Hello, I was wondering what the different types of Bible were available. Also I am wondering if anyone has seen or heard about a compacted, reduced version for reference, e,g, Chronicles- with all the names left out and the messages kept etc. For quick reference and brain refreshing etc that's like a small cut down version. Thanks.

You may want a Bible specifically written for teenagers.

I have 3, but find that carrying a whole Bible, or looking at a phone screen all day is not very practical or comfortable.I have a short memory that is a little annoying sometimes also. I thought there would be a refresher version etc because alot of Chronicles or similar, are lists and names that are not mentioned I any of the messages, other than they were born etc.

You can get slimline compact bibles that will fit in a coat pocket very easily. And you have the bonus of having all the words that God intended for you to have. Unless you don't want that?

Stick with the KJV. It's not like no one is forcing you to read it word for word. You can skimmed past the parts that you are not interested in reading.

I read the Psalms and the Proverbs in small portions for my daily readings for my brain refreshing, but it is good to highlight passages in the N.T. that are His promises to you like this one...

1 John 3:[SUP]3 [/SUP]And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.....[SUP]8 [/SUP]He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

2 Timothy 4:[SUP]18 [/SUP]And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Jude 1:[SUP]24 [/SUP]Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,[SUP]25 [/SUP]To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

True, I can skim, but the pocket versions I have found are narrow but as long as a DVD case. Or keyring size but not full needing a magnifying glass. Not much in between except new testament & Psalms. Not old as well. Unless alot larger. Or the nano jewelry Bible pops up in the search.

Read few several chapters of Genesis and the New Testament.

And look, you have a compacted version now :D

Have you checked any used book stores? I don't know about a a compacted full
Bible, but I have one that is quite small (about three and a half by five inches,
and not very thick) that is the complete NT plus the Psalms and Proverbs as well.

Even if you were to cut out the genealogies, most of the Bible would be left intact. I doubt if such a book exists.

It's not just geneaoligies, Psalms has alot of Psalms that have parts in between that do not apply or are not applicable to us as new covenant followers. The book of acts mentions the gospel acts. The gospels are nearly the same and one is a researched composition of the others. There's probably more that repeats alot. Nevermind though, your probably right saying there's not a reduced version other than the new testament and Psalms etc.

Yes, but though some of the Old Testament was directed at the Jews, I believe, much of it was directed towards everybody. It's all woven together. I don't see how you can separate it. The gospels have their similarities - how could they not? - and are repetitious in some spots, but everything the Lord said in those gospels has great import. And I'm not aware of hardly anything in the book of Acts that is mentioned anywhere else in the Bible.

WOW! WHAT A GREAT IDEA!

Leave God's Name, Jesus's Name, and the names of the Prophets and Apostles out of the Bible! But keep the messages........gee, why didn'a I think of that!

That way folks could INSERT whatever name they want, and credit THAT PERSON for the messages that remain!

GREAT IDEA!

If the the bible doesn't have the basic truth and Gospel than it isn't a bible, there's lots of different versions with different veiws on different doctrines but if you just read your bible and pray for Gods spirit you will be blessed.

Holman's (HCSB) has a nice pocket version I still use as a carry Bible. I like the translation more and more as I read it, too!

As for the Psalms, you are totally wrong to think any of them can be left out. When I went through a hard time in my life, God told me to read 5 Psalms a day! They changed my theology, brought me closer to God and through that difficult time. I still read a Psalm every day, (going on 12 years!) in addition to 3 of the OT and 3 of the NT. There is a reason that Gideon's, who give away Bibles, put them in hotel rooms, have a pocket version of the NT which includes the Psalms. Because lonely people in hotel rooms can find hope and encouragement in the Psalms.

You might want to get a pocket version of Gideon's. They are free, but they do miss most of the Old Testament.

Oh, thin paper helps make it smaller. I read my Bible at home, and have used thick, heavy study Bibles for many years now. So I do get what you are saying! You might want to search Amazon, Lifeway or Zondervan (ESV) to see what they carry, including weight and size.

If you are wondering about translations, anything modern and readable is best. ESV, NIV, NASB, HCSB, even NET are good. Stay away from KJV. It really is a different language, and not the best translation in terms of manuscript evidence and using not using understandable English!

Thanks for the hints. In regards to the Psalms, I meant that some of the Psalms say things like ; destroy my enemies, show your wrath to all mine enemies, protect Israel etc. In the new testament, evil is the only enemy. Jesus said forgive your enemies. And I'm not Israeli etc. So certain parts of Psalms seem irrelevant to the non-israeli and Christian.

you can get Judges & Ruth in graphic novel comic-book form right now, with more books, eventually the whole Bible, the aim of the man who's produced them.

if i ever think scripture seems irrelevant to me, i assume the fault is not with scripture, but with my comprehension of it.

For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears,
many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.

(Philippians 3:18)

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
(Ephesians 6:12
)

just, for example - if i thought the Psalm has no meaning for me, because David prays to God with regard to his enemies, plural, but i thought i only had one enemy, singular - i am forgetting that there are many enemies, many false teachers, false prophets, tempters and persecutors - that evil and wickedness does not reside and act in only one person. i forget that within my own flesh there are many parts crucified, and that even more, though these are earthly things and my struggle is with spiritual foes, there are many powers, and many forces. a third of the stars of heaven were swept by the dragon's tail, and the antichrist also has his prophet.
it would be as though i faced Nazi Germany, and said "i only have one enemy, Hitler" -- not comprehending that Hitler himself possessed an army.

I'm not sure it's worth getting if they're r only two books. Besides a comic is bigger than most Bibles unless screwed up etc. Also, it shows images of negativity that put "fears" n worries into people's minds. Etc.
