1 Corinthians 3
And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

Hebrews 5
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Hebrews 6
Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits.

Trying to force feed a baby something it isn't ready for causes shrieking, redfaced caterwauling. And they're just going to vomit it up all over you anyway...

I don't know a single thing about the laying on of hands...I really don't.

Some never progress past the milk stage. They are forever tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine.

I think the milk is more along the lines of learning of God's love, compassion, mercy and grace because new Christians are like babies. They fall down from time to time like babies do when they are learning walk.

So I'm not really sure about the last one on your list eternal damnation. When I first got saved I made mistakes and then I heard preachers talking about eternal damnation so I felt that I was damned when I made a mistake and just felt like giving up...I didn't understand that I had to learn and grow through the grace of God.

A true understanding of the "elementary principles" helps us to become mature Christians, rooted in Christ.

The list I gave is based on scriptures.

I would say the last one is just part of the gospel. As a baby christian, they need to know damnation is eternal for those who are condemned, But to those who are sved, it has no power of them, because they are no longer condemned, but secure in Christ.

For the time will come when they cannot endure sound doctrine, but will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears............many cannot even handle the milk......much less the meat....

Let's start with
1. foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God.

a. What are dead works?

B. Why do we need to repent of them?

C. What is meant by faith towards God?

I believe what you mentioned 1of them about learning of God's love, compassion ,mercy, and grace is part of the answer to C...having faith towards God.

I think dead works are works we as people try to do to save ourself. I think all of us before we truly repented thought we were made right with God by works we did if we were good people. we were in, If not we were out. We need to repent of them, and trust God for salvation.

We need to repent of them, because if we do not, we will keep tryign to work our way to heaven by trying to earn Gods forgiveness.

Faith towards God means to trust him completely to save our eternal souls. And stop trusting in self and our works..

Galatians 5
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Dead works we need to repent off.

Yes, you're right... I think it is all in the way it is presented.

I agree but many drink soured milk in that regard.

Galatians 4
You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.

Those are works of the flesh, Not sure they are dead works.. A dead work would be a work that has no power to save (I still believe the context is the gospel) No one in my mind would do those works, and expect to be saved by them..lol

To me, They were tryign to be justified by the law. They were not even drinking milk, they were drinking sulfuric acid.. Because they never trusted Christ, they went back to what they TRULY had faith in (the law)

Yes but some might think to be saved despite of them in that they don't really need to repent or strive to avoid them.

They are dead works....bible doesn't say folks do them to be saved but that folks need to repent of dead works.
