Paul....Romans 13 :8-14 "Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."
Jesus...Luke 10 :25-37 "And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
"And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain PRIEST that way: and when he saw him, HE PASSED BY ON THE OTHER SIDE. And likewise a LEVITE, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and PASSED BY ON THE OTHER SIDE on the other side. "
But a certain SAMARITAN, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And WENT TO HIM, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that SHEWED MERCY ON HIM. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and DO THOU LIKEWISE."
To show mercy, to be merciful, to show compassion" those things mean to be as the samaritan was , notice the Levite, and the other priest crossed the road and passed Him bye, The One who Loved Him was the One Who went to Him, put him on His own horse, bandaged him, got him a room at the inn, offered reimbursement later if he didnt pay the keeper enough....The samaritan, Layed down Himself seeing His brother in Need and acted He gave the man Love when He needed it, he "shewed mercy'' unto Him. He did " as He would have another do to him in that situation. Thats the fulfilling Love that the Law is intended for. Love fulfills the Law because Gods commandments outline what Love does, and does not do. The gospel teaches us to be merciful always even when someone is provoking us, even when justice says revenge, This is His commandment, Love each other as commanded, in the ways taught ."
john says this
1John 3:14-24 "We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 16Hereby PERCEIVE we THE LOVE OF GOD, because HE laid down his life for us: and WE ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
But whoso hath this world's good, and SEETH HIS BROTHE IN NEED, and shutteth up his bowels of COMPASSION from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in DEED and in TRUTH. And HEREBY WE KNOW THAT WE ARE OF THE TRUTH , and shall assure our hearts before him.
.....For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart CONDEMN US NOTt, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, BECAUSE we keep his commandments, and DO those things that are pleasing in his sight.
And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and LOVE ONE ANOTHER, as he gave us COMMANDMENT. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth IN HIM, and HE IN HIM. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the SPIRIT which he hath given us." ( John 6:63)
James says this
James 2:8-13 "If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in ONE POINT, he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. For he shall have JUDGEMENT WITHOUT MERCY, that hath SHEWED NO MERCY; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment."
We are commanded to Love as Jesus taught us, because we too WILL face the Judgement for our deeds. Wheter we walked on bye the ones with needs we could meet, looking down on them passing by the other side, turning our heads......or whether we were the good samaritan the ones who clothe the naked in His name, those who feed the hingry in Him name, those who help the stranger in his name. believing in Jesus in no way excludes you from believing the things He taught quite the contrary, it means you believe that He is the One to believe and follow His principles, His ways of life, the ways of Gods children. its puzzling when being a christian means " you arent included in Christs doctrine such as the sermon on the mount, or the things he taught the multitudes Those things are found in all of the apostles and prophets the same principles made eternal By the words Of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.....Not real popular top believe but id say when the apostles His messengers to the world say simply " Love is the fulfillment of the Law" they are referring to the Lords teachings on this in whom they Belive. and " Love is the Law" isnt actually a teaching or understanding, it is a summary phrase that comes from understanding that Gods commandments are Love for one another.....
