Oh Zone! You missed this forum turning into "misunderstanding and abduction of every thread into grace vs works" threads.

Some of these people ONLY post if they think the can repost for the trillionth time their understanding of soteriology. You could tell them a thousand times, and they would always go back to the way we are justified, instead of moving forward into sancification.

Because, as badly as some people understand your topic, they love to quote Eph. 2:8-9 and leave out Eph. 2:10

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Eph. 2:8-10

Zone is dealing with verse 10 in this thread, not verses 8 and 9, which everyone agrees with!

"What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." James 2:14-17

Caring for the poor is a MAJOR topic in the Bible and a major source of God's displeasure when we do not care for the poor. When we care for the poor that is an example of a good work!
I noticed that.

(1) The Thief on the cross died in the OT. The NT Salvation did not begin until the First Christian Service held in Jerusalem...The OT People saved was on God's Mercy and The Faith only..The NT has the Salvation Outlined in Acts Chapter Two..all born since then must obey what it teaches us to do in Acts 2 Verses 37-42

Yes - good works of some form will follow those that are in Christ for sure.

How that manifests in everyday life is between the Holy Spirit in us and us participating with Him. It should just be a natural response from our heart to help the poor and anyone in trouble.

Good works do not "create" salvation. Salvation creates good works inspired from the compassion of God within us. If we get the foundation right - then the rest of the house can be built properly and things will function the way they should.

It's interesting when they had the meeting of the "big guns of Christiandom" in Jerusalem - the apostles said to Paul - "and remember the poor" - of which Paul said:

Galatians 2:10 (NASB)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] They only asked us to remember the poor—the very thing I also was eager to do.

Helping the poor should be as natural for a believer in Christ as it is to breathe.

Yeah right...........the law and the prophets were UNTIL JOHN....JOHN was dead when the thief was crucified......

Sorry ZONE.....could not let this statement in error stand......

BACK to WORKS......and Angela's statement.....

Jesus said, "If you do it to one of these the least of my brethren you have done it unto me"....even a cup of cold water in the name of JESUS is a good work and will be rewarded eternally!

The so-called "workers for" are ones that say we must have works or we are not saved - in other words - if you do or not do certain things ( these things vary depending on our church upbringing teachings ) - then you are not saved.

It's the proverbial cart before the horse syndrome. This is trying to say that the cart ( works ) creates the horse. ( salvation in Christ )

It is true that if Christ is in you, you will bear fruit.
I have never seen people going through church membership lists asking for fruit.

I have seen people testing teachers and preachers for their fruit and the truth of
their words. And it is this testing that is actually being opposed and rejected.

Now I have not met anyone on cc who puts the cart before the horse, but I have met
many who accuse falsely others of this very same thing when there is no sign at all
of such a thing.

And in truth if you do not walk in purity and holiness, how can you know Christ?
The language is alien to me, because we have stopped using the idea the people
of God are a holy people, and being sexually immoral is not such a bad thing,
divorce, multiple kids in many families, it is just part of life.

Or porn and fantasy, it is just all ok, you have got to give in to fleshly desires.
Or a husband who needs porn to meet his needs, be simpathetic, you wife are
to blame. Or gay sexually active men, this is love, not sin.

So christianity without purity and holiness is not of the Holy Spirit.
We are temples of Christ. What place has sin got to do with a temple of the
Holy Spirit? But people though they sin, even getting angry here with others,
is not an issue, it is just part of their long walk with Christ and dealing with
evil people in unbelief.

And how many applaud this behaviour, talk about clearing out the church of
legalists, of a Jezebel spirit, or some other name.

And if someone raises the issue of the Holiness of the people of God, open
season. Yes false righteousness is a problem, but this attack is wrong, driven
by people who reject the true walk of Christ by Christs law.

And they have no shame. DIY faith and righteousness?
They have DIY theology and delusion, shown by their non-biblical language
and wrongly applied examples.

Always praying and giving thanks is a good work.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18English Standard Version (ESV)

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Being respectful to stay on topic is loving and kind....which would be a good work...

Sorry no bible verses that "Thou shalt not hijack threads to sprout your theology and bicker with thy brothers and sisters."

Making peace and helping each other grow is a good work.

Romans 14:19
So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.

That's a great thing, but I really have no idea how He's gonna do it.

(Matt 19:26)

But Jesus looked at [them] and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matt 5:16)

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. (Heb 13:16)

i like these verses for illustrating the purpose...

let your light shine -- good work-- so God is glorified.

share what you have -- good work-- so God is pleased.

we don't produce the light. we're more like the moon and reflect the Light. (i hope i do!)
