Hebrews 5
solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

What does the Bible say about licentiousness?

Have to take my son to the doctor and help out at school (at least I pray I can help and not hurt). Will be back when God allows.

Licentiousness means "without restraint, excess" and it refers to anything that is controlling people to do in excess - sometimes used in connection with sexual sins but can be used for things like over-eating...etc.

We need to read the verse before this one here to see exactly want solid food is - it's the word of righteousness.
The author is saying that those that partake of the milk is not accustomed to the "word of righteousness". Solid food is knowing the word of righteousness. Hebrews 5:13-14

Hebrews 5:13 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.

Not accustomedmeans "unacquainted with something." ( Complete Biblical Library Greek - English Dictionary )

Those trying to create and maintain their own righteousness by what they do or don't do - are still spiritual babies. They are not established in the "gift of righteousness" yet - which only comes by grace through faith in what Christ has already done. That He alone is our righteousness.

The Jews were notorious for trying to establish their own righteousness by the Law of Moses. Romans 10:1-5 - Remember this is the book written to Hebrews.

Heb. 5:14 - But solid food ( word of righteousness ) is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil ( Greek word for evil = bad, useless, worthless ).

The mature person in Christ knows when they are practicing the deeds "of His righteousness" which is the good - or doing deeds of righteousness "to be righteous" which are bad, evil, useless or worthless. This is the evil or useless side of Heb. 5:14

The writers of the Bible disapproved of licentiousness.

I agree...it's right in the same list with causing strife, having malice towards others and slandering others in the body of Christ....etc

LOL..yes..I suppose they are to some degree...it seems all the works of the flesh are related to each other in some form or other.
Yes! They are all directly related to self will and arrogance. You can play the game, 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon sort of. You will always find a link back to pride and self will.

I believe this refers to the Word. There are the gospels and the New Testament book of Grace and Faith, which is the milk and the meat is the Old Testament and it's books where the LORD God was close to the people, we don't see things today like we did back then but it can still happen, we walk with the Lord Jesus today and we can still see miracles like in the OT still happened in the NT and they still happen today to groups faith gathered together just like the day of the Apostles. People who discern good and evil and do good by the OT spiritual laws in their walk or run :p with Jesus.

I would like to hear any understanding you have received of the spirit of the OT laws!! :) Even if you think it is something very little, I'm all ears! :)

“Imagine yourself in a large house, in which are living both deaf and hearing people. They are all mixed together, and you can’t tell by looking who is deaf and who has hearing. Sitting in a room by himself is a man. As you watch, you notice that he is tapping his toes rhythmically and snapping his fingers in time. You know what is happening. He’s listening to music, and obviously enjoying himself. His whole body wants to respond to what his ears are receiving. There’s nothing strange or mysterious about it.

But now, let’s add a new person to the scene. One of the deaf persons opens the door and enters the room. He immediately sees the first man and walks over to him and smiles a greeting. The deaf man watches the music-lover for a few moments. ‘He sure seems to be enjoying himself,’ he thinks. ‘I think I’ll try it, too.’ So the deaf man sits next to the first man and begins to imitate him. Awkwardly and haltingly at first, he tries to snap his fingers, tap his toes, and move like the person next to him. Everybody has some sense of rhythm, whether they can hear or not. After a little practice, he deaf man is snapping and tapping in time with the first man. He even smiles a little and shrugs: ‘It’s not that much,’ he thinks, ‘but it’s okay'.

Let’s now add our final factor to the story. A third man walks into the room. What does he see? Two men, apparently doing the same thing. But is there a difference? Absolutely! All the difference in the world! The first man’s actions are natural responses to the music he hears. The deaf man is only imitating those outward actions–even though he can’t hear a thing. That is the difference between real Christianity and legalism.”

licentiousness is easy believism. It states, I believe in Christ. But it lives like the world. Like legalism, it is based on pride. Pride that says how dare you tell me these sins are evil. I will accept your jesus, but not your lifestyle.

It is spoken of in Jude.

[SUP]4 [/SUP]For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

They are hearers of the word but not doers. They claim to have faith, yet have no works. As James said, their faith was dead. They may PLAY CHURCH, but their lives do not reflect being a PART of the church, because they are not.

The ESV translates it as "sensuality". Which seems to speak more specifically to where that lack of restraint and excess is occurring.

Pure love doesn't require touch or sensuality, it is something that is felt and not sensed by the ordinary 5 senses. Let's call it your 6th sense and the universal language of love. You can enjoy the touch of sensuality with a spouse but other than that it's just living touching the living...or dead..., if you know what I mean. Every spiritual thing has an earthly equivalent it's just tuning your brain to the right wavelength, it takes prayer and fasting and especially fasting from the seasons of sin and I would not recommend it to any new believer. It's tough but crucifying the flesh is the biggest step toward to being submitted to God's will every moment, it is a never ending work in progress...at least not ending in this lifetime :) hope that helps! The key to Heaven is love, love, love and you can live and laugh all the way there. Jesus will wipe every sad and happy tear from your eye, it is written as a reminder of a promise to us.

Excuse me for talking in a parable context, I am not politically correct haha

I think I perceive that you are talking of the fasts God puts us on in spirit and truth? Where we don't sense His presence for periods of time? :)
