While reading the Bible this morning I came across a verse I had a hard time understanding and I thought maybe somebody on here could help. The verse in question states "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." I reread it a few times hoping to gain a better understanding and what I've come up with is that it means Jesus comes back when nobody expects him to, when nobody thinks he will. So does this mean that Jesus will wait until a time where so many are in unbelief and don't think he's coming back, or is there some other explanation for it?

Maybe the disciples expected a speedy return....and Jesus was saying, "it will be a bit further down the line than you think"

Or maybe arms stood on his part and by them the daily sacrifice was taken away?

Christians in every generation have lived expecting Jesus imminent return. As well they should have, as well we should. It is impossible to be caught by surprise by the arrival of someone you are actively looking for and expecting at any moment.

This means there will be a Rapture----- we know when the Second Coming of Christ is----- 1260 days from the Abomination of Desolation in the middle of the Tribulation...

[h=1]Matthew 24:42-44Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)[/h]42 Therefore be alert, since you don’t know what day[a] your Lord is coming. 43 But know this: If the homeowner had known what time[b] the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into. 44 This is why you also must be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

It pretty much means what it says and since there is no way to know when Jesus will return. We have scripture telling us what will happen in the end of days and ever since leading up to the temple's destruction we have been in the birth pains of the end of times. So for like 1947 years since the temple destruction in 70 a.d. we are in the end of times. Scripture tells us Jesus will return soon. And to us soon must be on a different time scale than heaven's

So there is no way to know his return. This is why we must always be ready. God is a patient loving forgiving God and

[h=1]2 Peter 3:8-10Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)[/h]8 Dear friends, don’t let this one thing escape you: With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 9 The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.
10 But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief;[a] on that day the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed.

God is not waiting for a time when unbelief is high. That's expected for the end of times. But ironically he is patiently waiting for as many of his children to turn and follow him. What a beautiful picture of a loving father.

As Christ also told us is that the times shall be also as in the days of Noah, when the majority of mankind was unbelievers, and were going about their daily business and routines, and knew not until the flood came: God was not at all in their thoughts.

I'm in the middle of reading the entire book of Mathew, and eventually reading the entire Bible cover to cover. This morning I read Mathew 23 and 24, I understand that it talks about Jesus's return, 37-42 compares his return to the times of Noah, where they went about their lives not believing what he said, and not realizing he spoke the truth until it was too late. I still had a bit of trouble understanding it

Well,I can tell you this.

It begins with Jesus talking privetely to his disciples. They ask Jesus 3 questions.

Simple,right?

Nope, there are actual arguments with some who omit that foundation, and exploit the entire chapter with diverse, bizarre doctrines.

Ask them how many questions the disciples ask.

Then watch some stumble over it

Hi
Samual,

He says we'll know the season, but we won't know the day nor the hour. So be ready always. Always be prepared and don't get spiritually lazy.

Likening it unto Noah's day it shows that the world would continue with their everyday life. They get married, they eat and drink - life goes on as usual for them.

Even through Noah was building an ark to save himself and his family, the world didn't believe and they just kept on with living apart from God. They were oblivious to the danger and judgment that was about to come upon them even though Noah preached to them.

It's another example with the same lesson as the next two parables. Be ready and be prepared. You know you're Lord is returning for you so make sure you continue to live holy and obedient. Don't lose hope, He really is returning for us. Don't become complacent.

This I think is why many believe in the pre-trib rapture..... If Jesus came mid-trib, you would know it would be 3 1/2 years right after the tribulation begins. If it was post trib, it would be right after the tribulation. Pre trib will only be known by the season (last day events) leading up to the tribulation.

Just something to think about.:)

I read somewhere that it has to do with the New Year festival which is connected with the day of judgement. The exact start of the New Year was when the New Moon was sighted. This could be any time over a period of two days so a saying was that no one knew the day or the hour.

I think it means that you should repent of your sin now, because the next sin you commit might be the one that destroys your life.

It means that all those folks freaking out and claiming to understand the end times signs, have it wrong.

God wants us to live as if He could come back today for tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Well today many don't believe He is going to come back.. Some even believe all that happened around 70ad in a ""spiritual way"" rather then an actual physical return of Jesus.. And Jesus did lament saying about the times of His return..

Luke 18 KJV
[SUP]8 [/SUP]I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

And prophecy does talk about a great falling away at the end timesso it is no surprise that most people will be surprised by His return

Dealing only with the question in your OP. If anyone tries to tell you they know the day the Eastern Sky will split, and Christ will return.....they are a liar and there is no truth in them.

Signs? Sure...... BUT that DAY, that HOUR is known by NO MAN!

Hope that helps

Matthew
24

1 .) And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2 .) And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 .) And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 .) And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 .) For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 .) And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 .) For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 .) All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 .) Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 .) And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 .) And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 .) And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 .) But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 .) And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15 .) When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand
16 .) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
17 .) Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
18 .) Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
19 .) And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
20 .) But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
21 .) For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 .) And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
23 .) Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 .) For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 .) Behold, I have told you before.
26 .) Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 .) For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28 .) For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 .) Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 .) And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 .) And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 .) Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 .) So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 .) Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35 .) Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36 .) But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 .) But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 .) For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 .) And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 .) Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 .) Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 .) Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 .) But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 .) Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 .) Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 .) Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 .) Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 .) But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 .) And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 .) The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 .) And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
