Did we just veer off into hyper grace again?
Not necessarily, its more of a critique of sin confession for forgiveness and comparing it to our justification by faith in Christ. The verse in the original post speaks of people's sins and people still being dead in them if Christ has not risen, making their faith vain. One must note that Christ is risen and therefore the people are not in their sins and their faith isn't vain.

So, if sin confession for forgiveness (our eternal justification before God, our salvation) is a true and genuine doctrine, how does this line up with Christ's atonement? His blood that cleanses us from all unrighteousness? It cannot be sins only prior to believing in Jesus, but must be all sin.

Hence, if Christ be not risen their faith is vain and they are still in their sins. If they are still in their sins, do you suppose the author was speaking of only their sins prior to conversion or even those after believing in the Gospel? If it isn't the most recent sin included, we run into problems with certain scriptures like the one in the OP.

I am not against sin confession, but I am opposed to any false gospel that tries to supersede Christ's sacrifice on the cross, and resurrection for our eternal salvation. Its sin confession for forgiveness that I take issue with because its almost as if Christ didn't die and resurrect and accomplish the very thing He set out to do. Tear the veil in twain, reconciling us to God taking care of the issue of sin that alienated us.

However, sin confession for forgiveness attempts to contradict this truth, and dare I say, trample underfoot the Son of God. Just as people sought to still sacrifice in the temple for forgiveness, so is sin confession for forgiveness seeking another means to find forgiveness when there is but one sacrifice. Jesus.

For clarification, I am not opposed to sin confession. One is to be fully transparent with the Lord, having no door shut. It is the intent of the confession that I take issue with, for to seek forgiveness is to not realize what Jesus has accomplished on our behalf. We are forgiven. We are reconciled. We are justified. These things we are, in the now. It isn't something we seek, but is something we have received. Praise God.

There is a doctrine called the grace revolution that says it is not the convicting power of the Holy Spirit, but the Devil that is putting you under condemnation when you sin.
Wow... well they better be 100% correct in that doctrine because if they are wrong then they have just declared a doctrine that blasphemes the Holy Spirit..

As far as i believe the Holy Spirit will cause one to remember and will give one dreams that will show a new Christian the sins they need to acknowledge / repent... People must acknowledge their sins as sins and thus trust in the forgiveness of the LORD Jesus Christ for those sins..

When I find myself thinking in any way that is or has been dishonoring to Christ I acknowledge this to Him as well as myself. I thank God that He sent Jesus to cover all my sins. I'm not only reminded freshly that Jesus is alive right now being my Advocate but also that the Holy Spirit is working in me teaching about the love and grace of God Jesus bought for me to have.

(got timed out) The Bible says satan is the accuser of the brethren. Many Christians feel guilt and accusation and think its the Holy Spirit., when really it is satan the accuser.

Knowing this truth is knowing that if you are being condemned and beaten down that is NOT the Holy Spirit. He will tell you to go to the throne of grace and you will find help in time of need (not condemnation) Jesus took that too. There is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus.

[h=1]Romans 8:1New American Standard Bible (NASB)[/h] [h=3]Deliverance from Bondage[/h]8 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

When we finally see what Jesus has down for us - our spiritual lives change dramatically. Our devotion to the Lord magnifies and our union with Him becomes more cemented in our minds.

When we see that once we are "in Him" - the forgiveness of sins is always there because of Him and His blood that cleanses us from all sin. "In Him we have redemption - the forgiveness of sins".

Does that want to make us go out and sin all we want? No, a thousand times no! It does the complete opposite. It releases His life in us to walk with Him in the power and grace of the Holy Spirit and sinning falls off of our behavior like dead leaves off a tree.

Sometimes we think some truths are new but in reality they are not. Here is someone back in the 1800's that had a supposedly "heretical" understanding of grace in the form of our sins being forgiven and those sins were continually being washed by the blood of Jesus because we are "in Him" after we come to Christ and have acknowledged we had sins and needed a Savior.

I was reading one morning about a hymn writer from the 1800's called Frances Ridley Havergal. She wrote many hymns and knew Latin, French, German, Greek and Hebrew.

She also knew by heart the 4 gospels, epistles and the book of Revelation by the time she was 23 years old - yet she still lived in total defeat. She thought she had "great wickedness in her heart" - because of religious traditions taught to her.

It wasn't until she was reading in the Greek that the present tense was used for 1 John 1:7 "...His blood cleanseth us from all sin".

She realized all her sins were forgiven by the blood of Jesus and thus she believed it and experienced peace and joy in her life because of this truth.

Here is a direct QUOTE:

" Have we not been limiting 1 John 1:7 , by practically making it refer only to "remission of sins that are past" instead of taking the grand simplicity of "cleanseth from all sin"?

"All" is all; and as we may trust Him to cleanse us from the stain of past sins so we may trust Him to cleanse us from all present defilement; yes, all!

By refusing to take 1 John 1:7 in it's fullness, we will lose the fullness of it's application and power in our lives. It goes on cleansing , and I have no words to tell how my heart rejoices in it."

UNQUOTE:

She got the revelation that all her sins were forgiven because she was in Christ and in the Light and His blood continually cleansed her.

She was able to walk free in Christ from that point on. Today she would be called a heretic and being in error by some for having this belief.

Believing the true gospel will change us as we grow in His grace.

Yes, this amazing woman was a prodigy. Can you imagine the kind of mind able to memorize whole chapters of the Bible? AND in different languages?!?? I can't imagine what that would even be like.

She wrote such well known hymns that many of us know from singing in church "Like A River Glorious"
"Take My Life, and Let It Be" We sang these 2 especially in our Baptist churches for years and they are found in most hymnals if you look. Frances Ridley Havergal wrote many more but I'm not able to remember them but am sure have sung them many times without even knowing.

Yes, she would mistakenly be called a heretic by some here on CC but they would have to realize Pastor Joseph Prince and many other grace preachers and teachers were not born when Miss Havergal was living.

These truths in the Bible are there for any who are willing to open their hearts and learn. And they would be so blessed to know how much Jesus loved them so unconditionally.. so graciously.

People, try as they must, attempt to come up with all these means of dealing with sin or else but what we see here is simply faith in Christ. Its amazing the simplicity of the Gospel. To think that often times people preach the necessity of sin confession for forgiveness when we clearly see throughout scripture that our forgiveness (and justification) is found through our faith in what Jesus did on our behalf (His death and resurrection). Even in the scripture above we clearly see the necessity of Christ's resurrection and their forgiveness for their present sins. No mention of sin confession, penance, or repentance beyond faith in Jesus. If He is risen and you have faith in Him, your sins are forgiven.
when you LACK faith in God you are stuck with your sin.. thus you have to come up with all these ways that feel good inside (religion) to make those sins go away..

The worlds way is to do some sort of work to pay of your sin debt. And this is where they all come from.

Also, it is not new, It poisoned the Jewish system, and it poisoned the church.. I feel it is a seed of Satan. Half truths, which feel good to people.. things you can see taste and feel.. Is much easier to handle for a person who does not have faith then BLIND faith in something you can not see taste or feel..
