Sometimes I just sit and have a big ole conversation with God and you know, He listens. He really does. This am we discussed stuff that I regret and wish I could change and how I really don't want to even think about some of those things...they are not all my fault ~ sometimes we suffer because of others sinning against us...or we react sinfully towards others sinning against us...

Anyway, I have been reading and looking into I Peter...and I thought this am I would read another version...but before I did, I decided to click on a Bible devotional...honestly, I never do...but I did

And there, God answered me in the things I said to Him. He is really quite faithful in that way to me and always has been. You know, when you wonder if He hears you? Yes...He does hear. This, from the 'Bible League'...read it below, or follow this link to the SOURCE...left hand (facing) column

Based on this passage from Philippians 3: 12 ~ 14

. . I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
After the Apostle Paul's conversion experience, he began to "press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me." What did Jesus take hold of him for? It was to "know Christ--yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead" (Philippians 3:10-11). It was, in other words, to know the fullness of what it means to live, suffer, die, and be raised from the dead in Christ Jesus. Although he had not yet taken hold of it in its fullness, it was the goal toward which he pressed on so that once he reached it he would "win the prize" that God had waiting in heaven for him.

Before "straining toward what is ahead," Paul had to forget "what is behind." What he had in mind here is not reflection on the past in general, but only that which keeps one from pressing on into the future. As a former persecutor of the church, of course, Paul had more problematic memories than most.

It would be easy to imagine Paul going over and over in his mind the atrocities he visited on the church. It would be easy to imagine him consumed with regrets. That kind of remembering the past, however, is precisely what should be left behind, because it can keep you from going forward. Further, it needs to be left behind because it implicitly assumes that the atoning work of Jesus Christ never happened.

If regrets have you going over and over the past in futile quests to resolve them on your own, then consider that God remembers your sin no more (Isaiah 43:25). If God Himself can forget your sins, there is no reason for you to allow ugly memories to torment you and hinder you from pressing on into the future.

One thing I would like to note, Paul did not consider himself as having obtained...so he pressed on...this does not mean he thought he would loose salvation (I beg of you...let us not have that argument yet again)...he just wanted more of his Savior and less of himself.

so, thank you Heavenly Father for your words to me this am...I hope they help someone else too! :)

Good post!

Here is a scripture below in Isaiah 43:17-18 that speaks to your OP.

The battle is in the mind and the devil's name means "false accuser and also to throw through" as in throwing fiery darts of the past which inflame our minds and emotions.

Whenever we visit our past without factoring in the Blood of Jesus - we visit a lie because it doesn't exist in the mind of God. The Blood of Jesus shouts out our innocence. Man will remember it - the devil will remember it and throw it in your face.

I say let's agree with our loving Father as the Blood of Jesus speaks of better things. It speaks of better things than Abel's blood which cried out for "vengeance".

The Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ shouts out - "You are forgiven. I have removed it as far as the east is from the west. I will not, I will not remember your sins anymore."

The renewing of our minds to the truths in Christ and that we are a new creation IMO are necessary to walk out in this life what is already in us in Christ.

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NASB)
[SUP]18 [/SUP] "Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder things of the past.

[SUP]19 [/SUP] "Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.

a good response...thank you...the battle is indeed between our ears

I like what Paul wrote though and partly because he was most likely already in prison and had run what most of us would consider a race far better than any we could manage ourselves

God is good!

thanks

ps...merci for the rep...I don't think I deserve one...but more like God does LOL!

Hi Lauren! Good words and subject! yes it is only human to regret and wish we could change what we did in our past that caused our losses whether greater or smaller today. and many people are even trapped in their past unable to forgive themselves OR others. (unable to find a way of escape) aint it the truth!!

many older people especially live a life of regrets and the devil is more than ready to fuel human emotion with condemnation so he can actually take our usefulness for Jesus and trick us into shelving our lives. This causes a ship wreck for lack of faith in Jesus "procured" payment AND placement of the children of God (ALREADY PAID FOR DEBT) Many believers don't know the power of His resurrection and what it means and so they are what i've heard called "the willing captured"

Jesus gave us a way of escape and answer to this dilemma of our past sins (and our present sins) and our future sins. He gives wisdom because Jesus is wisdom personified. "His atoning work DID happen" and it will please and honor Him when we believe in His power over sin and His 100% payment for our freedom from sins guilt shame and condemnation. we no longer have death looming over us.

Jesus gives life and that MORE abundantly. to have faith in His love for us- His resurrection power means He succeeded and won...it is finished.

He took sin and its curse and nailed it to the cross killing its power in our lives. but we must accept by faith what He did - over and higher than what we did and how we feel about it. just like Peter had to do this so do we.

heard a song this morning and the words were very good, here are the words i most remember;

not because of what i've done but because of who You are
not because of who i am but because of what You've done

takes our eyes and puts them on Jesus on every subject., He has it covered.
;)

I actually get somewhat of a "shudder" passing through my being thinking of my past.

I am glad he is a "forward" God. His mercies and compassion is new every mourning.

I have learned, somewhat, what paul is saying "..but this I do,forgetting the past and pressing on to the future..."

To walk and actually feel HIS favor and approval overshadowing each step is so awesome. I have been in that awesome presence a few times. It is disarming and lovely at the same time.

Amen...then there is the time when the "accuser" attacks our minds with those thoughts that are not the truth because we are in Christ. This is when we stand in the armor of God - in all that Christ has already done for us.

I have noticed that the more established I am in the truths of what Christ has done - the less strength these "attacking thoughts" have on me. The renewing of the mind is so important for stability and in fighting the good fight of faith.

It takes faith and humility to agree with what our loving Father says about us because of our Lord Jesus Christ's work on the cross and resurrection and that we are new creations in Him.

The renewing of our minds to the new creation truths that are in Christ is paramount to walking free and fulfilling the call of God on our lives to express the love and grace of God towards others.
