Its impossible on our own strength and merit. That's why we need to be born again. become a new creature. One that is literally now and forever LED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD. It is the duty of Christians to desire, and aim at, and press towards perfection in grace and holiness. And therein we must study to conform ourselves to the example of our heavenly Father, 1Pe 1:15,16. Surely more is to be expected from the followers of Christ than from others; surely more will be found in them than in others. Let us beg of God to enable us to prove ourselves his children.

We are Christians who are called to be like Christ. We are perfected through him in Spirit but as long as we are mortal the flesh acts as a thorn in our side. We are perfected in a sense if we remain in Christ because once we die our souls will be perfected into the creation of the eternal home. But here on earth all we can do is strive to live like Christ. Christ being the only perfect human to ever walk the earth.

1 Peter 2:23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

Matthew 5:48 - Be Perfect - As Greek scholar AT Robertson points out - Perfect (teleioi). The word comes from telo, end, goal, limit. Here it is the goal set before us, the absolute standard of our Heavenly Father. This is what we are to strive for. The word is used also for relative perfection as of adults compared with children.

So absolute perfection for us will not become a reality until Christ returns and then we will be made perfect with Christ. Yet teleioi is also used to refer to the maturity of an adult, which is the end or aim to which the child points. Thus it denotes those who have attained the full development of innate powers, in contrast to those who are still in the undeveloped state (children).

hummm how do we become perfect ? i Know we should all use caps and shout in every statement.. and then start a new thread of perfection with in hours of having a perfection thread closed becuase of the bitter resentment it causes..

When are you going to get the fact that only probably 2 percent of this christian website believe they can be sinnless..

Like i said your pride is down fall sorry if that causes you to throw more insults but its true and you need a reality check,, for the cause peace be with you.

Those who believe they live a sinless, without fault or defect, flawless, absolutely perfect life (exactly as Jesus lived) 100% of the time are suffering from a terminal case of self righteousness (1 John 1:8-10).

We should all strive to be adults, mature in Christ able to discern good from evil and not tossed to and fro by false doctrine.

When the Bible calls us to be "perfect" it refers that we be mature in Christ.

There is a big difference between being blameless and sinless. The only man who was walked sinlessly was Christ Jesus.

I hesitate to post in this thread because it just seems like the same hoops being jumped and no actual discourse happening.

But I guess I will hang around and pray for a bit.

Mods close threads when they get too ugly with name calling and such.

This one will be closed also if folks revert back to that behavior.

What do you want to truly accomplish with this thread?

Interesting projection.

Are we saying that when Christ washes us clean we are not actually clean?
What kind of cleansing does Jesus give you? Only partial.

As an observation, if you think someone is getting angry and you want to punch
their lights out, it is probably you who is the one with an anger problem and no one else.
Until you can calm down and disengage, only then will you be able to know.

And what does it matter is someone feels they have reached a holy state?

It is possible because the apostles talked about people being holy, and Paul said we
are temples of the Holy Spirit which should not be defiled by being yoked to an unbeliever.

The problem is what we define as being holy and what God defines it as is different.
But then how many are truly free from wealth and ambition, and walk in servant hood to the King?

I'm not bitter at all I'm heartbroken for this unrepentant generation weepi has turned the grace of our Lord not lasciviousness, with a seared concience, unable to cease from sinning and acting like a dog that returns to his own vomit again just liketthe old proverb.

2 Peter ch.2 was written to warn us about what y'all are doing, to a T. See therein for yourself, you are written about. That's not where I want any man to be. Please repent.. please..

1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2*And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

3*And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

4*For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

5*And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

6*And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

7*And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

8*(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

9*The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

10*But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

11*Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.

12*But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

13*And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;

14*Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

15*Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

16*But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.

17*These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

18*For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

19*While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

20*For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

21*For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

22*But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Not sure if anyone read or listened to the sermon on "Christian perfection" by John Wesley.

