Luke 21(NKJV)
1 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God,[a] but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”

=====================================

A couple of years ago I was listening to a sermon in church when the pastor read a bible verse. I looked it up, as I often do, and while turning through the pages I noticed Jesus’ parable of the widow’s mites. My mind began to wander, as I often do, as I considered the poor widow putting her little coins in the coffer. What a beautiful lesson for us! The fact that she had two mites makes it all the more wonderful. I mean, two mites is worth hardly more than one mite. Like having two pennies versus only a single penny. But it is significant inasmuch as having two mites presented her with the choice of putting either one or both of her coins in the collection box. It nearly brings tears to my eyes to imagine her putting both coins in, rather than holding one back like most of us would.

As I sat there in church (entirely missing out on the sermon at this point. lol) I thought about Ann, an elderly woman in the choir. She trembles with the beginnings of Parkinson’s Disease, and sings in a squeaky, wavering little mouse voice. She barely contributes to the choirs’ resounding chords and harmonies of worship music. But she’s up there every Sunday with her squeaky little mouse voice, singing away. She sings her two widow’s mites of music to worship the Lord. And I’ll bet the Lord loves to hear her voice just as much as he appreciated that poor widow putting her last two copper coins in the collection box.

Ann is an elderly lady in my church--from the first post above. Now that I think about it, Ann is a widow too. I knew her husband, who passed away several years ago. Ann is a sweet lady. I look forward to seeing her each Sunday morning. :)

Maybe a fumigation is in order - mites in a building - not good.

:p

The widow has faith but no husband. She is giving up her struggle. She is putting herself fully into the Hands of God.

I sit by a ninety-seven year-old tenor in my choir. You can hardly hear him, but then, he sees poorly and hears poorly, so much of the time he doesn't even know where we are in the song. When I see that he is lost, I try to get him on track, during choir rehearsal, though you can't do that when you are performing on Sunday morning. He still has a good singing voice and reads music well.

I have always thought of singing as a form of prayer to music.
No one is too young or old to sing to God and while prayer doesn't need a
posh voice with perfect diction, singing doesn't need a pitch perfect melodic voice. :)
