I thought it would be fun to retell the stories in the Bible as if telling it to a small child.

You can either write your own or post a copy of your favorites with citations in case we want to get a copy of the book. Or even post pictures or videos of the stories.

Hoping to compile some good resources.

Stories to choose from just to begin discussion. I will add more topics as we go.

1. Creation
2. Garden of Eden
3. Cain & Abel
4. Tower of Babel
5. Noah & the flood

What's also fun to do is read in simplified version one of the stories. A little while later, ask the child to tell you about the story.

Once I asked a child of about 10 what mercy meant. She replied "help, help"

"Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away there was a revolt among the administrators of the star colonies.
There was a space cadet who thought he knew better than the big giant head..."

Like that?

Ok, so how many of you have ever enjoyed a tea party, or a picnic? Or how about a meal, one that was tasty to your tummy?
Do you remember how each of these had to first be setup, in order to truly enjoy the meal, picnic, or party? Well, I want to tell you about Someone who prepared a very, very BIG event... and without much to work with, at first.

If you ever held a tea party with your stuffed animals, I wonder if you felt sad to have them with you, or if you felt happy, knowing that you had such company. Sure, we know it was pretend, but it still brought you joy, right? Well, the Someone who created the Very Big Event, that Someone, invites you today-- because your company brings Someone, (God, in fact,) Great Joy. And, did you know, you are more special to God than your favorite toy has ever been to you?

...work on later.

Sounds like you are working with children, but all those bible stories that I heard as a child were interesting, but never really applicable. Didn't change the pattern of my days.

What made a difference in my grandchildren was actually praying with them about their problems, and they saw how God worked in their life. Or they heard a testimony from a family member how God answered their prayers.

The important thing is to teach them to "listen". Children are so open to the voice of God, and we fail in this regard. We are too busy telling them things.

One day my grandson, age 4, had a sore on his finger, and I offered to pray that Jesus would touch his finger and make it well. He asked how could Jesus touch his finger when he was inside of his heart. Instead of giving him all the "abstract" answers adults can come up with, I asked him to close his eyes and ask Jesus how He could do it.

The first thing he said was that he heard music - and then he said that Jesus told him that He crawled out of his heart, into his shoulder and down his arm to the finger and touched it. Then crawled back into his heart. That taught me something - begin to teach the children to listen and tell you what thoughts they have. They will generally be concrete ideas, because the ability to process abstract ideas comes as they get older.

Teach the children to exercise that spiritual listening ear. Then as they grow older, they will truly have the counsel of the Lord as they pray.

Excellent point. Sometimes kids teach us more than we teach them concerning faith and trust in God.