Audio sermon 35
https://archive.org/details/44SermonsOfJohnWesley-Audio/JohnWesley44Sermon01.mp3

For the visual folks:
The Wesley Center Online: Sermon 40 - Christian Perfection

He lays it out in these words:

. And this is the more needful to be done because in the verse already repeated the Apostle speaks of himself as not perfect: "Not," saith he, "as though I were already perfect." And yet immediately after, in the fifteenth verse, he speaks of himself, yea and many others, as perfect. "Let us," saith he, "as many as be perfect, be thus minded." [Phil. 3:15]

First, in what sense Christians are not; and,

Secondly, in what sense they are, perfect.

Christian perfection, therefore, does not imply (as some men seem to have imagined) an exemption either from ignorance or mistake, or infirmities or temptations. Indeed, it is only another term for holiness. They are two names for the same thing. Thus every one that is perfect is holy, and every one that is holy is, in the Scripture sense, perfect. Yet we may, lastly, observe, that neither in this respect is there any absolute perfection on earth. There is no perfection of degrees, as it is termed; none which does not admit of a continual increase. So that how much soever any man hath attained, or in how high a degree soever he is perfect, he hath still need to "grow in grace," [2 Pet. 3:18] and daily to advance in the knowledge and love of God his Saviour. [see Phil. 1:9]
Anyway, defining "perfection" is needful for fruitful conversation.

"For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age” Titus 2:11-12

"Why not say—as some slanderously claim that we say—“Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is just!” Rom. 3:8

Sounds rather judgemental to me.

If the purpose of this thread is to weep and wail about the sad state everyone else is in, I will bid you adueu.

Thought maybe you wanted to "discuss the,clear and true message of the Bible, living in God"

So disappointed.

your clean but you dont become sinless for ever from that day on.

As an observation, if you think someone is getting angry and you want to punch
their lights out, it is probably you who is the one with an anger problem and no one else.
Until you can calm down and disengage, only then will you be able to know.
No thats where you and me differ i believe in fighting people who act like cowards so does God,, our friend stephen over stepped my bounderies and as he lives by the sword then he must be ready to die by the sword. (Jesus doesnt condem those who live by the sword he just says you also must be ready to die for the sword.. Getting called a troll everyday for almost two weeks because i spoke about demons is not my down fall,, thats somebodies elses.

Yes stephen new i was angry so what does he do he calls me another troll.. i would call that cowardly..You would probably call that acceptable ?

And what does it matter is someone feels they have reached a holy state?

You can defend sinless perfection all you like i will fight anyone to the end and if that means punching someones lights out who resorts to calling innocent people trolls then i think when god says there is a time for war and a time for peace this is acceptable.

When all your attempts to rebuke in love fail and the people of rebuke want to fight then it comes to war that is when the time for war is right.

Do i want to punch stephens lights out now still no i dont,, ok so i have my faults does that mean im a troll ?

Your a troll if you constantly hound some one. which is what your doing to me.

It strikes me as an obvious observation if you believe no one can walk cleanly
before the Lord, you will attack anyone vehemently anyone who says they have achieved it.

And following the logic, only satan could be inspiring someone to teach what they would regard
as a lie and deception.

But this stand is because of a faith position not because scripture says it is impossible or that
a person is commiting sin.

My view is everyone stands before the Lord alone, so you can claim whatever you like, it is up
to you and your conscience. My experience has been the people who have claimed to have arrived
over time fall, and so realise the futility to being concrete over something that is so subtle and
profound. But we are called only condemn sinful behaviour, and to encourage people to holiness
and good works, so condemning the very claim of our goal, would be hypocracy.

And I find my state of mind, heart and soul has profound effects on all I do. So because I may not
be standing well, but that does not deny my brother beside me is not walking well, and with all my
heart I would hope so.

So a double bind is those who throw slander, hatred, anger and abuse certainly are not walking in
the Spirit, so disqualify themselves from commenting.

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."
Matt 5:6

Is this a false promise or the reality of our walk?
