians 3
And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

Hebrews 5
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Hebrews 6
Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits.
Okay, so I've read the chapters and am ready, freddy! :)
I misspoke, it isn't the last one on the list I know nothing about. It's the laying on of hands I am totally clueless about.
I'm going now to look at the link you gave.

(I really like that you put those three verses together for us to start in the op. :)
