Can someone give me any pointers on how to pick out a Greek interlinear bible?

Are you sure? It is really simple to use and a great resource. It will be many times better than a book because of the search features and the links on the words themselves.

Ah I checked out the concordance there. It does not let you look up the roots as with one you hold in your hands?

Yes. there are a few good ones for the PC. I use Wordsearch 10 and it has an advanced Greek/Hebrew interlinear on it that is great to use. I assume the others have them as well and yes - those do cost to buy them.

This will probably sound crazy but...I have become so used to using my strongs and God gives me the connections so...I am an old dog and should just stick to this. I thought an interlinear would be quicker but I am so set in my ways! I didn't want it to learn Greek but just as a faster concordance. Haha!

I can understand that. The problem with Strong's is that it is a book that shows how the KJV translators translated the words which may or may not be exactly that accurate. I just shows how the interpreters of the KJV used a word.

Strong's is the last one I look at when looking at a particular Greek word.

But if you feel comfortable - then use it for sure! The Holy Spirit will show you great things about Christ.

Oh yeah, I agree! Sometimes I look up a word and go backwards to all the roots and just say, whuuut?? It's like they picked the translation that LEAST conveys what that word with that root in that context should mean!

I agree....without relying on the Holy Spirit to reveal Christ to us - the understanding we can get from books may or may not be accurate and it can be based on our own human interpretation and natural wisdom.

All translations have some sort of bias to them when translating some words depending on their own church teachings and traditions and it happens too with the use of some words in the Greek interliners as well.

But it is a rich adventure to follow the Holy Spirit as we search out things.

If you want a hard copy of an interlinear -- the one I have and use a lot is a NASB, NIV and Greek interlinear by Alfred Marshall. You can find one on Amazon at a very reasonable price. My wife likes to use the Amplified Bible because it gives the definitions/parallels of the key words right in the text - you don't need to look them up in Strongs.

Before I abandoned an interlinear, I used the UBS interlinear. It has a side by side RSV next to it, which was one of the early modern English translations. It doesn't have notes. The English words are directly beneath the Greek, although sometimes the grammar makes it difficult to understand. My UBS Greek NT has all the manuscript variations, and which are the mostly likely variants. But the print is small, and those commas (breathing marks) go backwards and forwards over the vowels, and make a huge difference. If the light is dim, I practically need a magnifying glass to see the accent marks and breathing marks.

Accordance has absolutely everything, but it is outrageously expensive. I wish I had bought it when I started Greek, 6 years ago, but I never seem to have enough money to throw around to justify buying it. I think it comes for both PC and Mac.
