Knowledge takes us a little ways...Faith brings us to His Mansion.

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[SUP][c][/SUP]
[SUP]20 [/SUP]Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? [SUP]21 [/SUP]For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. [SUP]22 [/SUP]Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, [SUP]23 [/SUP]but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, [SUP]24 [/SUP]but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. [SUP]25 [/SUP]For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
“Jacob was a cheater, Peter had a temper, David had an affair, Noah got drunk, Jonah ran from God, Paul was a murderer, Gideon was insecure, Miriam was a gossip, Martha was a worrier, Thomas was a doubter, Sara was impatient, Elijah was moody, Moses stuttered, Abraham was old,… and Lazarus was dead. God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the CALLED!”

Probably because it's hard work un-brainwashing the "qualified".

Sounds to me like He simply chose ordinary people. I'm every one of the things you listed, except not yet dead.

God tells us why just after those verses. :)

For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.
But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;
God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,
so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

Because we should be relying on God, not on ourselves.

God can't use someone who is wise in their own eyes, who thinks they know
it all, who won't listen and who won't ask for wisdom and help.

Many a person has had to be taken down a peg or two before God can use them.

I know God has taken me down a peg or two over the years, not that i was a
know it all. But I can honestly say that I really did know nothing. Even the stuff I
thought I knew was barely scratching the service. :)

Ps if I come across as a know it all, just remind me of this post!

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves (2 Cor 4:7)

you reminded me of that verse. :eek:

This often reminds me of a line out of Avatar.

Our cup was empty. Only one fills it up. God.

AND He made us see just how empty we were!

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!
