People who have an academic Christianity and think they are saved by works and not faith would think they are saved.
***** if the foolish virgins were not saved it us because they neglected their oil which they had when they started their journey---- the wise virgins took extra oil---- they were not neglectful...

I don't read the Message translation and am not educated enough whether to know if it is a good translation or not. I checked Bible gateway, and the KJV, NKJV, NIV all read that the five foolish ones had NO oil, while the five wise had oil.

How many Christians today are careless and not watchful----- if you are bothered by this parable--- draw closer to Christ and be prepared---- is it possible to be an unfaithful servant (Matthew 24:42-51)---- don't let this happen...

**** verse 8 in the NIV says that the foolish virgins lamps were going out---- implication is the oil ran low----they did not take extra like the wise...

All of the Virgins were asleep at the beginning, when they heard the shout they all woke up. When the five foolish ones tried to enter the wedding feast the Bridegroom told them that he never knew them. I think they represent people who hear the Gospel accept it and then fall away. They have enough light to understand it but for some reason never follow through. The parable of the sower portrays this. The seed is sown but only the seed that lands on good soil produces grain. Jesus said
that those who endure ton the end will be saved.

Scripture says that ALL the Virgins had oil in their lamps....what happened was they ran out of oil and 5 did not have any extra to REfill their lamps.
The Oil is the Holy Spirit and this parable shows that we can indeed run out of it....how so ? because we receive it 'in measure' and not all in one go. It certainly is not 'either all or nothing...we could not handle it. Receiving the Holy Spirit is like a 'blood transfusion....drop by drop.

Eph 1v13,14, shows we are only started off with a 'deposit/earnest/promise...a small amount which is used and replenished 'as we grow in it Eph 4. We can't ever sit back (slumber) and hope to still have the same amount we started with, as did the 5 foolish virgins.

I do not know, but to me, the explanation that the oil is the Holy Spirit does not make sense.

10 virgins had the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit ran out, 5 virgins took extra Holy Spirit with themselves, the rest wanted to lend some, the wise 5 said that there is not enough of the Holy Spirit for all of them etc...?

It sounds so unbiblical that I cant accept this explanation.

Matt.25:1-13 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. [SUP]2 [/SUP]And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
[SUP]4 [/SUP]But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. ...........King James................................. ...............10 were saved at first had there lamps burning walking with Jesus and the Holy Spirit.... then 5 ran out of oil...... but it was to late to be refilled with oil....... so they did not go to be with the bridegroom JESUS-------they were not ready.....

Friend, we are just 'discussing scripture - not teaching it. I am not asking anyone to accept my view.
It seems to me the 'wise virgins were talking of the oil they had with them which would be a 'limited amount and not enough to share with others who would have to get their own supply v9. This also works for the Holy Spirit whom God gives to people individually for their benefit - we are not in charge of it to hand out to others....that is GOD's business.

The first five had the Holy Spirit too, when they lamps were burnings in the beginning? Then the Holy Spirit "ran out" so they had to lend it from others? And could not come to the kingdom of God because of it?

Biblically, there is only one thing that makes us enter to the kingdom of God or not - faith.

IF I put a faith to the story, it makes more sense...

The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord.

Proverbs 20:27 (NASB)
[SUP]27 [/SUP] The spirit of man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the innermost parts of his being.

All Christians are sealed with the Holy Spirit.

Now ask yourself if all Christians act like it?

Now read the parable again.

Now remember that Jesus will say to some that He never knew them.

Now consider it a warning.

The oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. The five virgins who had no oil were not saved, they had not the Holy Spirit. The virgins who had oil in their lamps were saved, they had the Holy Spirit. Foolish people are unbelievers, wise people are believers. This is a pretty standard interpretation of the parable.
No,they did have oil. They also had light, and lamps. Plus they were virgins, indicating undefiled,or pure

In no way can they not be saved.

Pretty much so.

The examples are the manna that had to come daily. Fresh filling. And the dead sea as being the opposite. It never gives out and therefore is toxic.

The HS in the NT is received by laying on of hands(transferrable),hence "give us some of yours".

If it was a ""saved vs unsaved" dynamic, then a person could transfer some of their own salvation, and salvation could "run out"

You can't run short of the Holy Spirit. He is inexhaustible.
Sampson. Ran out

David said take not thy Holy Spirit from me.

The man in acts wanted to buy it. Not salvation, but power.

Plus salvation is never received by laying on of hands

Yes, some will not be prepared because they are not saved, and leave getting saved until it is too late.
No,a person can get saved seconds before they die.
