Hey guys i have read some chapters of bible. Content in bible especially the old testament gives an impression of condoning animal a abuse and sacrifice and stuff. .i am not coming at any conclusions here. Looking for SeCond opinion. Please don't be harsh. Just an honest question
The Bible does not condone animal abuse. In the Old Testament, God did allow/command animal sacrifice, but only because it was either that or allow humans to face eternal punishment. When God created the world, death wasn't in it. It was only when Adam ate from the tree of knowledge that death entered the world. 1 Corinthians 14: 21, "For since by man came death..."
It was because of humans that not only humans died, but animals began to die as well. Presumably since death wasn't in the world, before humans sinned and allowed death to enter the world carnivores didn't hunt prey and humans didn't eat meat (unless God made steak for them without killing any animals).
A just God cannot allow sin to go unpunished. Justice must be done. However, humans are more important than animals. That doesn't mean that animals aren't important, too. I'm a vegetarian and I don't believe animals should be killed unless someone needs to do so for food. However, we were made in the image of God, and animals weren't. And Jesus says that we're more important than the sparrows (Matthew 10:31). Humans didn't deserve mercy for what they did. They allowed sin into the world, and that cause everything, not just humanity to fall. But God loved us and because of His love, He made a way for humans to be saved from their sin. Sin requires payment. Animal sacrifice had to be performed to make atonement for sins. Hebrews 9: 22 "Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins." Humans couldn't die for themselves because they were sinful. Their blood could never pay enough because it wasn't innocent. An animal had to die in our place.
However, these sacrifices foreshadowed a time when Christ, a human (and God's own son) who was completely without sin, would die in our place, ending the need for all animal sacrifice. Hebrews 7:27, "He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for His own sins and then for those of the people, since He did this once for all when he offered up himself."
Animal sacrifice wasn't God's original plan, but because of humans messing up, it became necessary. However, even though it was necessary, God didn't stop caring for animals. Matthew 6:26 "Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?"
He expected humans to care for them, too. Proverbs 12:10 "A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal..." Proverbs 27:23, "Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds."
Exodus 23:5 "If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden, and you would refrain from helping it, you shall surely help him with it." People aren't supposed to let animals be burdened down with too much, regardless of who the animal belongs to.
He commands us to let animals rest on the Sabbath. "Six days you shall do your work and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox an donkey may rest..." Exodus 23:12.
The Bible is clear that God cares for animals and expects us to care for them, as well.
