There are no magic bullets to finding thrills in life. The Bible can be a fascinating book, but it cannot guarantee that you'll be happy or satisfied. The best thing to do is just accept life and its struggles while doing the best you can.

Negative, Soldier. The Bible gives wisdom and understanding, but having a relationship with God in Jesus Christ is tangible; it brings a daily high that is invigorating, empowering and flat out awesome.

I think you can be guaranteed to be satisfied by applying God's Word to your life. This is all from God.. Godly satisfaction. In the soul/spirit. May not be an emotional high... but deep peace. Deeper peace than anything else.

Not like 'inner peace' or 'inner harmony' in mystic/new age circles.. because the source is different. Mystic.. source is the self.. deep peace for christianity.. from God working in your life to give rest, comfort and encouragement.

Seeking thrills instead of seeking God.

Seeking experiences like drug addicts seeking cocaine highs..

Rather then seeking to grow in the knowledge of salvation and seeking meat to be weaned from the milk..

[for me anyway] if we lack faith then we need to more abundantly hear the Word of God, seeing that faith comes only by hearing the Word of God.
hearing: i.e. submitting to and relying upon God's Word.

As for hindrances:

"Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you." (Galatians 5:7-8)

The persuasion to not obey the Truth does not come from the Lord.

REVELATION 3:15 I know what you have done, that you are neither cold nor hot.

I wish you were cold or hot.

... The Bible gives wisdom and understanding...
There may be some wisdom and understanding in the Bible, but much of it is foolishness and obfuscation. Few if any Christians obey its dictates which is a tacit admission that it is best not to live up to its teachings.

...but having a relationship with God in Jesus Christ is tangible...
Tangible? Then let's all see it.

...it brings a daily high that is invigorating, empowering and flat out awesome...
So does heroine.

Hi UnknownSolidier, welcome to CC!
Thanks, Dan!

What is your source for truth?
That's a tough question. As Pilate asked, "What is truth?" It appears that Jesus did not know the answer. Truth is tricky, and some people doubt there is any absolute truth. I believe there is truth, and I'd define it as an accurate assessment of reality. I do not considering magically parting seas, people surviving being swallowed by fish for three days, walking on water, and rising from the grave to be part of reality. As far as I can tell, such events are impossible.

As for a "source" of truth, I don't believe there is any one source. My five senses are good tools to know truth, and the word of other people can sometimes be a source of truth.

I hope I answered your question.

how do you decide if a person's words are true, if the only other source you accept is sensory data?

what do you see as the common ground between yourself and others on which to base discussions here at CC?

Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

Mat 27:11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.
Mat 27:12 And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
Mat 27:13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
Mat 27:14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

Joh 18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Joh 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Joh 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
Joh 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Joh 7:32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
Joh 7:45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
Joh 7:46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.

Jesus knew truth, and proclaimed truth, but He knew when to speak and when to be quiet and not say a word.

My love for God is as strong as ever, and will continue through eternity. The only thing that hinders me is people that judge me when God says do not judge- that is a sin.
