The scriptures don't condone animal abuse. However in those times animals were sacrificed for the sins of the people. This is before Christ came & was something that had to regularly take place. Once Christ came and died for all of mankind the debt of sin was paid in full for all forever there was no more need to sacrifice animals he became the sacrifice for all.. As he said in John 19:30 - "It is finished."

I find the teaching in Revelation has a lot to do with not being abusive to animals. Man is given domain over all animals, but this is not to be understood as to dewtroy them for in Revelation it says when our Lord returns the first thing He will do is destroy the destroyers. Animals are a give from God to care for when they are under our power, even livestock for it is the food of most............ I believe I have learned a lot about God's love from certain pets, but that is my take on them. I know the more I spoil my dog, the more I want to.......she loves me no matter what, somy conscience obliges me to love her right back.

I don't think God likes animals being needlessly hurt.

animal sacrifice? yes, it is commanded for those under the old covenant.

Hi Iamstuck,

Proverbs 12:10
A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal,

But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.

In reference to the animal sacrifices, no one could be more kind and gentle in carrying out the death of the animals for sacrifice than God Himself.

The sacrifices were eaten. It wasn't just kill the animal and throw it away. The sacrifices were a type and shadow of Christ, but the point is, the people in the wilderness had to eat.

What part are you opposed to?

If you eat meat, an animal is being sacrificed for you.......you purchase the meat from the grocery store so you can have meat to eat during the week. That animal is sacrificing it's life for you and gives you life in the natural.

Jesus sacrificed His life for us so that we could have spiritual life in Him. Symbolically we eat of the body of Christ and we drink of the blood of Christ. The life is in the blood, therefore we have life in Christ.

I'm not aware the Bible speaks specifically about animal abuse, but if I see it, I call the animal control people and let them know.

You must make certain what your are seeing. Once I had a dog that had been abused, and when I would walk him I had to be very creful, for a time, just how I moved or directed him because he would yelp for no apparent reason....someone acused me of abuse, but only to me, and I could not explaine the situation because the person was on a roof almost a block away...so be sure before you accuse.

Of course God would not condone animal abuse because that would be cruel behavior, but in the Old Testament they sacrificed animals to cover their sins, for without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins, and the priest got to eat the meat, like when they sacrificed the lamb in Egypt, and put the blood on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, they got to eat of the lamb, for although the animals were to cover the sins of them,God was not going to waste a lot of meat, but the meat served the purpose of feeding the priests.

In the New Testament Jesus as a sinless man sacrificed His human body that washes away sins, and replaces animals, for animals could not wash away sins, only cover sins, and Jesus gave the reference to eat of His body, and His blood, which is to acknowledge His sacrifice, and to take of the Eucharist in remembrance of Him.

God would not condone animal sacrifice for that would be cruel behavior, for that would not be a person pleasing to God,and animal sacrifice not only covered people's sins, but served the purpose of feeding the priests, which they have to eat anyway, for God is not going to allow a bunch of meat to go to waste, piling up,but put it to good use,for only the blood was used to cover sins, not the meat.

animal sacrifice? yes, it is commanded for those under the old covenant.
It was a schoolmaster to lead us to Christ. The animal sacrifices taught the lesson that sin requires blood...

1Jn 3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.

Heb 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year.
Heb 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.
Heb 10:5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU DID NOT DESIRE, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME.
Heb 10:6 IN BURNT OFFERINGS AND SACRIFICES FOR SIN YOU HAD NO PLEASURE.
Heb 10:7 THEN I SAID, 'BEHOLD, I HAVE COME— IN THE VOLUME OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME— TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.' "
Heb 10:8 Previously saying, "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING, BURNT OFFERINGS, AND OFFERINGS FOR SIN YOU DID NOT DESIRE, NOR HAD PLEASURE IN THEM" (which are offered according to the law),
Heb 10:9 then He said, "BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD." He takes away the first that He may establish the second.
Heb 10:10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

The Bible does not condone animal abuse. In the Old Testament, God did allow/command animal sacrifice, but only because it was either that or allow humans to face eternal punishment. When God created the world, death wasn't in it. It was only when Adam ate from the tree of knowledge that death entered the world. 1 Corinthians 14: 21, "For since by man came death..."
It was because of humans that not only humans died, but animals began to die as well. Presumably since death wasn't in the world, before humans sinned and allowed death to enter the world carnivores didn't hunt prey and humans didn't eat meat (unless God made steak for them without killing any animals).

A just God cannot allow sin to go unpunished. Justice must be done. However, humans are more important than animals. That doesn't mean that animals aren't important, too. I'm a vegetarian and I don't believe animals should be killed unless someone needs to do so for food. However, we were made in the image of God, and animals weren't. And Jesus says that we're more important than the sparrows (Matthew 10:31). Humans didn't deserve mercy for what they did. They allowed sin into the world, and that cause everything, not just humanity to fall. But God loved us and because of His love, He made a way for humans to be saved from their sin. Sin requires payment. Animal sacrifice had to be performed to make atonement for sins. Hebrews 9: 22 "Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins." Humans couldn't die for themselves because they were sinful. Their blood could never pay enough because it wasn't innocent. An animal had to die in our place.
However, these sacrifices foreshadowed a time when Christ, a human (and God's own son) who was completely without sin, would die in our place, ending the need for all animal sacrifice. Hebrews 7:27, "He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for His own sins and then for those of the people, since He did this once for all when he offered up himself."

Animal sacrifice wasn't God's original plan, but because of humans messing up, it became necessary. However, even though it was necessary, God didn't stop caring for animals. Matthew 6:26 "Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?"
He expected humans to care for them, too. Proverbs 12:10 "A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal..." Proverbs 27:23, "Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds."
Exodus 23:5 "If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden, and you would refrain from helping it, you shall surely help him with it." People aren't supposed to let animals be burdened down with too much, regardless of who the animal belongs to.
He commands us to let animals rest on the Sabbath. "Six days you shall do your work and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox an donkey may rest..." Exodus 23:12.

The Bible is clear that God cares for animals and expects us to care for them, as well.

My vegan friend and I had a discussion about this a few years ago. He thinks God never told people to sacrifice animals and that we took it upon ourselves.
I think his theory is preposterous. Scripture backs up time and again the premise that God had man kill animals for sacrifice.
Beyond that, I see no where in the bible God tells people to kill animals for food or clothing. I could be wrong, I have not done a exhaustive search...
I will say this, if it was a choice of me eating any form of any animal, or dying, then I'm outta here.

The Law says if you hurt your neighbor's animal, you pay the neighbor twice the cost of the animal. Kill it and it's four times the cost.

Balaam was being cruel to his donkey, and the donkey was given the ability to ask why.

After 13 months in Noah's boat, the animals were given an instinct by God to be afraid of people.

God knows about every sparrow. I think God's pretty sentimental about the animals.

Probably because of 2 Peter 2:12 But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish. / This verse is only about why animals can be killed, not why they are killed for the covering of our sins.

The more you learn about Christianity, the more you will realize that looking to the Old Testament for conflicts will mislead you about Christianity. You are looking to the Law of the Old Testament to understand Christianity.

We, Christians, are not under the Law, but the new Covenant..........try studying the New Testament, the Gospel of Christ to learn of the Christian Church............
