I invite you to join me in my yearly Bible Reading journey.

I will try and post which books I am listening/reading each day and invite you to join me if you can.

I find doing things with others helps me be accountable. Please I think everyone should read or listen to the Bible all the way through. Its good for our soul.

Currently listening to Matthew 25 and wondering about the parable of the gold hidden in the ground.

What does the gold/talent represent?

This is so important for everyone that follows Christ to do. READ THE BIBLE!

I read the bible through every year. It was hard, I will not lie, the first few years. But as I studied the Bible, it became more interesting, and I learned more and more about God, and how Jesus Christ is revealed in its pages, both Old and New Testaments.

I was meaning to try and encourage people to start reading the Bible, and I did not. So glad you are doing this, Ariel!

Lent always inspires me to do something the world thinks as "extreme". so I thought about trading food for reading the Bible but my husband nix that idea.

He gets mad when I don't eat. So I have found listening to the Bible while doing mindless task like cleaning, gardening or shopping has been very productive.

I always have a ton of questions whenever I read and listen to the Bible. Over the years a few have been answered, most have been with "Good question, you should ask God that when you get to heaven"

Isaiah 34:16, "Search from the book of יהוה, and read: not one of these shall be missing, not one shall be without a mate, for He has commanded my mouth. And His Spirit shall gather them."

You could look at it 2 ways= you found the talent "Gods love" and gave up your earthly desires or and Mattie Montgomery views this verse = Jesus found the talent "all of us" and agrees with God to lay down His life to gain us.

Listened through to Mark 12 last night. (Will probably listen to more today during and after my cataract eye surgery. Prayers appreciated)

I was noticing the different emphasis between Matthew and Mark and remembering reading that Matthew focused on the Jewish believers and revealing how Jesus came and fulfilled the Jewish feasts, prophecies, etc and his life displayed "an acceptable year to the Lord".

Compared to Mark who has more supernatural inclinations with more mention of demons and miracles.

I also remember reading a commentary that Mark was the older account of all four gospels.

Will now read recommended article on talents/gold.

Hi Ariel,

I am doing a chronological reading of the bible this year so I have a program now but thanks for the opportunity to follow along.

Here is a view of the talents in Matthew 25 - the gold is the grace of God towards us in Christ. This gold is available to all of us in the world and people do different things with it that our king has given to all of us to begin with.

For the grace of God has appeared bringing salvation to all men.

Here is the link for anyone interested.

Interesting we have the talents representing natural talent and gifts or opportunities or grace.

Hmmm how do you bury grace or put it in the bank?

How can you bank spiritual gifts or opportunities?

We do not receive the grace that has appeared to all men - that is like having it in the bank but not accessing it.

Romans 5:17 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

Listened to Mark 13 and wonders if those events have already happened.

I know the popular opinion runs counter. Just a random thought.

Revelation 20
But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection

What is the difference between the 1st Ressurection and the second?

Why does everyone believe that all the saints from before Jesus till now will be part of the 1st Ressurection and rule with Jesus now and not part of the 2nd with the rest of the dead?

What if only those who walked with Jesus was part of the 1st Ressurection and are now ruling in Heaven with Him?

Luke has the account about Baby Jesus and John coming in the spirit of Elijah.

I always found that interesting.

Also I wonder why he was named John?

Does anyone have insight into the wine skin parable?

I heard theories that it relates to the old and new covenant but we have the same old bodies so I don't know?

Typing this in pre ops room with IV in one hand and eye shield over other. Lol.

Please excuse any typos.

Lovely article thanks so much for sharing.

" the talents of the parables are to us golden moments of opportunity"

If the above is true, what does the bank represent?
The story is of course a parable. :)

I think that the master telling him he should have at least, put the talents in the bank to receive some interest is better than nothing.

So this wicked servant is just that. The fact that he didn't even think to make interest on the money reveals his wicked heart. He did nothing at all with the money except bury it.

He even dared to call his master the wicked one. Here's what Spurgeon has to say.

“If we cannot trade directly and personally on our Lord’s account, if we have not the skill nor the tact to manage a society or an enterprise for him, we may at least contribute to what others are doing, and join our capital to theirs, so that, by some means, our Master may have the interest to which he is entitled.”Spurgeon

Some think that readiness for Jesus’ return is a very spiritual and abstract thing. It really isn’t – it is a matter of being about our business for the Lord. In light of this parable, we must ask ourselves: What have we done with our knowledge? Our time? Our money? Our abilities? The sins of omission [what we don’t do] may ultimately be more dangerous than the sins of commission [what we do]. David Guzik

I think the old testament saints and those who died up until the time of Jesus's death, rose with Him which would include John the Baptist.

I believe the 1st resurrection in Revelation will be all
the rest of the saints, both those who have lived since Jesus's death and those who remain alive at that time - these will be raised to reign with Christ along with those who were raised with Christ.

So the 2nd resurrection spoken of in Revelation will be the goats, the unbelievers. It's called the Great White Throne judgment.
