I never get anything spiritually out of church. This is going to sound really dumb but I get more spiritually out of watching good movies. Like I went to see La La Land and it really made me think about God. Idk if it was scenery or the quiet music or the emotion of it. Like in the movie the couple didn't stay together but if they had they could have had a wonderful life. It made me think about like what if I am doing that with God. The ending was very sad and made me think. I really think it had spiritual meaning to me. Do you think I'm on the right path or do you think I have some other spirits that aren't God affect me? Like should I be getting that out of a movie/hollywood or do you think I'm being affected by things other than God?

Nothing wrong with enjoying a good movie.

However, if you expect church to be as entertaining as a movie, you will be disappointed.

Church is a place you can worship God, learn to be part of the Body of Christ, learn more about the bible, make friends and fellowship, learn to use your spiritual gifts to serve others.

Why worry so much about other spirits? Your own heart can cause you enough trouble without worrying about the supernatural.

God created marriage and beautiful landscapes for a reason. Finding joy in such things isn't wrong,

I think that God in His kindness just decided to speak to you where you were...but don't stop going to church and don't expect God to speak to you through a movie(as a rule that is).

I don't either. Not all the time. Mostly, I go to give support to about 15 specific people that always seem to need someone to listen to them.

I do, however, really enjoy our preacher. LOL

I've watched some very poorly made movies, in which they actually tried NOT to show God at all, but in which I still saw Him!
There is really only one story - our story.
You can't write a love story without some sort of sacrifice.
You can't write any kind of suspense movie or action adventure movie without the element of good vs. evil.
Poison destroys innocence.
Bad guys wear black(darkness), good guys wear white (light).
You almost CAN'T tell a story without Him. :)

Yeah Idk I just think going to church is more of a stumbling block than anything for me. I look at people too much. I think its better if I spend time alone w God instead of going to church. Do you think that's wrong?

I don't think church is the best place for me to grow close to God. Church has always been a place of drama or anger for me.

I had a hard time staying at one particular church because I didn't feel a connection with people or that people really cared.

It took me a long time to find a loving church that I trusted and then for them to notice and include me.

I watched and saw how people interacte, trust was hard for me.

However I have learned it's more me than the church that had issues.

I spent a lot of time alone in prayer and Bible study, but truly is one hour a week that hard?

Maybe try small groups or Bible study instead? I found it easier to get to know people that way.

If you have the Holy Spirit, He is your teacher. He has some men not go out immediately to seek out other men. Follow the Spirit's leading and you'll wind up where He wants you. You don't need another man to teach you if you have the Spirit.

But sometimes He leads us somewhere, quite by chance, and we sense Him saying to go that way, not so that WE will get something out of it spiritually but rather so we can help someone else.

Some movies are used of God to speak to us----sometimes better than preachers----Find a good Church---you need to be trained in God's Word----you need to have fellowship with other believers...

Well personally i get a lot more out of sitting down and reading the Bible then i get out of going to any church.. Sadly most churches are glorified concert halls and others are all about ceremony and parroting.. The only time i liked church was when the preacher did a good sermon that was closely related to a portion of scripture... Most of the rest is just boring and pointless for me..

I can see why some movies might hit home in ones heart.. I really liked shawshank redemption for instance. And other movies leave me seeing deeper underlying messages that are like stealth sermons or parables that are related to the Message of God.. I also sometimes get a great surprise when listening to some music that is not on the surface ""christian"" music but are kind of like the movies Stealth Christianity :)

I also feel closer to the Lord at home alone with the bible and meditating on scripture. The Holy Spirit really does speak through your thoughts as you read. But I get close to the same feeling in a small home meeting of about 6 or 8 when there is much praying for each other.

Yet, I love the large congregations just to hear the many voices praising God together. And I love to hear the revelations that the Holy Spirit has given to another person (the pastor) concerning the Word. Find a church that the message really speaks to your spirit. I also found that as I grew in the Lord, I had a need for sometimes changing churches.

These are the questions I asked myself when joining a church:

1. Am I being ministered to?
2. Or is God using me in some way to minister to others?

If none of the above applied, I didn't stay.

You don't sound dumb at all girl. You are very smart, don't let men convince you otherwise.

The poets sometimes testify of God even if they themselves don't know it. While at the same time a lot of them churches are full of the same people that crucified the Christ and slew all the prophets.

Acts 17:24-28

[SUP]24 [/SUP]God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
[SUP]26 [/SUP]And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
[SUP]27 [/SUP]That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
[SUP]28 [/SUP]For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

Many churches anymore how shallow teaching, so it's no surprise you're getting nothing out of it.

As far as getting a message from a movie, it is possible. I wouldn't suggest relying on, or looking to movies for anything. But God used a talking donkey once, so He can use a movie. I remember, as an older teen, watching a Batman movie and the struggle with the two sides Bruce Wayne had to contend with and how they seemed to clash. It brought him a lot of inner turmoil. While watching that i got my first real insight and understanding of the battle between flesh and spirit.
So you do need to use caution, and make sure you aren't trying to apply things to movies, as that will be misleading. But if, from time to time, a movie speaks something to you, God may be using it.
But always be careful when emotion is involved. It's easy to confuse God and emotion.

Just out of curiosity, when you talk about not getting anything out of something spiritually, are you at all referring to that sense of His presence, like the feeling of waves washing over you and goosebumps?

Having been to a few churches in my time if I had expected a deep Spiritual experience on each occasion i would have
given up years ago. God is not restricted to Church and the Bible in conveying his message.

The film title makes me smile though because we had a Children's programme here with LaLa being one of the characters.

Find a better church.

World cant teach you about God. World is the enemy of God.

On the other hand, you can go to a church only for the sacraments and worhip and learn what you need from some Christian literature at home. I recommend the early Church writings and the reformation writings.

in the ministry of Jesus how much time did they spend in church? not much from what i remember.
i think everyone needs a good teacher, especially for the fundamentals. church is important for praise, worship and meeting in groups to praise the Most High. but i think it can also become a trap, it can become a ritual, the same ole same ole. the pharisees, who spent a lot of time in church, taught the laws, were experts on it but didnt know why they did it. it can also lead to thinking that only the one day is for the Lord, soon as you step out the church you go right back into your world. our world should be every day for the Lord.
i can connect better with the Lord in the woods, on a creek, or in a field, these are things created, designed and built by the Most High, a church is built by mankind. i like the Lords creation better.

It could be your assembly. Perhaqps you need another.

As for possibly being more spiritual due to a film, our Father's ways are not our ways. It well couldd be His way with you. He does come to each of us as He knows is our individual ideal manner. You will work out all things in Jesus Chris as long as He is guiding you.

God bless all your endeavor in Christ, amen.
