Hey folks.. wanting some advice on my Christian walk.. do we go by Jesus' teachings or Paul's? I've been watching Robert Breakers online serimonies and he says Jesus taught the Jews only and he was Old Testament and that Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are not how we should live as they are Old Testament and to go by Paul's teachings.. ?? Need some advice on this from mature Christians.. I'm the only person in my family that is saved and can't always get talking to my pastor so I'm thankful I have you guys for all my silly questions xo

I say look into both teachings, you can learn about Jesus life in the four gospels as well as more teachings about Jesus and what Paul went through and letters to churches.. Really you should read all the scriptures to learn much as you can...

Ummmm.....the teaching of Paul is the teaching of JESUS and any Pastor, Preacher etc. who makes a distinction between the two, is not worth a grain of salt.....

Paul was taught by direct revelation form Jesus!

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Really this should answer the question. God is the Author of scripture.

Sometimes Jesus spoke the law too those that think they had no sin - to elevate the law to expose their sin. He would say things like 'You have heard it said that to commit adultery is breaking the law but I say that even if a person lusts - they have committed adultery."

Jesus was born under the law and lived under the law to redeem them that were under the law.

Jesus gave words of grace to those that knew they needed a Savior - which was usually what we would call "the bad sinners".

For instance - a certain lawyer of the law man came and asked Jesus "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" Luke 10:25. We all know the real answer is to "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ" John 3:16 Acts 10:31. BUT because this man was a lawyer of the law and wanted to know what he must "do" - Jesus game him the law of Moses.

Jesus also did it for the rich young ruler who thought he had kept all the commandments but Jesus exposed the fact that he had broken the very first one - because the rich man had money as his "god".

When looking at the words of Jesus - we have to look at who He was talking to and keep the New Covenant in our minds.

I will write about Paul next. But it boils down to that all the words of Jesus are for us to learn things by but not all the words of Jesus are to us. When Jesus called the Pharisees - "You brood of vipers and snakes." He was not talking to His disciples so we don't apply those words of Jesus to His children.

[for me anyway] it was the Holy Spirit of Truth speaking through Paul as well as everyone else; therefore such an idea is imagination, and ought to be cast down: even our Lord tells us plainly that what He says He says because His Father told Him what to say and what to speak. There is a reason why what Paul wrote is scripture, and what we say is not: we must needs learn to stop thinking above that which is written, to rid ourselves of exaggeration and over-estimation.

The 4 gospels were eyewitness accounts of the historical events in the life and ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christianity is based on the veracity of these events as having occurred in real time, in all historicity and specificity.

Nevertheless it is the unveiling of the spiritual realities of these events that relates to the believer in Christ. This is found in the revelation that the Lord Jesus Christ gave to the apostle Paul.

The 4 gospels are the proclamation of the gospel. They disclose to us what men saw. Acts of the apostles is the demonstration of the gospel, but it is Paul's letters which give us an explanation of the gospel. It is the Pauline Epistles that are the constitution of this church age.

Paul's epistles explain what happened from the cross, death, burial, quickening and resurrection to the being seated at the right hand of the Father. Without these epistles we would have no idea what Jesus our Lord actually accomplished for us.

Paul was taught by Jesus Christ Himself to explain His gospel = to reveal the mystery that was hidden in God until it was revealed by Christ to Paul. The mystery being Christ Himself and the riches of that glory is that Christ is in us and we are in Him!

Hi Mimi,

You're questions are not silly. This is an honest question and seeking truth :) I asked lots of questions when I became a believer. I really think my teachers were thinking, "oh no, she's here again." :)

Actually we go by all of scripture. We need the old and the new testament. In fact when Paul used the scriptures it was the old testament. When Timothy said that scriptures were inspired by God and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and for training in righteousness, he was speaking of the old testament.

Jesus is our teacher not just the teacher for the Jews. Jesus brought the gospel of the kingdom of God to earth and in Matthew it repeats that the gospel of the kingdom of God has come through the preaching of Jesus. Don't
believe some crazy teachings that separates the scriptures from one another.

Jesus fulfilled the law, but He didn't say for us to now throw out the old testament, you don't need it anymore.

Here's what Paul said in Hebrews 11:1 Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.

Yes.. Paul's teachings were inspired by God, who inspired Him to write what he did. Paul's teachings are mostly about the resurrected Jesus. Paul quotes Jesus in his books he wrote.

Of course you can go straight to what Jesus said in the NT and follow that. That is a great thing to do! But His full ministry and truth is in the whole NT. And of course in the OT they were foreshadowing Him.

Same goes for Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They were all about writing and Jesus and His teachings.

Inseperable.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Yes! :)
And Jesus said He did not come to do away with the law, but to fulfill it inside of us. And He said that anyone who tries to do away with even the least of the law will be counted as little in the kingdom but whoever keeps the law and teaches it will be called greatest.

But He taught that the law was for our inside, when He taught on the law in the gospels (concerning murder, adultery, coveting, etc.) He taught the law correctly, the spirit of the law, not the letter.

It's important to remember that all scripture is written "for" us - but not all scripture is written "to" us. There is a vast difference and the Holy Spirit within you will guide you in all truth and reveal Christ to you.

"A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly."
Jesus did not answer a word.
So his disciples came to him and urged him, "Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us."
He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel."
The woman came and knelt before him. "Lord, help me!" she said.
He replied, "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs."

Mt 15:22

Quite unpleasant words.
The mission of Christ was different from that of Paul. But actually, what teaching exactly is different?

we all have our ups and downs, When you get down, do not focus on it, Confess it (which is the right thing to do and is for your benefit, as you acknowledge what you did was sin) and move on, Your forgiven already..
